So on my way to work today

I let out the clutch slowly, hit the gas...and I'm literally thrown back in my seat, except its not so much as I'm thrown back in my seat, I'm thrown back WITH my seat. I freaked out drove straight to the dealership, let me tell you driving with a broken seat/seat bracket in the rain is NOT fun at all. I get there, they look at it and bam, yeah I managed to break the seat bracket and they are overnighting the part. While they were explaining to me what I had done they asked if I had been in an accident. And I thought that was kind of odd because... if I were in an accident why would I fix the car to almost new status and NOT repalce the seat bracket? The next thing they tell me was that there have been no reported seat brackets breaking at all. So I'm wondering if anyone else here has heard of this happening?

:feedback:

Damn. Glad you're ok. I haven't heard of anyone before having this issue.

Silver Ecstasy 04-12-2011 12:35 PM

Lose some weight, fat boy.

No but honestly, how the hell did this happen? Let me rephrase, what part on the seat actually broke?

I know there's a thread about people complaining about a wobbly seat.

jax ms3gt 04-12-2011 12:37 PM

My seat is already all the way back so I wouldn't notice something like this until I hit the brakes..lol
never heard of anyone else doing this..

Pope 04-12-2011 12:39 PM

if the car isnt brand new you might want to look at the title or get it looked at, the car could have been in an accident prior to you buying it and it got restored....

How tall are you man? I'm 6'1 and can't stand having the seat that far back.

I have lost weight! About 60 or so lbs, seriously improved the power to weight ratio! :D. In all seriousness though, what I noticed was that the seat always kind of creaked a little bit. According to the dealership the bracket itself was broken. I'm assuming towards the left front (if you're sitting on it). VERY scary to drive when you accelerate and you get pushed back and your feet leave the pedals.

Did u buy ur car used? I know of one girl who weighs like 400lbs that sold her ms3 cuz she said she out grew it.

I bought mine brand new off the lot last March. It had 250 miles on it from it being driven from the NY/NJ area down to my dealership. Apart from that, nothing was wrong with it.

For sure man, take pictures of the broken bracket if you could! Glad nothing else happened (ie. accident, injury).

Illmatic MS3 04-12-2011 04:20 PM

damn braaaah. weigh much?

ScarMS3 04-12-2011 04:24 PM

I'm like 5 10 and have the seat all the way back...if I don't I find i release the clutch poorly and it jumps more...nazi maybe you have short legs and a long torso?

wolly6973 04-12-2011 05:27 PM

There is a TSB on that I believe...

This is caused by the welding of the slide adjuster being broken and/or the push nut is loose due to repeated usage. To improve the durability, the material of the slide adjuster has been changed."

280lbs, but I did punish the seat all last year when I was 330ish.

julioroman 04-13-2011 02:55 PM

so! Pics or it didn't happen eh? Here you go: http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6292153_n.jpg

You can see where the bracket just snapped off.

Silver Ecstasy 04-13-2011 09:03 PM

Fuck man! Look at that! Thanks for posting sir, again glad nothing serious happened. What'd the dealer say after they seen it?

1) they called their "help" line (I never knew dealerships had that...) and I'm the first person to do this, so GO me!

2) I'm at 20K miles on my 2010, and I should probably do my best to NOT break the seat bracket anymore

3) Have you had any accidents, cause no one here has seen this before (I looked at the guy like...seriously?! I'd get into an accident, fix it completely off of the books, fix EVERYTHING but the seat bracket?!)

4) Go to enterprise and we'll get you a rental.

Silver Ecstasy 04-13-2011 09:29 PM

Well, if this is a serious issue, they'll put out a recall. That is fucked up!

speed14 04-15-2011 10:01 AM

Woah that's crazy. My seat squeaked loudly for like 10,000+ miles and it drove me crazy, but has seemed to go away now. Never had the bracket break on me though haha. Good work

rodrigo 04-15-2011 10:07 AM

Mine broke a couple months ago and I got it repaired under warranty.. And yeah driving with a busted seat sucked.. Every time I hit the gas I was practically laying in my back seat.

Mine was squeeking before it broke.. Like it was partially broke and letting the seat move a slight bit.. What sucks is my new one is starting to squeek so I'm a little afraid it's gonna break too..

1) Bullshit. tell em to ask Town North Mazda in Richardson.. i got mine replaced there a couple months ago.

2) I was at about 11k Miles

3) He needs to put the pipe down

4) They tried to stiff me on a loaner saying they don't do that any more, but when I read the warranty paperwork it said for any repairs being done because the car is unsafe to drive they will give you a loaner, so I ended up getting one.

Well at least yours broke a different way than mine.. Mine a weld on the bracket that holds the rail to the car snapped so maybe they are right about that being the 1st one to break that way..

rigor 04-15-2011 02:10 PM

quit floping into the car pushing into the back of the seat when you get in lol!!

i do the same thing

GTISPEED3 04-15-2011 05:16 PM

Mine wobbles a little. GenWon though.

Wildfire 04-16-2011 10:29 PM

That sucks! *runs out and looks at my seat*

Silver Ecstasy 04-17-2011 04:08 AM

I wonder when the TSB is coming out..

ztnedman1 05-01-2011 11:55 AM

Damn! Seat squeek drives me nuts! I kind of hope mine breaks to just to have it replaced.

fishin53 05-01-2011 12:11 PM

same thing happened to me last summer, it took a couple of days for the new part to come in, so i just rigged some rope from it falling backwards, and a piece of wood to keep it from being too far forward. real nator shit going on.

Creatve 10-23-2011 01:28 AM

Oh man mine just broke at the same spot!:frown: Im going to call the dealer first thing Monday. Guess my car is out of commission, not even going to drive it like that

2k4_8 10-23-2011 09:52 AM

I would guess it's related to how they all seem a little 'loose'. This is definately a safety hazard though, hope they look closely at it!

MS3G35 10-25-2011 01:22 PM

Wow that sucks. Also sucks a lot of you seem to be having issues. Mine is nice and tight(thats what she says :-D ).
