Some Assorted MS3 Questions

Hey whats going on guys, ive been on this forum for afew weeks now just browsing around and reading various threads because im looking to purchase a MS3 within the next few months. In particular im looking to get a new off the lot 2011 preferably with the Tech Package and I had some various questions for you guys that may know better then me.

1) What is the potential of these cars? As far as performance mods go im looking to do HPFP / Upgraded TMIC / Forge Diverter Valve / TIP + SRI / Complete 3" Catless Turboback from downpipe to tip and some form of tuning (Cobb Stage 2?)

Will these mods be able to get me into the low low 13s, maybe even high 12s?

2) Does the Cobb Tuning solution remove the 1st and 2nd gear limiters so you can actually hit full boost and power in the lower gears? Ide imagine this makes a pretty substantial difference??? Also does this remove any speed limiter restrictions and upper RPM restrictions? Ive noticed people saying that with the tune the car pulls to redline now whereas before it died at 6k???

3) Are these vehicles reliable or do they suffer from weak rods like the first gens had where the motors were ticking time bombs when you started modding them?

4) Is the tech package really worth it? Also If i was going to put a system / upgraded stereo in it, its probobly alot harder to mess with the bose versus the regular sound system correct? Also can I remove the stock radio without killing off any other vehicle functions or are other functions interconnected with the stock radio as well?

5) What is the best TIP + SRI? The Cobb Package?? Ive known Cobb for awile now just from messing with subarus and they seem to be a top notch company so im sure that their product quality is exceptional and you really cant go wrong?

6) Hows the vehicle handle? As far as handling Ide be going with H&R Springs, a Front Strut Tower Bar and then front and rear swaybars and probobly call it a day

If i buy this vehicle its going to be my ONLY vehicle and Daily Driver... Im looking to drive it from zero miles to 100K + miles and own it atleast the full 5 year loan period or longer... So buying this i want something reliable thats going to last me for that amount of time... im not taking this purchase lightly and I dont change vehicles often so this is a serious matter to me

If i buy the speed I will surely donate to the site im just looking for some quick answers to the above questions if anyone can help me out... Thanks guys!

IMO 1)300ish give or take, 1/4 mile times are all about the driver mod. Dont forget a RMM
2)Not sure, but the AP is as good as it gets. I'll be picking one up very soon so i'll know more then.
3)Dont go wot below 3k rpms and should be fine. Or just go BT. Rods are fine.
Varies with driving style and tune.
4)I haz tech package and I love it. Others don't care for it so much. I use bluetooth all the the time and love the keyless entry and push button start. To each his own.
5)Corksport is the best for the money. But comes down to personal opinion. I haz corksport and I love it.
6)Handling is superb. Best handling car I have had out of the box. However it can be made 10x better for not much money. RSB yields great result

7) SEARCH. Use the google search app. at the top of the page. It works really well and you can find lots of info on just about everything you can think of.

7) 100k worried about sky falling? Don't mod.

probably mid/low 13s... not 100% sure though.

I have no boost restrictions. People say the car "pulls to redline" because the car is making more power after a tune and it holds boost. Redline is still out of peak power, even with a tune.

3) Are these vehicles reliable or do they suffer from weak rods like the first gens had where the motors were ticking time bombs when you started modding them?

they say they have forged rods, but skinny rods still break. Most people live by the no WOT until 3000rpm rule because the 2.3 + Ko4 makes stupid torque down low.

I have the tech package and I love it. I like the keyless entry, the navigation and blutooth

5) What is the best TIP + SRI? The Cobb Package?? Ive known Cobb for awile now just from messing with subarus and they seem to be a top notch company so im sure that their product quality is exceptional and you really cant go wrong?

Cobb is always a good choice. I have the corksport on mine.

6) Hows the vehicle handle? As far as handling Ide be going with H&R Springs, a Front Strut Tower Bar and then front and rear swaybars and probobly call it a day

handles good! I came from an s2000 and it is nowhere near that, but it is impressive.

My speed is my DD and I plan on similar mods to you. Like any car, if you beat the shit out of it, it wont last.

If i buy the speed I will surely donate to the site im just looking for some quick answers to the above questions if anyone can help me out... Thanks guys!

donate.

why the fuck is this slowhatch faggit groaning all the posts

Joe92t 05-16-2011 10:16 PM

Probobly because the posts he groans noone understands what the fuck they are saying... half of this threads posts are all abbreviations that dont mean anything to normal people and are totally useless and unhelpful.

Being 24 years old myself I can get the "humor" of this site, but if a 50 year old dude came in here he would probobly have a heart attack at how everyone speaks to each other

you have no idea how old some of us are. i ain't 50, but i ain't 24, and i'll tell you what sonny, the older you get, the more you act like most of us on here. no patience for laziness or bullshit. most of the questions you ask can be answered by reading what is already on here. just search and read. that is why lenny is such a penis. every week there are a bunch of guys asking questions similar to what you asked.

that is the joy of this forum: there is no 'nice' policy, so shit actually gets worked out. there are some of the most knowledgeable guys on here pushing what is possible with these cars. most of the other sites are more cosmetic focused, i.e lowering, sound systems, tints, wheels.. etc. we have that here, but most of the guys here just want to make their cars perform well and don't care too much about being the awesomest low rider around. if you can get past the roughness, this is a great group of people doing amazing shit with their cars..

2011speed 05-17-2011 12:48 AM

I got another question. Can you do intake, accessport with stage 1 map n test pipe without having to replace fuel pump?

rodrigo 05-17-2011 02:35 AM

hahahaha u guys and your groans and whining....

groan away slowhatch....

I'm pretty sure Forzda fits in the 50 + category, and he definitely holds nothing back.

Oh, and................... probably** :D

Ckmazdaspeed3 05-17-2011 06:43 AM

"I've been on this forum browsing and reading various threads for a few week..."

Then why are you asking all the questions that you should've read the answers to like a million times? I can't believe anyone actually took the time to answer your retarded questions.

Pu Manchu 05-17-2011 12:57 PM

I had a lot of these same questions 2 weeks ago... but then I hit the search button, and now I know most of the answers.

My mom only gives me allowance once a month, and I already spent May's allowance on weed and cheetos.

Ole foodstamps could afford it, and he had a similar setup with his grandma. No more excuses.

Buy my 2010. It ran 12.65 @109mph before on stock turbo. All of the go fast parts are now off the car (except for the clutch/flywheel), but I can steer you in the correct direction to hit 12's and beyond.

A mid 12 second car will rape most other little cars roaming around on the streets.

And if you kept it for another month you would have 11s...

Was this 12 second pass done with just boltons and tuning? Stock longblock / turbo?

What was your mods and why'd you take everything off

1.) Yes

2.) Fully bolted; spite.

Joe92t 05-17-2011 03:03 PM

See thats all I wanted to know, that's all I want out of the car is high 12s and that's fine for me if its possible just being boltons.. Ive got alot of friends that own LS2 GTOs and the new 2011 5.0 Mustangs, if I can hang with them that's fine with me

You'll be able to run high 12's fully bolted with driver mod, but I don't really think you'll be able to hang with LS2 GTOs and 2011 5.0 Mustangs - those cars are making 400+ crank whereas you're going to make maybe 330-340 crank fully bolted.

To really hang with those guys you're going to need to get a bigger turbo. You might not be too embarrassed doing sushi roll racing against them though.

FWIW there are several guys making ~400 whp on the stock block. That's about 440-460 crank with the drivetrain losses of FWD (10-12%).

wankular 05-17-2011 03:32 PM

6. You won't need a front strut bar.
