Some more speculation Someone posted this on r/mazda. Taking it with a grain of salt but god I hope it's true. Mazda 3 MPS to have turbo 2.5-litre, AWD | carsguide.com.au tl;dr
|
I wouldn't be so quick to rule out AWD. A general amount of the competition is AWD, the Dart SRT is supposed to be getting AWD, and really only leaving the Focus ST and I guess the GTI the only FWD competition. So why not appeal to more with AWD? Also it will be a "Global Car" Europe/Canada AWD would possibly help sales, since it is more needed their. Not to mention an older article from Corksport, they did a good looking around on the new 3 and speculated that there is plenty of room for AWD, with the way its setup. The only reasons to possibly rule it out are extra cost for it, and lower fuel economy ( tho which Mazda is big on) That's my 2 cents lol. Sent from my Evil Nexus 5 |

The new WRX is what 2.0 10:5.1 compression and turbo.. I hope the next speed 3 gets a bump in compression as well |
Same platform as AWD cx5, so, plausible... Will believe when it comes out |
Every 3 months there's another article about the future of the speeds showing the newest generation with a hood scoop and a blurry background. No breath held. Make me a rwd version and we'll talk. |

No whammies! |
Now if it stays under 30k is the question... |

Maybe I should have titled this better... |
With so many cars going hybrid, I wouldn't be surprised if the 2016 MS3 was paired with some electric motors |

I heard that the 2016 MS3 is going to have a twin turbo tri-rotary setup with RWD. It'll make 197 RWHP with just an intake and it'll piss unicorn blood out its exhaust. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
If this happens and they keep it under $30k, I may have a very difficult time not trading in my pu. |
Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it was close to 30 if the parts weren't made of glass. The WRX in the past has had a transmission made of glass and a weak clutch. We take both of those things for granted in our FWD car. |
and has hood scoop so it's not FMIC..... fail |
Skyactiv-g+boost=/=a good time. |
I'm all for RWD not AWD myself, lighter weight, still can launch, cheaper cost. As for the article, probably just someone making the info, but let's HOPE! |

Mazda is doing so well that I now have no doubt there will be a new speed. Not sure if it will be a 3, 6, or both, but a new speed 2 woukd be hilarious, and if they do that, a speed MX-5 with the same engine (1.6t?) goes without saying and would be awesome. A new speed 3 will not be rwd. Huge waste of money. I read something recently about a Mazda executive saying that the replacement for the CX-9 will likely downsize the current V6 to a turbo 4 - and that's the only reason to believe that a 2.5l turbo is a possibility in the 3 or 6. Otherwise it won't happen, because there's no reason for a 2.5 when a 2.0 with a twin-scroll turbo can make more than enough power for a 3,100-3,400lb car with little lag. They will go for light weight and mpg before power. It had BETTER have a real lsd and twin-scroll. Fucking Hyundai uses twin-scroll turbos. If not, I'll buy a Ford. |
Not sure if I want a new speed because I'm excited to see one, or if I specifically don't want one because I can't afford a new car and I'm selfish |
|
I hope it's true. I will be first in line to trade in. |
Our luck they'll bring back the chicken pox |
Let's hope it can take an ecotec swap. |
Well if Ford brings the RS to the USA like motor trend is saying, that right there is a HUGE competitor. Awd 300+HP mmmm |

Last rumor for the RS said it would remain fwd with the 350 hp Ecoboost from the mustang. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
When has Rs ever been awd? |

I dont know where you're going with this, I posted a source for the rumor I posted [in a speculation thread btw] dated in April and then you follow up with another one from February trying to correct a rumor? Da fuk does it matter. |

Ah didn't check the date on that one. I'll have to look for the recent article where I saw it. They were talking about the RS being put on hold, then being taken off hold, but will be released later and the fwd. I'll have to look around more when I get the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The previous Focus RS was FWD, the current ST is FWD, I would imagine the new RS will also be FWD. This fits perfectly into the european definition of a hot hatch and that's where the RS is sold. Regarding the MS3, I think it depends where mazda wants to compete. Subaru has no more hatch (WRX or STI) and EVO X will be gone, so going AWD would place in a nice spot with only the new golf R as competition. But the R is close to 40k so the MS3 would have to be much more polished and refined. If MS3 stays FWD, then it keeps a price point around 30K and returns as the king of the hill of hot hatches once again and towers over the Focus ST, Civi Si, Golf GTI, etc. I honestly don't mind the FWD at all, my gen2 is more fun stock than my stage2 wrx. |
A 2.3 with twin scroll (next gen Mustang engine, one step up from the base V6) will have an awesome torque curve and that would make one badass RS. However, I have a boner for Mazdas, and I think my imaginary MS3 compares very favorably to my imaginary RS. It's a good time to be a car enthusiast. |

It really is. Imagine how it'll be in 10+ years when you'll be able to grab a 5.0 mustang, or a C6 corvette, or a gen pu for cheap before they start to appreciate. If I'm married my wife won't be happy with the number of cars I bring home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Focus RS got me intersted as well but then I realized that a fully boltes MS3 (K04) is probably very close to what a RS would be. So, I plan to keep my MS3 for a while and mod as appropriate ;-). |
