I think the general forum consensus is:

RMM
internals
intake
AP (edit: custom tune)...
TP
TIP/TIH

IMO, the ms3 really benefits from a shift plate as well.

Cobb's recommended upgrade path here:

just look around...those lists are everywhere. find a post by @Raider and check the links in his sig, they're full of useful information. You already wasted money on a bov that would have been much better spent toward fp internals...search around so that doesn't happen again.

Mod list engine wise should be:

Rear motor mount
Intake
Fuel Pump
1 step colder plugs
AP + Custom Tune
Race Pipe
Intercooler
Big Turbo
Re-tune
Downpipe
Bigger Intake
Re-tune
Manifold
Re-tune
... by this time you know what you're doing ... and the suspension should be setup as well.
JS + MS3, rfinkle2, spedo3 and 2 others like this.

Full Race kit is hands down the best kit for our platform. Very top notch. You can get it with Borg Warners new EFR turbo. It'll be a complete bolt on kit. I'd pick that up and get a nice tune. Then your done. The kits aren't quite available yet.

^^ what he said. this is the "best bang for the buck" upgrade path.

But I prefer the slight shifting clunkiness to all the vibration (have driven both, and have owned a car in the past with solid mounts) so I would move RMM down in the list. But Lex is spot on for the other stuff. For Intake I would also do the Turbo Inlet Pipe at that time too.

Mods (in order of significance): Cobb AccessPort, Autotech CDFP upgrade (thanks Captain KR for your assisstance), Cobb SF SRI Intake, Ultimate Racing cat and resonator-less test pipe, Cobb Turbo Inlet Hose, Cobb Knob, Cobb 300g shifter weight

Tune: My own (based on the v210 and v231 Cobb OTS maps but ramped way up)

Street creds:
- Fastest known K04/93 MS3/driver with only an AP, CDFP upgrade, intake, and tune | 13.37@106.83mph on stock Dunlops (2.04 sec 60' time, full curb weight, 75*F ambient temp)
- Has gone an indicated 146mph on three occasions now.

Yes I will help you tune your K04/pump gas car; I have much less experience than the major players but I also charge you $0 and can turn you around quickly. 4 satisfied customers and counting...

Downpipe

Manifold

I found a good compromise. The CS rear motor mount inserts don't add much vibration if at all (and I am picky) and they stopped the IC from hitting the fire wall.

I like the idea of a harmonious kit as well, but the completion time of this kit kinda sucks for us that are already fully bolted.

Thanks Lex, I will have to check that out.

I would think that, using your list, somewhere around racepipe is when you would hit that magic 300whp mark would you agree?

Correct - with a good tune you're around that mark and 330-350 ft lbs at the wheels.

The IC is there for consistency on hot days. If you add no more hardware and run 2 gallons of E85 per tank and tune for it you're around 330-340whp with close to 400 ft lbs at the wheels.

I would think 300 from just racepipe and intake plus tune would be a bit of a stretch

@ the time, I was tuning Kritz's car on pure 93 pump gas and he only had an intake, internals and race pipe:

(he since started e85 tuning with Phate, but linked to are his pump #'s ... 335 wtq/285hp)

Edit: green line = ots, and blue and red are post tune, same modifications.

Now 298 I can believe... But never 300.

Just kidding man.

I'm not arguing or doubting anyway. I just always thought u needed to be more bolted to see 300 at the wheels.

I like that DP is after re-tune on BT. I've been thinking about BT with stock DP because of California emissions (visual inspection). I know it bolts up, but was concerned about flow.

Wow, ok this is my new shopping list.

There are many factors to consider here but the rule of thumb is that it takes just a few flow modifications to start really being choked off flow wise by the stock turbo. Once this limit is reached you can only gain power through timing and the two big things there are fuel quality/E85 and charge air cooling.

Once a bigger turbo is in play, then it makes more $$ sense to open up the airways and exhaust.

Sigh...I keep going this way and that on what I should do. But viewing Lex's recommended list makes me think I should head into BT now...TIP, race pipe, intercooler, and Big Turbo seems attainable for less than $5k leaving spare for my tune?

Just not sure if I wanna go down the BT path just yet. I mean if 300+ whp is attainable without a BT then I might want to sideline that for a bit. But I want her to sound nice too (dp,cbe?).

300whp is definitely attainable without BT and the sounds depends on what you like. A BT won't really affect the sound

Heh kk. To get a decently powerful exhaust note I need cbe right? If I do racepipe and cbe should I just go ahead and do dp too? If I have ANY thoughts of going BT in the future should I just go ahead with fmic vs. top? Thanks for all this great advice. Once I settle on parts and installed I will be making an appt.

Dp and tp will make the stock cbe sound pretty decent. And free up some good power. I'd do that first and see if you're happy before you drop the Monty on a CBE.

As for top verses front mount I think generally front mount is preferred for BT. although I believe there are a few people running with uprated top mount too... Have a search you should will find more details

The DP and racepipe themselves make the exhaust quite a bit louder - you feel it a lot more in the floor of the car. Is there anyone local to you that can give you a ride in a car with these mods or a CBE? - hard to describe this over the web.

The FMIC is definitely a good idea even with the K04. If you're planning on going BT, I would more strongly consider the DP versus just a racepipe.

The FMIC is definitely a good idea even with the K04. If you're planning on going BT, I would more strongly consider the DP versus just a racepipe.
Aye. There are several MS3ers in the area. I just have to stop being such an introvert and get out and meet up with these guys

I really really love the cpe fmic so I will most likely land on it.

Lex, I'm going to thank you for saving me the money on a downpipe. I ordered a racepipe from a guy on here and I'm soon getting a new TMIC too, then the necessary additions to run stage 2. I almost went full DP anyway but I can't afford the money and down time IF something happens during or after the install...but the RP should put me right where I want to be.

Taking the same route as you, thanks to Lex's advice on mod list.

Here is another example of a guy without a laundry list of mods making good power.

(If you are on the Perm list, I'm sure any of the guys on their team could get you similar numbers)
