speeds in hawaii

anyone on here currently stationed or live in hawaii(oahu)?

ShadowHunter117 11-15-2014 08:13 PM

I am military who was stationed in Hawaii for 6 years and just moved to Germany a few months ago. I can probably answer most questions you have. There is also a fairly active MazdaSpeed group there made up of military and local guys.

Ah yeah, recon! I hadn't messed much with suspension stuff before I left there, but I was able to pass inspection without recon with my Corksport lowering springs on. Might be able to see if any of the local MazdaSpeed guys have a set of stock suspension you could borrow to pass inspection, then put your set up on after. There are also places you can go where you pay a little extra for them to just pass the inspection. Some guys have also gone through and done the recon so they might be able to give you more info on that.

when i was there before i didn't pass recon because i couldn't show the inspector 2 inches of travel. WTF. so he failed me, and i found a guy that took 30 dollars and six pack for a safety inspection. recon is super gay. i weight 137 pounds. i barely got the rear to drop. my skinny ass not making the front bounce. haha.

Yeah, recon sucks. Well have fun out there again, and look up Elite Mazda Performance on Facebook if you want a group of Speed3 guys out there to hang out with. They have occasional meets/cruises and a few usually always meet up and hang out on the Fri/Sat night car cruises that happen at a few places around the island. If you request to join the page, tell them Charles sent you.

Hawaii? Man ganna be a long way from home ;) GL with everything bro! I can't wait to see the MOTHER OF ALL FUCKING TURBO BUILDS come together on a NATOR brothers car!!!
@maisonvi; I want to see comparable numbers ;) I'm going for highest stock block HP in MI.

JPele21 11-16-2014 12:38 AM

I'm out at Hickam....plenty of Speeds here on Oahu. Mostly young guys without much money to mod or like me with all the mods sitting on a shelf and waiting for my wife to get back from her TDYs to give me some time to get some of this stuff on my car.

Where you headed....Schofield? Few MS3s floating around up there. One nice CWP for sure that is modded quite well but I don't think he has a BNR.

Most don't seem to frequent the forums too much though.

Yea they're sending me back. The build should be interesting. I probably won't drive my speed a lot while I'm there being roads stuck, and traffic is ridiculous.

Hey! Sounds like the Dirty D over here. At least we have interstates and really no traffic enforcement....because murder and gang bangin' it more important to them LOL

Haha I only float around schofield when I've got work. And your statement about not having money to mod is pretty spot on! Waiting on an ipr bov to come in the mail and also have a electric e cutout I wanna install, but i'm too poor to afford the welding/wiring fee.

@Jon
I've heard Waipahu is a pretty good place to go get a no questions asked safety, granted your car isn't falling apart, you should be alright.

I think a majority roll around with EMP (elite mazda performance), I went with a all turbo club that has evo's, sti's, srt4, etc Once one member upgrades everyone else starts doing it too.

That's interesting. When I was there all the evo, srt4, subarus kept to themselves. Should be fun

SlickRide2013 12-06-2014 12:32 AM

Gents, currently on Oahu and things have changed a lot since you were last here! To do any sort of inspection now, a photo must be taken of certain areas of the vehicle and those photos are automagically sent to a database. The database allows HPD and other shops to see if you have either passed or failed. Also, the car scene is still strong across the board. However, finding prime time to lay into the throttle has become a challenge since HPD is pretty much everywhere you can think of at any given time. Any given Saturday night at the meets it honestly looks like a ford dealership with all the Mustangs that roll through. No offense to anyone on their style or choice of vehicle, it's just what it honestly seems like when you go anywhere now.

JPele21 12-06-2014 01:55 PM

hahaha yes, lots of mustangs on this island.

If it isn't HPD, its traffic slowing you down to a near crawl. To be honest though if you can get out on the east side of the island and run 83 from Kaneohe to the north shore, its a good bit of turns and open road. Problem is that at some point you are bound to get behind a local just cruisin along at 10 under the speed limit.

This island is crowded though.

Very valid points. Traffic is terrible with construction everywhere you go. I'm kicking myself in the ass for not making the trip to North Shore from Kailua after my BNR install.

How easy is it to get meth there. Really don't want to bring my speed. But I'm putting to much money into it. Plus the headache of recon.

JPele21 12-15-2014 07:27 PM

Meth is easy in Oahu...only sold at one shop though , but it does come in barrels. Ron's on the outskirt of Honolulu. Good little shop. Ron's Performance - Home

I think they are 5 Gallon barrels...I could be wrong...I don't know price because I haven't made METH leap yet...just happened to see it.

BTW you are probably going to have a harder time getting high octane gas. All the mil bases have 92 and same downtown. There is one gas station on King St. that sells 100 (I'm pretty sure its a 76 station) but other than that I have not seen 93. I think Ron's sells 100 too.

That's fine. I'll retune when I get there.

Im not sure what the last time you got meth from them was, but it must have been at least 5 months, cause thats how long theyve been sold out. I call and stop by constantly. They have issues with their supplier. I hate having to run denatured alcohol, but thats what its come down to lately. It sucks relying on 1 shop for meth. They can price it whatever they want. In this case 17 f*ckin dollars a gallon.

SlickRide2013 12-29-2014 10:58 PM

Has anyone looked into ordering some meth off of eBay? I glanced at Google this evening and noticed 5 gallon buckets for $79.04. Take a look at the link, maybe get everyone together and order enough to possibly talk the price down a bit and not have to depend on Ron's. Just my $.02 worth

That is the truth, or you end up paying some crazy surcharge for every normal item.

Jonathanhair07 12-31-2014 03:39 PM

When I bought my lip for my speed I paid triple the price. Just for shipping.

SlickRide2013 01-01-2015 02:17 PM

Shipping is ridiculous out here. Luckily every time I've purchased an item for my speed the company has hooked me up with free shipping!

ms6mil 01-01-2015 09:21 PM

Jon, you should just have everyone in Hawaii order shit, send it to your house and have the Armyhe rest of your house ship it with thold goods when you move over there.

I need your meth btw. I'm running low until I find the local place

@Jonathanhair07;

I got that gas can full of meth. Won't need it for a while.

Jonathanhair07 08-11-2015 09:57 PM

Alright I'm here. Seen a lot of speeds of schofield and throughout mililani.

JPele21 08-11-2015 11:46 PM

Welcome...it seems a lot of the speeds are floating around those areas. Heavy built being mostly the Army speeds and maybe a handful of the locals.

Yea I was surprised. I just picked mine up from the port today. It's dirty as hell. Would be nice to everyone together for a nice meet and greet. When I was here in 2009 it was hardly any.

JPele21 08-13-2015 01:51 PM

I'm down in Hickam area... I'm definitely on the conservative side and haven't built too much extra. I would love to go with a new CS turbo, but at the end of the day I'm not so sure I really have a need. There is, however, almost weekly AutoX races at the stadium...I haven't seen too many speeds running them but I have seen a lot of fun cars come out of the woodwork (older Lotus, some older RX-7, Protege Speed)

Haha. My speed wouldn't do so well at auto x. cs sport or bnrs are great upgrades for people not chasing big numbers.

JPele21 08-14-2015 06:51 PM

Yah...it is definitely on the short list. I have low miles, mainly because of the couped up nature of the island. Nowhere really to put on serious miles. Both of the turbo setups look fairly easy to build out without getting too crazy. I need the drivability to remain practical, but the engineer in me wants to tinker and keep playing with the engine.

Yea corksport or bnr is the turbo for you. good if you going to do auto x. I ran a bnr before I went built and had zero issue with reliability.

JPele21 08-14-2015 08:28 PM

@Jonathanhair07; BTW...if you run by Don Quote (store) pick up a bottle of MX-7 glass cleaner. It is the only thing I have found that really takes off the water spots on the front windshield. Takes a bit of elbow grease but they do come off. Even the deep ones that are faint to see under most driving conditions.

Ok thank. I'm going to have run down to first class tint in Honolulu and re tint the whip. Also wanna wrap my roof cause it have damage from my bike racks and hail and don't want it to rustout

JPele21 08-15-2015 03:09 PM

are you doing vinyl wrap yourself or have you found someone local to do it? I really hate having the black car here. Every time I see the CWPs running around I want one. The black is extremely hard to keep clean here

Yea it's a place in Honolulu called first class tint. They did vinyl work for me back in 2010. They are pretty good and fast.

I wouldn't know. Not enough solid road here for me when I need to get WOT logs. I'm sure it's a place somewhere you can get logs.

JPele21 11-13-2015 03:07 PM

I believe most were running logs off dillingham airfield area.
