I am going to be honest here. I am sitting next to a friend who owns an 05 STI fully bolted on the stock snail. He took it to Cobb and had it pro-tuned. He is making 298 HP and 344 ft/lbs on a mustang dyno, which tend to run a bit low.

I have ridden with him numerous times and when he gives it the beans, I cannot lift my head from the seat back. My genpu isn't even close.

OP might have pulled on him because he wasn't interested in the triple digit speeds. After all, huge STI wings attract cops.

Sti's are pretty much just fast in 1st and 2nd after that they just run out of steam. The awd is what's putting your head back into the seat and making it "feel" faster than it actually is.

Which car is better is not an issue here, modded versus near-stock is. A truly fully bolted STI is a force to be reckoned with. A genpu with an ots stage1 probably won't beat it, but a fully bolted MS3 would own a fully bolted STI.

I am just making the case that our cars stock are faster than stock STI's, but stock versus fully bolted is a different story.

Yeah, an old friend of mine drives a fully bolted 05 STi with a re-worked stock turbo. Puts 343 to the wheels at this elevation and runs low 12s. We did a third gear pull with me in the pax seat and my head bounced off the seat. They're quick.

The WRX's with AWD are ferociously fast off the line with the grip- that is there strong point. I had a 2010, it was untouchable off the line. Once going they are no more than the MS3 and the AWD is going to suck up some of the power. And they slow down after 100 and top out 130-140 ish- the AWD really bogs them down. I had a 2010 and knew what it could do. The MS3 strength is 30-40 on up. They pull very hard and I would vote the MS3 over a lot of cars.

I'm sorry but I have to say that WRXs and STis pull pretty hard on the highway til about 80mph, they have no top end power after that but its not like they are slow even from a 40 roll, and I own a MS3 fulley bolted and catless besides FMIC. I have a couple friends with Evos and STis and even a Hennessey Camaro lol just wanted to throw that in but the awd system of the STi isn't slow by any means. If it was fully bolted, it would have raped you, and me, and most other MS3s without BTB. and whoever pro tuned that one guy's friend's 05 STi and its making less than 300awhp fully bolted, it's either the most conservative 91 tune i've ever seen or the tuner was his little brother using the CobbAP beta tuner on his laptop

Having driven that car, rode in that car and raced that car, I have a hard time believing that this story isn't horseshit. Yes, the car's strong point is 1st and 2nd gear, but it's still pretty fucking fast in 3rd and up. The best I've been able to do is lose to him by several car lengths on the highway. Off the line, it's not even close.

you beyond suck at driving if a WRX with an intake yanked you (unless you werent driving, then replace you with they), were you doing 40 in 3rd? stock for stock an MS3 will put 1/2 - 1 car on an STI, i've done it and seen it done.

WRXs/STIs can be slow. If the owner likes to make noise or throw money on parts that really don't make power its not going to be fast. They can be made fast for dirt cheap as well. I have an $800 dollar turbo and fueling mods to run E85 and have my car tuned on free open ecu software. My trap speed is only a couple mph (2mph) off what I ran on the 50/50 3076r MS3. Ran a 12.8 at 6000ft elevation with less than $1,800 in mods. 11's have been run on E85 and the stock VF52 turbo with traps of 115-117mph. That's not slow. Key is the ethanol. I wouldn't bother modding the WRX on pump gas.

Also the 2011+ WRX weighs less than the genpu. The STI is significantly heavier. Stock STIs and WRXs dyno within 5hp of each other.

I have raced more than a few STIs, Evos, 5.0s, SS that thought my car was just a "WRX" and ended up seeing my tail lights. Badges don't always tell the entire story.
