Sticky tires I'm looking for a set of tires that'll let me put my new-found whp (400ish) to the road. I was looking at the Nitto NT05s but after the exchange on the Canadian dollar I'd be coming in just short of $1300 ... and that's without install, balance, etc. That's rich for my blood. The tire stuff I've found on the site is from 2009-10. Looking for something current. I'm after a 235/40R18, up from the 225 originals, as that's about as wide as I'm willing to go with my stock rims. With the lowering kit I'm not interested in changing the profile and having to worry about rub. Interested in straight line, not track, not circuit. If there's volumes on the subject that I've missed, apologies. I have the devil's own time finding anything here. |
Check out Hankook RS-3 |
All i can say is if you want sticky daily tires try and find a happy medium between stickiness and price. I went thru a set of azenis 615k in a summer. Which was basically 600 bucks. This summer I'm going for something reasonably priced that is decent in tread wear. For the strip I'm going for MT slicks. The point I might try to make here is if you really wanna use the 400 whp you basically have to buy slicks. No sticky tire is really going to hook up. I'm running around 400 whp and my azenis would slip in 4th so yea take it for what it's worth. Edit: welcome to FWD Sorry I've been drinking so take what sense there is in my post if any and forget about the rest. |
I ran nitto drag radials around 370 HP they wouldn't hook in 3rd. Unless you turn the tq down til 4k rpm you will probably spin em under 45 Mph no matter what tires you have. |
Why not get Michelin Pilot Super Sports? I have these tires and they have really good grip. Paid 1000 CAD + tax for a set from costco. When I worked for BMW our new f80/82 m3/m4s had these tires and it was pretty difficult to lose traction once they're warmed up. If Michelin is not your thing, costco also carries Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 for a similar price and has a $70 MIR. |

re71 is the fast circuit tire locally, Rs-3s seem to last abit longer I prefer rs3s just because they last longer lol |
BFG Comp 2 A/S have a TREMENDOUS amount of straight line grip. I just bought the 235/40/18's and they have more grip than the Pilot Sport hands down! Cheap too. Compare specs to other tires you are looking at. They might surprise you. |
I agree. I got the GForce Comp 2 Sports 235/40 and they're great IMO. Got them for about $95/tire too. |

Thanks for the input guys. Ended up going with the Nitto NT05s from Discount Tire Direct. Picked them up Stateside (Maine) and got a pretty good deal. |

Yokohama Advan Neova AD-08R was my choice. Very sticky for a street tire. Classified as Extreme Performance. I'm at only 300 whp, but they stick very well. Closest thing to true R track tires I've rolled on. |
