Default Stupid ass pin stripe

When I bought my car it had this ugly 1996 pinstripe running from the front fender (started with a little mazda sign) all the way back and up behind the rear windows. I read about removing them so I let my car sit in the sun and I pulled off it off. Well, this left the adhesive. I heated up the adhesive and used goo gone to get off the adhesive in a little section. First, this was a pain in the ass for just the little section I did. I also noticed I could still see where the pin stripe was. I went over it with wax and I can still see it.

My question is, would a detailing shop be able to buff this away? You can see it looking right on but you can see it when the sun hits it. I am hoping it will come out because it is going to bug the shit out of me. Thanks!

Yes, that will buff out. What happened is the paint under the stripe hasn't been exposed to elements and didn't fade the same as the surrounding paint. A body or detail shop can definitely fix it. You could probably do it yourself as well with a light compound followed by fresh wax done by hand.

Thanks man. I am just going to take it there and have them remove the rest of the adhesive. It took my about 20 mins to remove a 10 inch section completely. Complete PITA.

el oh el. I seriously hope you don't plan on doing any major mods, because if you think rubbing some compound on your paint is a PITA, your gonna have a bad time.

MAN UP!

Yeah, I should probably spend a few hours removing the adhesive then compound it and have it still showing a little when I could take it down the road for ten minutes and have everything perfect for 40 bucks. Sounds like something I want to do. Or, I could go buy a buffer, spend three days teaching myself how to buff, jack up the clear coat instead of spending ten minutes and forty bucks.

Like they said, it'll buff out. I finally took out my side moldings this summer, and my car is a 2007. Compound and polish, followed by sealant and you can't notice the difference.

Also, 3M Adhesive Remover > Goo Gone. Just don't use it on bare plastic.

Next time heat up the pinstripe( or any decal) with a heatgun or at least a blowdryer. Same thing with tint. The sun doesnt heat it up enough

What compound and polish do you recommend? I know there are different levels of compound.

Believe me, the paint was hot -- it was in the upper 80's that day. The stripe removed very easily -- just not the adhesive.

I made the dealer take them off of mine before I took it home. I'm glad I did. It looked like a pain in the ass.

i like using meguiars ultimate compound. it works great as it cuts fast and leaves a nice finish without needing to polish with something after.

OK, so I used the compound then polish. You can still see where the paint is darker where the pinstripe was. I took it to the local detail shop and they tried to buff it out and you can still see it when the sun hits it. The car is only a 2011. After everything I have read, I didn't believe I would be able to see any remnants of the stripe at all??

I used Wolfgang Total Swirl remover followed by their Finishing Glaze. Both applied with a dual action polisher.

Stopped at another shop. They said the paint has faded from the sun. If you look at my car it almost looks orange at times from the flake. They are going to try to cut and buff on Thursday but he said he cant promise anything.

Its just the top most layer. If you're careful you can cut and feather a small amount in and then blend it out with a good buff.
