Tech Package Headlight Question The right headlight on my 2011 Speed 3 with tech package has condensation which has blown out two bulbs, and in spite of trying the silicone seal trick, it still leaks. I can buy an aftermarket, non tech replacement for around $400 on Ebay, but the one that turns the headlight beam with the front wheels is around the cost of a good beater car. Can I just install the non-tech unit on one side? I really don't care if the right headlight doesn't turn in curves. |
Can't believe silicone didn't fix the leak. Also find it hard to believe the bulb blew twice, they are sealed. My guess is a bad connection at the ballast coming and going. Try reading this http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...ne-bad-184532/ The only way I figured out where mine leaked was watching where it blew bubbles. Why put the wrong headlight in for a leak? |
I slathered on quite a bit of dielectric grease or silicone paste in the ballast connection and then did the silicone bead, and put in a desiccant and I haven't had any condensation and I live in Hawaii and get rained on just about every day. Did you pull all the brackets off and run the silicone between the clear and black plastic? I went around twice because some areas sealed up really nice and others took a second layer of silicone. Also, I had to leave my light off the car to completely air out and dry out. Even after running an air mattress pump for a few hours it still needed to work out a bit of the humidity trapped in the lens. |
