(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I know there are tons of aftermarket items.. but I wondered what, if anything, MAzda sold as an additional upgrade performance wise for this car? if/when I get one - I thought maybe if they had upgraded suspension/coilovers or other stuff.. one coudl buyh it then and roll it into financing... versus adding it all after the fact. does teh car really benefit a lot from basic upgrades? I know turbo cars often do see big gains from chips and other breathing mods... I used to have a turbo car several years ago and chipped it and picked up some decent poiwer.. but at hte expense of having to run higher octane fuel... for the MS3 - if you do aftermarket mod - with say a chip or this accessport thing - what kind of gains are had? stuff you can actually feel? does it make the torque steer become unlivable or not that bad? is the stock suspension track ready or will doing springs or coilovers make it substantially better handling? my goal is to buy a car that has some seriosu perofmrance out of the box and won't need a lot of upgrades....jsut some minor stuff.. maybe lower it... intake, and a chip? |

If you've never had a car that was much over 200HP, then the MS3 in it's stock form will probably be more than satisfactory for you. If you've ridden sportbikes that go 0-60 in 3 secs, then you might be disappointed in the MS3, but then again, you can't get any other car that performs as well as the MS3 at this price range. The beauty about the MS3, is that if you start thirst for more powaah, some new mods will fix it

| Not Ranked : 0 score Short answer: See Intro To Your Mazdaspeed sticky in General Forum Longer answer: All OEM parts are shit, dealerships are full of shit, all their techs don't know shit about this car, Mazda doesn't give a shit about you or your car. "Ready out of the box" is a lie and you will never find what you want at the dealership. Buy the car, use the search button, buy the necessary parts and install them. Read the aforementioned sticky, read this PDF document, and don't even think about the dealership unless you need warranty work.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The gen1's had a veritable cornucopia of Mazdaspeed specific upgrades that were available as add-ons. They were still better than stock performance and the upside was that even if one of the add-ons was responsible, Mazda would not deny warranty service as they would if it were a different brand. The only problem was they were ridiculously overpriced and didn't measure up in performance compared to most of the other aftermarket parts in the same categories. Which also happened to be quite a bit cheaper in most cases. Don't be a fool. Mazda doesn't want you to mod and race this car. They want you to do exactly what you're asking about right now. They want you to be a blind idiot that didn't do any research and is under the illusion he is getting the best performance there is to offer. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score speed is relative. i have driven crotch rockets.. and yes they do mess with what is fast. I have had some reltiavely fast cars in teh past.. I remember after going for a ride on a friends bike one day and then after getting home..and taking off in my car and thinking "WTF.. my car is sooo slow".. and before riding that bike I had always thought my car was fast... but that's ok.. i'm older / wiser and have zero plans to ride a bike again. they don't call them "donor cycles" for nothing. ![]() i may test drive one today to see how quick it is. my Acura RL has 290hp..but it weighs a good 800lbs more than a Speed3 and has less torque! i htink my car is 250ish lbs of torque... i'll be curious to see if I like it. i test drove an RX8 a couple years ago and loved it. absolutely loved it. i also test drove an EVO though and really didn't care for it all. it didn't feel all that fast, and it was boring and $hitty inside. i know some MS3 guys think the EVO is like the holy grail of compact sport cars....what makes a car fun is sometimes hard to put into words.. you j ust have to drive it. honestly.. if I do buy an MS3 and did mods - it would be basic. i'd tint it. then put H&Rs on it. thne an intake, and maybea chip. that would be it. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I've owned 3 different Mazdaspeeds. I've worked on, tuned, and driven them with varying mods, from 100% stock straight off the lot, to my buddy's 400whp big turbo 08 MS3. I worked in a road race shop, installing parts, aligning, corner balancing, and diagnosing suspension setups for road racing and autocross. I worked on quite a few MS3s and MS6s there. I gave you my opinion in your last post, and I'd bet you that, if I were you, that you would think that I would know what I'm talking about. Kidding, but seriously, find a SoCal member here and get them to give you a ride in a modded one.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Hi there OP. Welcome to Hater-Nation. You asked a fair question so I'll give you some of my honest feedback. (Word to the wise: The search functionality on this forum sucks. It's best to do a google search and let the results point you to a specific post on this forum.) After I bought my '10 MS3, I immediately went to the Mazdaspeed Section of MazdaUSA's site. Long story short, there is nothing there for the Gen 2s. So you're SOL on that end. Be careful on aftermarket stuff. Never believe all the hype on a product.... Cough... AccessPort... Cough. I've owned several hot hatches over the years and it seems that some aftermarket companies that cater to Mazda enthusiast set the bar low. It might be an indication of the perceived IQ of the typical Mazdaspeed owner, which can be potentially deemed "low" based on much of the crap you'll see posted on this site. Enjoy your new MS3.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The AP isn't that good? Fair enough, it's your opinion. Let me elaborate on the AP vs. just saying that it's good. With a stock car and stage 1 map on the AP, you can gain 20-25whp at peak, and much more torque. With a custom tune, you will gain more than that, not to mention that your power will not run out as quickly and you can increase your powerband. You will also get flat-foot shifting, launch control, obd diagnostics tool, data logger, and tunability for mods. There's also a ton of support on this forum from Cobb and other tuners if you have any questions. The worst part about the AP is that it costs $600 new, but that's well worth it IMO. There, I said more than "get it, it's good", or "it's crap, and not all that it's cracked up to be." You can judge for yourself whether it's worth the money now. |
