Thinking about buying a MS3...need your help

So are the rumors true that they will not be making the S3 in 14'? I really want to pick up a 13' with tech pack in white but wife feels its not the right time. I do agree (childish side says just do it) but if they arent going to be making them anymore I am going to have to try and get my ducks in a row by later this year. When do they usually stop production for model years so I can begin my hunt then? Is there usually a large carryover for these during model years? Or will people be trying to scoop them up when it is officially annouced that it will not be produced anymore. Alot of variables for me to consider.

Wow, didn't realize this. No wonder the dealers won't go below $21k on the 2013 models. I thought they'd be dumping them in anticipation of the 2014 model, but i suppose thats not a guarantee.

From what I've heard there is going to be a gen three for the production year 2015. I could be wrong but I think the plan was a Skyactiv 2015 Mazdaspeed 3 twin turbo diesel. This is total speculation but I heard it from multiple friends in the auto industry. Who knows if they are right but that would be an awesome car to own.

I'd pass on that honestly. That is two years down the line and I refuse to ever buy a car first model year they are out. That's just asking for minor headaches along the way IMO. The current gen has the look I like and so does my wife since she has a 10 base 3 she loves. The price for the 3 with the tech pack has everything I want and is not over the top with Bs features I don't want like rear view camera etc.

I'm with you on the first model year purchase. I did technically get the first model year 2nd gen speed 3 but it was essentially the same car as the first gen with a different chassis and a few performance tweaks. I think the next gen powertrain will be totally different and might have a few quirks to sort out before it's buy-able.

Well it's not a Genpu but I got a MS3!! It's an MGM 08.5 with 39k on it. Super clean inside and out. As far as I can tell it has never been modded and all the things raider had posted to look out for checked out. Gotta thank raider for helping along the way with the purchase!! Now I just have to figure out how to post pics and donate! FYHN!!

It's always a toss up between waiting to pick up the newest and best, or just getting what you want now. Like some people say if you pick up the first year of a new generation you might end up with some warranty and recall things to deal with.

Of course, why would you want old stuff when you can have new stuff.

That's true and I've always loved the MS3 since day one. I remember driving in my SRT and wondering how much mazda would give me for my skittle on trade. Who knows maybe one day ill be in a used 13 ms3. Either way I'm just enjoying my car and happy to be part of such a great car community.

On a side note it won't let me donate. It keeps giving me an error after I enter my card info. Has anybody else run into this problem?

Congratulations on your purchase. I'm sure Raider or Haltech will be able to figure our what the problem with your donation is... then check out the for sale section. I know you mentioned that you weren't really planning on modding the car but once you see some of the deals that pop up you might just change your mind.

grats man, pics/color? just spent a grand on new forks and radial brakes for my gsxr since the wife is adamant about no car till the end of the year. Maybe there will be some very low mileage ones pop up for sale early next year I could pounce on. Seen some 2012's with <10k miles going for 19-21k so it def saves a few grand. But I really want the black wheels and the tech pack lol

Have to be a contributor to see the for sale sections correct? If I was to buy a used S3 I'd prefer if it already had a bit done to it and know its been taken care of by a mazda enthusiast; as well as give a good home to someones ride.

I can't see how the new Mazda 3 could get a speed version. They basically turned it into a small suv by the looks of it. Not sporty in the least. The right height is really high looking. It reminds me of the old AMC Pacer.
