Never been good at this back and forth, so I will say "fuck the haters". It is not your money or your decision.

Good thing is, I get to be the test subject on a lightly used Mercedes for this group. I will keep everyone updated on what is going on with the car including:

Mileage
Repair costs
kills
etc

To that effect here is my first posting on mileage:

153 mile trip to the coast and back over the weekend:

Selling your MS3 for family concerns? many of us have MS3's just because of that (family concerns) for me it was the grocery getter aspect that sold it; that and this crazy community.

CL's are nice, AMG can be good but the only AMG sold currently that I would want isn't sold here (A45 AMG) the US offerings are shit, I had a chance to visit Mercedes World in Surrey/UK last year, very nice vehicles there as well as their bastard child the not-so-smart car.

as far as making a good choice, I suppose if you really wanted the car and don't care about its reliability the warranty is the way to go, but I wouldn't expect anything but what you have gotten here 'bragging' about it, its MSF, the folks over at mbworld would say you made the right choice, folks here are just going to point out that your vehicle shouldn't *need* the warranty to make it ok or affordable. I would be curious to know just what the 'warranty' covers, how much the inspection fees are and when/how they decide to buy you out (most have a clause to service or sever with pro-rated refund).

Good luck with the car, they are nice, or at least can be made to be.

Warranty is the bumper to bumper (they call it "high tech" warranty). It does cover all the high tech stuff like the air suspension and electronics. It also covers anything oil touches or fluids touch. it doesn't cover brakes and normal wear parts

The buy out is at 50K in maintenance. It stipulates they will but the car back at the pro-rated amount the car is worth at the time if there were no mechanical issues.

It is not a true AMG, just the AMG sport package (wheels, exhaust, interior, exterior). It has the normal 550 motor and mechanics (5.5L v8, no supercharger). Mercedes offered it as an option from the factory, which the original owner got installed.

Inspection is free, the deductible on warranty work is 200 bucks (like my Mazdas was). Oil changes are free for as long as I keep the car.

Wear items go to a different shop in town called Matrix (My CEO uses them for his 2014 Renntech 63AMG) and told me to go there.

update:

Warranties at mercedes are great... will never buy a merc out right unless it is pre 1995 (quality got shitty at merc up till ~06 when they got their head out of their asses). So far not an extra dime from my pocket.

why:
pillow suspension has had two bags go bad (being replaced this weekend)
drivers side exterior door handle needed to be replaced
I shredded a motor mount (I had no idea they were liquid filled and not rubber)
head light went out on me
transmission's learning system needed to be reset for my driving style (had no idea it had that but whatever)
bent a wheel on a pot hole (they covered it, NFI why)
the Nav needed updating
the emergency system needed updating in case of crash (software)


In other news:

In town MPG: avg 15.5 mpg
freeway: (you will not believe it but it is true) 26.0~26.5 mpg on premium

PS:
Scoped the cylinders, no markings.
inspected params from the star system, within 0.5% factory fresh specs.
inspected spark plugs, all are clean and happy (they look ideal, crazy enough)
inspected exhaust. No rotting.
inspected brakes. Rear's are new and fronts are over 50% (these will be replaced with an 8pot AMG conversion because that car IS a land yacht and needs bigger brakes. The factory 4pot is not enough).


OH, never, EVER, turn the ESP off in the city. Mercs are tail happy and I was in the city pressing buttons... turned ESP off, powered into a corner and got 45 degrees of sideways. fun but I am absolutely sure someone called the cops on me.

I'm just smart enough and mature enough to realize that cars are a waste of money.

the c63 wasn't big enough for us.

I liked the idea of the cls55 amg or the cls63 amg but after the mazda I was kinda done with forced induction for a while (burned two turbos in the speed3 in four years). 80k for a motor drop in was too insane for me as well.

Lastly I liked this particular gen because of the 5.5L production motor (previous years this particular motor was a hand made kompressor motor). They are relatively cheap to get used in a failure scenario (8k) and I am told (fingers crossed) that the motor is solid for a very long time. Time will tell though.

Minus the haters sounds like a decent deal, hard to believe it wont costs more in maintenance but if you did the research ill believe it. I personally wouldn't choose a Benz cause of the premium cost in parts and I have a feeling they aren't easy to work on because fuck German over engineering.

I see these around often enough, probably would have gone with an oldschool 7 series or something for the cheaps(ample legroom, actually reliable well past 200k) but VERY nice car if costs are covered.
