Default Totaled the speed

Fucking rear ended someone today and im pretty sure the cars totaled. I havent actually had an adjuster look at it yet but from what I could tell the motor took some damage so im thinking its done. On a good note my intake and tip looked like they might be fine because the right side of the front end took a lot of the damage. Im also thinking my downpipe and my cobb cbe (which I installed last night so it wasnt even on there for a fucking day) should be fine but ill find out once I take a look at it at the towing yard.

Anyway, can anyone give me a ballpark answer as to how long it should take to have an adjuster come out and look at it? Insurance company is state farm.

Also, it was a 2012 touring with 5,400 miles on it.. Sticker price was 24.8k and I ended up writing a check for 24.3k AFTER tags and taxes (I got the car for 22.7k) Can anyone tell me ballpark how much state farm will cut me a check for? (I have full coverage)

They are usually out pretty quickly. Call them, open a claim, and they should be out ASAP.

As far as money, it depends on what they find. No one here can even start to give a ballpark.

All I can tell you is that State Farm tried to screw me when my first MS6 was totaled. Here is my advice, argue the amount if it seems like they are low-balling you. The will base the totaled price on cars sold in your area, but what they will "forget" to check is the trim level, any enhancements you have done, etc. With my first speed, I purchased it for 20K, drove it for 3 years, and when it was totalled, I got a 19K+ check. Before I argued, they offered 14.5K...

I got rear ended, took a week to get final call (State Farm) on a totaled MZ3. Assume you do not have rental insurance, so you will have to pay your own transportation.

Find the best and closest assessment for your car, on-line, craigslist, local dealers and used car lots. If you can find a comparable vehicle with same upgrades, mileage, etc., you can negotiate what is a "fair" value for your car. You will need something they can verify, so don't go in with what you think is fair. What you have in your favor, they want this off the books, quickly.

This stuff never feels like turns out in your favor, and you are going to get royally screwed because of the depreciation on a newer car.

Sorry this happened, be glad you are not hurt(?), and hope everything works out.

They asked me to get prices of three of the same car. Start there as above mentioned. Get at least five prices. They should usually meet you close to what you found and sometimes you get lucky and make out by a few hundred. I got lucky on my VW a few years back and made about a 1k on mine. And yes if you don't like the offer contest it with your numbers.

sorry to hear about what happened. they might actually try and fix it if it doesnt exceed like 70% of what the car is worth or something like that. the adjuster will write a low amount for the damages they can see. take it to a bodyshop and they will be able to help you out. but if its that bad i would hope they total it cause it will never be the same ride.

Not to sound like a dick, but is this statement true or are you exaggerating?
I find it hard to believe you bought a car for 20k owned it for 3 years and got 19k from it. Unless you didn't put any mileage on it, but still...

To sell the parts, you need to be VIP here. Just throwing it out.

So I should just pull up craigslist ads, autotrader ads, etc. and tell them what kind of prices, mileage etc. I found? Or do they actually need to see the ad?

Just a little sore, thanks for the concern. Why should I look for a vehicle with comparable upgrades? I thought you always lost what you put into the car unless the parts themselves didnt get damaged and you took them off..

Thanks man, I wish I could put the pics up on here. I just got back from the towing company and they pretty much confirmed its done. The motor got pushed up and actually got hit in the right corner where the coolant tank sits and just all around that general area so im almost 100% sure its totaled.

Gonna donate right now, i've been meaning to but it keeps slipping my mind. If they give me at least $20-21K im gonna fork out the extra $3-4k and get another brand new one. I think thats a pretty solid number to expect, what do you think? The car only had 5,400 miles on it.. And its only been a day and I already miss the fuck outta the car, its seriously the all-around best car i've ever driven I loved that thing and I cant picture myself in anything else.

Their first offer will be low but it won't be their final offer. They call them claim adjusters for a reason. I went round and round with American Family on a corvette wifey totaled and ended up $3K above first offer. Be ready to not have a ride though it may take a week or two.

Got a rental the day after. I didnt feel like dealing with trying to find rides everywhere I go. Luckily my work isnt too far so I could have walked if necessary but getting a rental was just too easy to resist.

Did you call your agent and add your modifications to your car on their list so they were insured? If not, they shouldn't have covered any of it because you were paying insurance on the factory car, not a modified one.

Just a little sore, thanks for the concern. Why should I look for a vehicle with comparable upgrades? I thought you always lost what you put into the car unless the parts themselves didnt get damaged and you took them off.
I would stock the car out, if you can. No reason for them to take mods, they will not give you much for it, and they likely do not care. My impression was they are not going to nitpick parts, but your case may different. If you stock out, tell them. Make sure they know you are being straight up.

I would use KBB, Edmonds, and NADA for base costs, go from their. I am not a great negotiator, and I assume you will need a hard number, in print of what a car sold for. If you can haggle more, that may be, I did not try, and felt they were fair with me. It is coming out of your insurance, keep that in mind.

How is the other car and driver?

Not a "dick" thing to ask... I was surprised on the price, but I didn't add many miles over the 3 years. I looked at my purchase price and it was 20.5K so I was a bit off. The thing I've seen here (and this was a little over a year ago that it was totalled), is that they were selling so fast from the dealership that the pricing hadn't dropped too significantly from what I purchased it at. They sold 3 '06 MS6's in the 2 weeks I was looking for a replacement...

No financing here. Bought the car outright.

+1. How'd it happen?
No I wasnt following too close. I had just made a right out of a gas station onto a two lane highway. Right after I made the right the road started to bend to the right. As I was going around this bend, right as the bend was about to end I looked in the passenger side mirror/took a super quick glance over my shoulder to merge into the right lane and right when I looked back in front of me the guy was at a complete stop waiting to make a left into a parking lot. BANG. Didnt even have enough time to get on the brakes at all. I have no idea how it happened, I had a perfect driving record before this and when I say perfect I mean perfect not one ticket or accident. I usually never make mistakes when I drive. It was completely my fault but it was obviously a complete accident and I really dont have any idea how it happened, its so fucking weird because im usually so careful after being a passenger in a car that banged out on 95 going 135mph.

Other car is pretty much fine, the left corner of the rear bumper is a little banged up but other than that its just as it was before I hit it. The driver had a small cut on the bridge of his nose but ended up not going to the hospital so im assuming hes fine.

Have some local people from MSF put their cars on CL for what your asking for (if they have near the same mods) to help get the proof for the adjustment. Its not like they have to sell it, just throw it up there to help you out. If you donate you can get into your local NATOR section

Thanks for updates OP. Stressful days, I know. Fucking life.

Was a police report filed? Any tickets given?

^Good luck with the fake CL listings! I would hope the claims adjuster has been around the block a couple of times, and their job depends on getting their numbers as close as possible. Keep in mind, they are not looking for asking prices, they are looking for selling prices. Again, it is your insurance company, your policy. If you want to cheat your way through life, that is your choice.

Yes I don't mind cheating my way through life, because it sure as fuck doesn't pay to be honest with anyone anymore. You tell them the truth and you get fucked something awful. I would rather just lie and get what %49 of the other people get for their lies and laziness. I mean fuck we are paying for it anyway, might as well collect on the lies. So I think the fake CL ads were pretty genius.

It happened because some faggot stopped in the middle of a highway to wait to pull into a parking lot, that's why.

That's his fault for being retarded.

Sorry for the late update guys. I purchased this car in late september for 24.3k, thats what I wrote the check for. I had it for almost exactly two months and put 5500 miles on it during that time. So I got a call from state farm last monday the 10th with their offer of 25.3k. I immediately accepted because I knew that was way more than what I was supposed to get, or at least thats what I thought. I have no idea how it happened like this but I made out with a grand on a car that I bought brand new and put over 5k miles on. So no complaining here, and everyone was ok after the accident so im kind of glad it happened at this point besides my rates rising a little bit.

So I got the check last thursday, went to my bank and deposited it, and went right to john kennedy mazda located in conshohocken, PA, where I purchased my first speed and got another 2012. This time I went with a velocity red mica instead of the black. Once again I couldnt be happier with the car, and the color has grown on me even more than the black did, so im all around super pumped.

Thanks for all the input guys, appreciate it.

Just saw your question, but yes I got charged with careless driving. Not sure when I have to go to court for it, but ill keep everyone updated.

Update your sig

On a serious note, I am impressed by your insurance's offer. Hopefully you aren't in too much trouble for the traffic offense.
