turbo question which gear?

obvious I'm a noob and I've heard someone said the turbo only happens in first and second gears, which doesn't make much sense to me. In the contrary, the wiki page said turbo is limited in first and second gears to protect the engine or something, but it's not limited in 3rd and above. Can someone clarify what these mean?

SleeperHatch 09-23-2011 11:53 PM

On stock tune boost is limited in first and second gear to a lower psi...once you hit 3rd you get the full 15 psi..yes you get boost in every gear not just 1st and 2nd

pingaboo 09-24-2011 12:06 AM

so I got a turbo car, I'm suppose to know everything about car?

Rich-PMS 09-24-2011 12:26 AM

Something like 11psi 1st and 2nd
15.6psi 3rd 4th 5th 6th

Reverse you can spike 66.6psi, so be careful

i did read the manual, but i don't need to read it cover to cover to drive this car. why don't you show me where this information is in the book? in case you haven't read my post, i did my research and had questions and that's why i'm asking. maybe you should read up what troll is. i don't feel like arguing with a stranger on the internet, so back off and relax.

BobbleHead 09-24-2011 03:11 AM

OMG this question was actually asked!!!

Bucker 09-24-2011 07:02 AM

jesus fucking christ. I'm the one that is NICE to new dudes and you fucking blew my mind. you read a wikipedia page and have a friend who said you only have boost in 1st and 2nd. That is'nt fucking research asshole. Start reading and ask specific questions when you struggle.

+1 to this. You can't read enough if you really want to know about your car.

Incidentally, Sway, what is your avatar?

It's true the turbo happens best in 3rd gear, it's best to just not use gears 1 and 2 you just gotta slip the clutch

Yes... It's called taking care of it

alien_sporez 09-24-2011 09:59 AM

Ok, go easy on the guy. He clearly got some bad info from questionable sources and doesn't know jack shit about turboed cars, so he came here for clarification. He did the right thing by asking the question rather than remaining ignorant. That is the only way he will learn.

Now, to OP, do the following:
1) Go to your friend who gave you the information and kick him in the scrotum.
2) Remove from your mind the idea you can get reliable information from Wikipedia, because any idiot can post on there.
3) As your friend rolls on floor in agony, yell into his face, "And stop posting on Wikipedia!"

PunjabiPlaya 09-24-2011 10:01 AM

don't forget to bounce your testicles in his face while he's on the floor

pzr2874 09-24-2011 10:09 AM

Research should be done WAY before you even think about buying any car.

To each their own

dizzin9 09-24-2011 10:17 AM

turbo doesn't happen to me, including reverse. i think the stealership sold me a n/a 3 with badges.

but i have bose w/ mp3 so i guess it could be a speed.

boosted_out 09-24-2011 10:26 AM

haha fuck you just took off 20 points off gen pu respect :( maybe perhaps the boost also affects how fast your wipers go.

rfinkle2 09-24-2011 01:55 PM

This thread is a joke,

not because the OP asked a question, but because all of the guys talking shit are WRONG TOO.

Boost is limited in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. LOL.

LOL.

Sorry to ruin all of the fun.

Rich-PMS 09-24-2011 02:03 PM

i read somewhere that 3rd was limited, but i always saw 15-16psi in 3rd.

ArcticSpeed3 09-24-2011 02:40 PM

I see 15# in all gears with that shitty factory boost gauge.....:wall:

OP I high encourage swapping to a good aftermarket boost gauge. I swapped to an Autometer one and haven't look back, turned the factory gauge off....and thats how it will stay.

i've read it on a few differant reviews of the MS3. i'm not sure if it was gen1/2 specific.

2011speed 09-24-2011 03:08 PM

seemed like to me the only time i had boost limitations in any gear was if my steering wheel wasn't straight lol

dooderek 09-24-2011 03:18 PM

you guys make seller's proud

BobbleHead 09-24-2011 03:41 PM

Reviews on 07s say 1st and 2nd and reviews on anything later say 1st through 3rd but who knows if that's the case

how come I see 16 psi from 1st-6th then? hm...

WAHBAM 09-24-2011 04:21 PM

psi is gradually limited through 1st & 2nd in gen1 & 1st to 3rd in genpus to prevent burn outs & torque steer because we have fail wheel drive. You will still use the turbo in all the gears, but not as much.
