Unicorn Blood/Jizzum Installed & my thoughts...

Well my car just rolled over 30k and i decided it was time to try out the Motorcraft fluid (AKA Unicorn Blood or Jizzum).

Holy shit!!!

I have only had it in the car about 20 miles so far and the difference was immediately noticeable. While I never had any real problems with grinding, I'd have to say that the overall smoothness of the shifting is greatly improved.

If you haven't done this yet, do it!

I will never go back to factory fluid after this. :smlove2:

nice.. i actually might do it when i do my oil change. i just hit 17k in 6 months

there are two camps. most people will love either. however, some try motorcraft and it sucks for them but redline works and others find the oposite true..

you just have to chance it, pick one and see how it goes. i have motorcraft. been in for 30k, still shifts as beautifully as this trans is capable of.

I just use 50% redline and 50% motorcraft.

Worst of both worlds, eh?

Been thinking of doing this, at 24k now. I guess it is as easy as buying some fomoco synthetic fluid draining the old shit and re-filling? What specifically do I ask for at the ford dealership? I pass one everyday.

Part number XT-M5-QS

dont forget the FoMoCo friction modifier.

you could use that in combination with stock or redline shit and im sure it would work just as well.

i had the fomoco fluid and it felt pretty crispy. definitely smoother than stock. not a HUGE difference for me as I didnt experience any problems other than those which are user induced =)

MazdaBoy2.3 10-14-2012 05:20 PM

I was told to stay away from the friction modifier.

I was told by @silvapain and @phate to use. 1/4-1/3 a bottle of friction modifier.

I haven't used friction modifier for the 15k miles ive had motocraft.

It would be cool to see the difference.

Every once in a while i hear people trying redline or royal purple.

But I always hear motorcraft is the least susceptible to cold weather symptoms

McGee 10-14-2012 06:14 PM

if you add friction mod it won't hurt, same goes for if you don't add it
so whatever helps you sleep at night
i wont be adding it

silvapain 10-14-2012 06:53 PM

I've run the Motorcraft with and without friction modifier. It feels much better with the modifier.

Stingray69 10-14-2012 06:56 PM

I am sure I could search and find it but I am drinking and lazy. Why we are on the topic, how many quarts does it take?

breakfstincluded 10-14-2012 07:02 PM

I will try friction modifier next time... in... is it every 40 k miles?

Im guessing id subtract from my motocraft fill to make room for the friction modifier when i do it

2.7 quarts or so. Buy 3 quarts.

The bottle is only 4oz. and you only use 1/3 of it (1-2oz.).

SPEEDRAC3R 10-14-2012 07:25 PM

I've been meaning to do this for, oh I don't know... 40K miles or so. I'm glad I saw this post, and that its working well. You may have inspired me to get off my arse.

Is it safe to say a little extra friction in the LSD is also good for performance as well?

Is the stock fluid synthetic?

I guess its all a balance... lighter oil/less friction = smoother shifts, quieter, less parasitic loss
heavier oil/more friction = tougher shifts, a bit of noise but better performance from the LSD
etc. etc.

Everything in life is a balance no? Some kind of fucking compromise it seems just venting.
