Vin Locations on body panels

Hi everyone,

I was curious if anyone had photos or could explain the vin locations on the body panels? Every car i've previously owned had pretty obvious locations, but i have been unable to locate any of them on the ms3.

Anyone have photos or a general description of the location?

Thanks

TWOptSL0W 08-21-2012 09:32 PM

Craigslist posting leads to arrest of Santa Rosa man suspected in Cotati burglary | PressDemocrat.com

Quote:

A Santa Rosa man selling a green hardtop for a Mazda sports car posted an online for-sale ad and got a visit from a potential buyer.

Instead of a sale, the meeting turned into an arrest as the the top had been stolen and the potential buyer was an undercover Cotati police officer, said Cotati Sgt. Steve Bourns.

Michael Thomas Herrin, 33, was taken into custody and remained in the Sonoma County Jail Tuesday in lieu of $11,000 bail.

Cotati police learned of the missing car top on Sunday.

The Mazda Miata's owner was away on vacation and the car had been parked at an East Cotati Avenue residence. A person watching the house for the victim on Sunday saw the car was missing its roof.

Officers did some research and spotted a Craigslist ad for what could be the missing hardtop, Bourns said.

Worth about $1,200, the green top was for sale for $700 or “best offer.”

On Monday officers contacted the man via text messages and set up an appointment to see the top. Posing as a buyer, an officer went to an apartment on Mendocino Avenue Monday evening.

Herrin was arrested after officers determined they had a match.

Herrin was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possessing stolen property and violating his probation, Bourns said.

Infam0us 08-22-2012 12:18 AM

The photo is of me. But the article is not. Some really weird stalker folks in here wow. I ask a simple question and this is what I get?

Haltech 08-22-2012 12:21 AM

Welp.. ive been on forums since they converted to forums from BBS's... And never, ever in my expeirence as a car enthusiast, has anyone ever asked where they can find all of the vin placards...

So you tell me...

Infam0us 08-22-2012 12:28 AM

I have bought several used cars and always looked for vins as an indicator for accidents. I just bought my car new and did not find any vins on the rear hatch or the rear bumper and was a little worried.

I can see why my question looks sketchy. But, this is a little beyond what I expected. Oh well please flame on.

Infam0us 08-22-2012 12:51 AM

And to add one more thing.

Could it be possible that someone has a low post count because they just bought the car and is interested in learning more?

Once again I realize the question was stupid, so thank you everyone for bringing it to my attention and thanks for the wonderful and kind words.

Should prob post vin too. Ya know, So we can check to see if its stolen and shit. This community has a high entrance fee. But its a GREAT community.

Seaton 08-22-2012 03:40 AM

The VIN is in a pretty obvious spot, so i would imagine if your shady and cant even find the VIN #. Then your gonna get super fucked, not only from this forum.

Raider 08-22-2012 06:14 AM

VIN location is posted in the manual where you can find it.

This thread sucks.

Geo13 08-22-2012 06:25 AM

OP, you lost your cousin 'Vin'?

Brian MP5T 08-22-2012 07:22 AM

Pretty sure that the VIN only need to be on two things.

The Top Dash near the lower part of the window and somewhere on the Engine Block.

SofaKingAwesome 08-22-2012 07:36 AM

It's prob in the door jamb on the sticker too.
Not wasting time with this boring shit.

veezyweezy 08-22-2012 08:39 AM

I would prefer not to have my vin plastered all over the web so i'm going to PM the photo to you.

Infam0us 08-22-2012 10:19 AM

I need to have a few more posts to PM so I hope you folks don't mind a few extra posts.

CW42 08-22-2012 10:24 AM

It's located where all vin numbers are: The driver's side at the edge of the dash so you can read it through the windshield. There's also quite a large one on a metal plate on the firewall behind the engine if you open the hood.

Haltech 08-22-2012 10:27 AM

Why would you need to check the vin panels on a new car lol

Raider 08-22-2012 10:29 AM

Props to op for following through as legit.

Infam0us 08-22-2012 10:31 AM

Lol i am a noob with the internet. I was trying to keep it private, but thanks man.

Raider 08-22-2012 10:32 AM

I actually asked the same question (http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...-3-vin-100050/) when I was looking at used MS3's. It was one of my first posts. I'm used to seeing VIN's on all body panels. I know toyota and honda do this. It's way to see if body panels are original.

TWOptSL0W 08-22-2012 10:36 AM

Ok new guy, you seem legit, I apologize for calling you out, but the last thing we need is a guy with a stolen speed. Good looks clearing your name and welcome to Msf where we don't fuck around lol

I can definitely see both sides of the coin with my question so it's understandable.

The scary thing was Raider was some how able to get my vin when i thought i made my album private lol. Anyways thanks again Raider, appreciate it.

Chimmike 08-22-2012 11:05 AM

OP brought it.

You manned up, had thick skin and stuck with it.
