Warranty running out - what mods should I install first?

Hey everyone

So my 2011 Speed3 is running out of warranty in August (managed to keep the miles at under 50,000 until now). So now that 5 years is up and I'm not responsible for everything on the vehicle...

What mods are a "MUST INSTALL" for the 2011 Speed3?

There's a reason when you created your profile it prompted you to read this. http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...st-read-99499/. I'll give an overview though. The mods listed in the welcome PM are the most common mods done to our cars. If the message didn't make it clear enough, if you make ANY power mods you must get an upgraded HPFP. If you don't plan an actually tuning the car yourself, get an Accessport or start looking into Versatuners since Cobb is in the process of violating its customers prison style right now (http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...pdates-201571/). From there a RMM will keep the power down and your firewall safe from engine movement. Then improve airflow. Intake, IC, DP/TP/RP, and if you're feeling bold then a turbo. A couple of mods in and you'll want a tune via Accessport, Versatuner, etc. There, I've done my good deed for the day.

Thanks for that. I made my account a long time ago, and I didn't remember that post.

I'm basically completely clueless on dealing with any of this stuff. Even replacing the Rear Motor Mount seems scary to me... let alone looking at replacing injector seals and stuff. There's so many choices in aftermarket parts, and I'm feeling overwhelmed already. I change my own oil, have replaced the rotors/brake pads and whatnot, but haven't really done much beyond all that.

Review the DIY threads, YouTube videos, and install tips. There is a wealth of information available. You can also reach out to your local NATOR group, typically they are willing and able to assist if you are willing to learn.

I had never done any work on a vehicle prior to my MS3. First thing I did was an RMM. It took about 30 minutes. If you've changed your breaks you can replace an RMM and it will be a cake walk. The trick is in jacking up the car properly. Just make sure the front end is level and you won't have to do any engine lifting/wrangling. Enjoy modding!

Lol i said i would wait and i just hit 50k today. I was amazed how nice it is to turn wrenches on a car that didnt have years of rust fighting you on every turn of the bolt.

So i woukd start with a intake. It is simple and it is a good assesment of your own wrenching skills.

Next step is how much the mod bug bites. If it bites hard get internals and versatuner. Ap is fine if all you want is a etune. There maps are locked so no harm no foul. You need to be able to log your fuel pressure after an internals install so i cant stress this enuf......get a logging solution (ap/versatuner) at the same time as the internals. Vendors should have bundles for buying bolth. Tuners to as well as bundled tunes. After that if you want more you need to make your own decisions.

Supporting mods first. Hpfp internals. AP. Mount the engine. Unless you're going high power TMM and RMM will be sufficient. DM will give you the least noise and vibrations. Clean the valves or have someone do it for you based on your wrenching skills atm. Then install an oil catch can. EGR delete. One step colder plugs. Upgrade IC based on your needs. I mixed in an intake and TIP in there. After that, work on the exhaust. Been waiting about two months for the Corsport TBE (please hurry the fuck up). From there look into BT not only for power but to be able to be able to produce the same power more efficiently. After that... you won't be asking noob questions anymore.
