Got my new wheels today from xxxxxx.com (they made it right no need to put them on blast) and 3 out of the 4 have some large markings on the inner lips. They said it was normal, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

2011speed 02-16-2012 01:50 PM

if it doesn't wipe off id be pissed.

Yea it doesn't

2011speed 02-16-2012 01:55 PM

if itsnot wiping off then its def not normal, can u scratch in off with ur nail?. personally i would bring em back and return em.

ASHMS3 02-16-2012 01:55 PM

Not sure I believe that is normal. But, it doesn't look like you will be able to see it after tires are inflated.

cabrone 02-16-2012 01:57 PM

looks a ton like wax or w/e they use as lube. give it some elbow grease and see if you can get it off. Otherwise, take that shit back and demand a fix

It's actual paint missing...this picture should help. The tires are inflated.

mzr0818 02-16-2012 02:03 PM

This. When they mount the tires they will use lube if its a good shop, but old lube on the rollers will leave marks like that on the rim outer edge. It will scratch off but will not just rub off. Light solvent or warm soap and water and elbow grease

Still try to rub off with solvent. Still looks like rubber residue and old tire lube

cabrone 02-16-2012 02:04 PM

It is NOT normal if paint is missing.

Will try some citrus degreaser now...I don't know why their customer service rep couldn't have told me that when I sent them the images.

They offered a return, may just take them up on it if it doesn't come off. Just a pain in the ass and who knows how long until I see that $1500

I would, and buy some properly sized tires while you're at it! Those are way too narrow :slap:

Raider 02-16-2012 02:10 PM

The tire fitment looks stretched too.

You are not gonna herrafrush your MS3, are you?

SamInAustinTX 02-16-2012 02:15 PM

It's missing paint just scrubbed it and nothing. Took a key to it to see if it was like caked on shit and the key made an identical scratch. Not going herrafrush but I do want nice fitment.

On an 8.5" wheel I'd go:

245/35/19 for standard fitment
235/35/19 for a mild stretch
225/35/19 if you want an aggressive stretch

Anything less than that is just friggin retarded IMHO.

That is 225/35 I didn't go wider because I don't want a full on fender pull when I go lower

Boost Addict 02-16-2012 02:26 PM

Looks like scratchings from the arm on the tire mounting machine

mzr0818 02-16-2012 02:27 PM

scratch= take your shit back...

SamInAustinTX 02-16-2012 02:30 PM

They must be reading this. Before they just said send them back but I just got another call asking what they can do to fix the situation. Manager will call in the next hour.

ASHMS3 02-16-2012 02:41 PM

Nevermind, fuck that. Send 'em back.

backward_0 02-16-2012 05:05 PM

that sucks a bag of dicks. At least they are being responsive.

forcedinduktion 02-16-2012 05:09 PM

Yea def an install fail

HARPER306 02-16-2012 05:13 PM

SamInAustinTX 02-16-2012 05:40 PM

So you bought a project?

If using a paint pen for about 30 sec is a project then I guess so. If the tires weren't stretched it wouldn't be noticeable, I figured the same thing would happen next time I get new tires anyways. Plus 19's for the price of 18's isn't bad...

Mizzle 02-16-2012 06:29 PM

You're fucking retarded.

You're the reason why others have such a hard time getting people like these faggots to own-up.

rfinkle2 02-16-2012 06:45 PM

For anyone who comes across this thread and is having a set of wheels mounted, look for a company that uses Hunter "touchless" machines.

Bubba Ho-Tep 02-16-2012 06:49 PM

I had a local Mr.Tire rebalance my BMW 19's, the balance ended up perfect but the wheels were left with tiny chips around the center cap. The idiot pimple-faced teenager that had working on my car used a flat-head to remove the caps.

I raised hell-and they sent an appraiser from their insurance company the very next week and essentially payed for the wheels in full. In other words they paid full price for what the wheels would cost to refinish them, which ended up being the same price of the wheels. So...I essentially got them for free! Not too shabby.

As long as the shop is offering a FULL refund or FULL replacement that's fine. If the "large chunk" back was the only option they offered I'd be pissed.

bigriver 02-16-2012 06:49 PM

Paint pen will make it look even worse. Shouldve returned them and get full refund.

anavrinIV 02-16-2012 07:03 PM

I wouldn't worry about it honestly. The first time you hit a bump and blow the stupid stretched sidewalls off the rims they'll look a hell of a lot worse.

SamInAustinTX 02-16-2012 07:03 PM

I don't understand why some people are getting so angry over this. Yea it's annoying but its only noticeable if you are looking straight down on the rim the same time as the scratch is facing up. They gave me enough money back where I felt I was happy...certainly better than buying used and at the same price. I can run a 235 next time and it wouldn't even be visible. Returning them would have just made me wait a few more weeks and spend a couple hundred more (before they even gave me some money back) because they were the cheapest place to order from by far.

Mizzle 02-16-2012 07:08 PM

Because they should have bought you NEW wheels idiot.

Kydizzle 02-16-2012 07:11 PM

Fucking Clown Shoes...

bigriver 02-16-2012 07:15 PM

OP asks if scratches are normal. Consensus is "no" and return them. Then OP doesnt take advice and gets "chunk of change" and a paint pen.

Just wondering how much is a "chunk of change" or price to make OP "happy". Why not say actual $$. Anyone? Lol.

What wheels do you have?

bigriver 02-16-2012 07:37 PM

Mine were professionally designed by engineers in Japan who have matched the look perfectly with the car, with tires that fit. Oh, and they work for Mazda.

How is that even relevant? if he found scratches after a tire change he'd be demanding money or service from the shop that did it.

and what wheels did YOU get? I like the design...would like to see them on the car. you just need proper sized tires
