Wet weather drivers.... Short Ram or Cool air intakes?

Greetings. I am from the west coast where rain is just something that is expected. I am on orders from Ft. Carson to move to Ft. Lewis, WA next year. I am trying to decided on a short ram or cool air intake for the MS3. For those of you that are over in OR and WA now... what do you suggest?

Stealth01 11-16-2012 09:50 AM

For that climate, SRI all the way.

xxdjfate76xx 11-16-2012 09:53 AM

SRI regardless of environment, read around the site there's a few threads discussing it

Shark 11-16-2012 10:04 AM

Appreciate the insight. I have read around a bunch and it seemed like there was more people with SRI. But I still thought I would check.

Tokay444 11-16-2012 10:06 AM

what the fuck is a cai?

rwelsh 11-16-2012 10:08 AM

Shark 11-16-2012 10:15 AM

I just realized I spelled intake incorrectly. And it looks like CorkSport SRI will be the winner. Now if I could just find someone to help me install and set the sensors....

Check Nator CO and I'm sure someone local will help you out. Shouldn't take long at all, even for me it was easiest install by far. Cs Sri is awesome and I love mine

Shark 11-16-2012 10:20 AM

Yeah, I may be meting with deni and sassyspeed3 in a couple weeks. Everyone seems pretty helpful. I am sure it is easy, but I could probably find a couple ways to make my car blow up during the install lol.

No... But from watching you while you sleep and sneaking into your house to go through your personal belongings/collecting your underwear, I feel confident enough to say that I know you. :yumyum:

:neener:

MazdaBoy2.3 11-16-2012 12:59 PM

The SRI is about as easy an install as they come.

If you buy the combo with TIP, It's a little more difficult.

you could have easily played that off as sarcasm :firedevil:

texasboy21 11-16-2012 06:17 PM

You would have to be in some pretty deep water to run into issues with hydrolock should you choose the CAI. The engine would have to suck the water vertically through the intake's piping, through the turbo, and then through the intercooler all before it gets into the combustion chamber.

Tokay444 11-16-2012 06:31 PM

Yeah, and?
How long do you think it takes for that to happen?

Just a few quick moments of stupidity. :biglaugh:

In those conditions you should not be driving, or choose an alternate route.

Tokay444 11-17-2012 05:26 AM

It takes even LESS time, in more reasonable conditions to short out a maf sensor.

texasboy21 11-17-2012 08:49 AM

MAFs are pretty cheap, especially compared to a new engine.

Stealth01 11-17-2012 08:52 AM

I shorted out the MAF, but that's as far as the water got and the first time in three years of running a CAI.

Tokay444 11-17-2012 08:53 AM

Price out a maf at Mazda.
I'd rather run an Sri. Drive in any condition, and keep the $400 in my pocket.

texasboy21 11-17-2012 09:41 AM

Street unit has them for $200.

Tokay444 11-17-2012 09:59 AM

That's a whole new intake.

texasboy21 11-17-2012 12:05 PM

Lol, like I said earlier different route or stay home.

Tokay444 11-17-2012 03:58 PM

Lol.
"Sorry boss. I can't come to work today. Cai."

Gen2 is MUCH easier to install a CAI than a Gen1, we don't have that panel that pretty much requires removing the front bumper like the Gen1 did...

Tokay444 11-18-2012 10:43 AM

What's a cai?
