Hard wired a Beltronics vector 940 radar detector in the car today. I ordered one of those cheap ebay kits and it ended up the power and ground were touching inside the rj11 head so I trashed it and made one out of a regular old telephone cord.

Might invest in a better radar detector later on like the sold STI driver I used to have.

I've used at least 3 of those ebay hardwire kits personally and I've never had an issue. I've also recommended them to a few people.

I use the ones with the mute button though.

Well as soon as I hooked up the ebay cord it started heating up and you could smell the sheathing melting. I unhooked it and found continuity through the wire with a multi meter. Since I cut the vampire clip off the wire it is no longer warrantied and seller blamed me for a shotty install. You can see threads in the plastic clip touching each other. Oh well it was only a $7 lesson learned.

This is what I use: ESCORT PASSPORT SMART MUTE RADAR Direct Cord Hard Wire | eBay

I put a different push button on the end though because I don't like the one it comes with...

Looks clean! Very nice.

Yesterday I took the 2 mins it takes to unclip the overhead panel and unplugged that stupid ass blue LED that shines down onto the shifter at night. Hated that shit.

Well mine has the phone plug end on it for power so yours might be different but basically you either find or buy a regular old phone cord and cut one end off. There will be 4 strands of wire and only the middle 2 are needed. On my cord, red was power and green was ground. Its that easy.

I purchased a Bussman add-a-fuse thing that you can piggyback off of your fusebox for a power signal and then grounded to the chassis ground right beside of the fusebox.

Yesterday I made a radar detector hard wire kit out of an old phone cord and an add-a-fuse kit from autozone. Excuse my chubby fingers in the picture

I installed my 5k ddm tuning HID kit today. Easy as pie and doesn't require any additional wires/plugs/harnesses or whatver. Haven't seen them at nighttime but I am sure it will be an upgrade to the factory bulbs. I tried to tuck all of the wiring away so nothing is visible.

I love my bel 995, except it's a bit too loud at times.

Cleared the check engine light and made my car run properly again by putting the gas cap back on correctly...

Just finished putting on my first mod. Sure Aeros SRI. Took me about 45 minutes and it sounds amazing! So far so good.

Finally received my 35W 5K DDM kit, holy crap I never would have guessed it would take nearly two full weeks for them to show up. At any rate enough bitching. The install was a casual 30 mins and stupid easy. Results....I'm not convinced it's much of an improvement but one trip around the block isn't a fair test. If ya give a shit I can post up pics tomorrow of where I mounted the ballasts and hid the wiring but I'm sure it's been done before.

I'm not a big fan of it either but I wish I could find plug-n-play red LEDs for the overhead, door and foot well lighting. Otherwise all but the door handle LEDs will be unplugged soon.

Works so far for me.

Left stock amp, connected aftermarket amp to bose subwoofer connection in wheel well in the trunk, connected remote conenction for after market amp to the remote conenction in the stock amp under the seat.

Routed power cable through the hole in the passanger side. Sounds great and its working so far

Lol It's rather simple. Im esssentially piggy backing off the connection that goes from the stock bose amp to the subwoofer on the spare tire. Im connecting those outputs to the input in my aftermarket amp (1000 watt). Ran a remote cable from the stock amp to my amp. ran the power cable from the battery.

This saved me having to take apart the hhead unit. and if I ever wanna remove my aftermarket amp, I can always go back to stock by plugging in two cables.

Deeply contemplated what color to plasti-dip my wheels.....

Blaze orange on a Black Genpu it is. why that color? Because...why not. Just something different. Hopefully I can get it knocked out within the next month or so. I will post pics so you guys can see the look with the orange-black combo. I know someone already did the orange and white, so figured why not go for it

Installed Cobb SRI a couple of weeks ago. This week I installed a corksport RMM, and ordered the JBR Stage 2 shift kit(hopefully it will arrive before the wife returns from a trip lol).

Love the SRI and the RMM. I kinda wish I had ordered the harder duro RMM, but I was scared off by people worrying about vibration. The 70 I got is definitely an improvement, but I barely notice a difference in vibration and wouldn't mind it being more rough.

The JBR kit was chosen as the next upgrade for a couple of reasons. First, the length of the stock throw is annoyingly long. Too often I feel like I'm holding my foot back while I shift for miles. Plus, fixing the "driver problem" seems more advantageous than adding more power. Next logical upgrade is probably an AP, but 500+ bucks is a lot tougher decision than spending money to improve handling/shifting/predictability/reliability.

Let's be real, 99% of us drive these daily and drive spiritedly every once in a while. During said time, I've never once thought "man, if I only had 350 horsepower I would be set"

Drained my OCC for the first time during my oil change, 1200 miles after OCC install.

It's black like used oil, but it seems to have the viscocity of water, almost. Still, I'm glad that stuff never made it back into my intake tract!

Painted my tail lights with VHT night shade. Driver side is fucked. Co worker of mine suggested to use non chlorinated brake cleaner. I already finished the passenger. So I said fuck it I'll try it. Holy shit just looked like it destroyed the light. So it has a few weird spots. Redoing it next week but looks dark as shit.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345172859.888255.jpg

Default RX8's

Today I swapped my factory dunlops over to my new(to me) powder-coated RX8's. I know its a little played out but I love the look of Gunmetal RX8s on a Pu, and I got a really good deal so I went for it. I wish I'd brought a scale because when I was partway through I decided to compare the weight of my stock wheel/tire assembly to the RX8 setup and the RX8's were noticeably lighter. This week I'll be painting the center caps and buying some black lug nuts. Anyway, pics:

I still need to paint the center caps before I can put them on.
And I'm at a Costco in SW Washington.
