Default Headlight restore

Thanks! Yeah, it was a decent kit. I sat and watched that everythingdiy video and she used a different kit of course but I got the necessary information on how to properly get it done. If you use the Mother's NuLens Kit make sure to wear something old that needs to get washed anyway as the sanding residue will get everywhere. I didn't cover enough of my engine bay, as I had the hood open to get the headlight better, and the sanding residue got everywhere. Also, be careful not to stay in one place too much with the drill as I made a small mark on the left headlight that I wasn't able to sand out/buff out. It's barely noticeable but you know how that goes, as owner's we notice everything.

What I actually wanted to do was take the entire headlight assembly out and work on it as the everythingdiy chick did in her video but I just got lazy and didn't want to remove the bumper and all that that entailed. If you have the time, you might consider removing the headlights but it's not necessary. Just make sure to put down some painter's tape all around the headlight. Also, when you get to the bottom corners of the headlights you'll have to remove the sanding pad and do it manually as of course the drill won't allow you to get into that small area. But yeah, after all that's said and done, wipe it down with a super soft buffing cloth and your headlights will look good as new.

I was really surprised that it came out so good. I was really hesitant to do it especially with the sanding because I never did anything like that before and I really was just going to buy some new headlights but I'm glad I went this route and saved some money.

Hope yours turns out just as great or better. Good luck!

Okay so I ordered a kit from Jegs. It is the Hawk HPS 5.0 pads with Sector 27 rotors by Hawk.

Saw the kit got good reviews on other cars, couldn't find too much for our cars.

Jegs? I saw they had deal on that combo.

Those drilled and slotted rotors are not going to improve braking, they might reduce since you'll lose braking surface. The best rotor is those blank rotors.

You should check out KNS Brakes. That's where I got mine, they ship fast and they price match.

Yeah I know they won't perform better, oh well. I don't do anything crazy and would be satisfied with OEM performance.

I used price match on Jegs from Amazon and they accepted it apparently. I'll check them out for sure though. I don't care much about looks and for $162 shipped for the kit I couldn't go wrong (I hope)

That's a good deal on the bundle.

When you're running more power, you'll going to want better stopping power.

Well it's going to be awhile I think. This was the last batch of mods for a minute. For you I'm sure the extra braking power is necessary. Probably won't need anything until I get dp installed/tuned.

Seems like the Sector 27 is a new line from Hawk. I'm interested in their performance and will do a write up since I didn't find anything on them myself.

Yeah, it looks like I go through this type of brakes in a year. Later on, I'm going to change the rear to the same setup.

Same setup as your fronts? Dumb question....same rear rotor size? Or same brand?

Installed a new OEM passenger mount and reinstalled my CFM mount, with 2 pins and the correct bolt this time. Stiffer than the e-focus mount I had but since removing the CPE passenger mount, vibes and noise are definitely down. What is odd is that I'm practically getting just about the same amount of engine movement with less NVH but more clutch feel. Im guessing this must just be my transmission mount then. Also found out the guys who did my oil change didn't tighten the drain plug bolt or the filter tight enough, as a small bit of oil was collecting on top of the splash guard. Last time I go there again.

So my CPE 55 duro PMM is still for sale and already posted on the forums. Also, stripped a nut on the timing cover stud, used one that threaded on but is an 18mm head and not 17mm. I guess i should be fine right?

Total installs for the weekend amount to an oil temp sensor, new Moog endlinks, and RMM. Also got my winter tires mounted/balanced, they look great. I'm ready for snow. Maybe after I get my HPFP internals installed.

Had a bunch of noise and vibration during braking. So i went ahead and replaced the front pads and rotors (centric disks and semi metallic pads). Good as new.

What a day yesterday...installed TurboXS hybrid bov. Cracked the recirc hose, but had a JBR on hand to replace it with. Realized during testing I was only getting 14psi at wot. Put stock bpv back on and still 14 psi. Retuned several times between Cobb Stage 1 and Cobb Stage 1 +SF, no difference. Must be a boost leak somewhere. Little time to check out the car until probably the weekend.

Not trying to be a dick but if its not too late, I'd return the Hawk pads and go with stoptech's. I was less than impressed with the Hawk blue, especially in anything resembling cold weather. Huge fade to bite pedal feel. Hopefully the 5.0s are higher along the product range.

Well they came in today. But Hawk sent me the rear set (purchased thru Jegs) and I'll have to now wait another week for the right set.

I wonder if I should use the Hawk rotors with a different set of pads? Since they're already on the way....

Also Jegs price matched the rotors and pads. for $162 out the door shipped I got the set. Not bad as they are listed at $200+

Got my car back yesterday.

Shop didn't realize that the front grill didn't come painted, when they called Mazda to get color code, Mazda of course couldn't understand what they needed. So body shop improvised, they mixed their own. It's more Grey based VA the stock blue based black and came out a bit darker. I like it.

Also while things were getting painted, I had them go ahead and paint the rear bumper lower section Matte Black to match my Matte Black RX8 wheels.

Now I have to go back to state farm cause the rear hatch window tint has scratches (they made the shop use a "recycled" hatch which came with glass included).

Also dealing with them on diminished value (they tried to tell me they don't do that cause if it was fixed right then there wouldn't be any yeah that's not going to fly - already submitted appraisal with and with out accident showing a lower value after.

When you say wait for the right set, do you mean the front set or just the rear pads you received werent the 5.0s? Mixing and matching pads/rotors shouldnt effect anything other than spawnzorship status

As for my Hawk experience, I'm open to the possibility the shop didnt bed them in properly but so far from my brake pad history, I'll put the Mazda OEMs first, the front specifically for just how much grab they had as it was easy to scrub 15-20k with just a pedal tap, then the StopTech street performance pads and then the Hawks. I ran the Hawks in between two sets of the StopTechs and they rank a low third in my opinion. Hope yours work out for you.

Finally got around to doing the oil change after buying her and low and behold, a good quart over fill. Damn dealerships.

Curious what the transmission oil will be like. Probably bad. Really bad.

I think the service guidelines are wrong. When I got my first oil change the place had it listed as 6 qts I believe or something like that in their system

Yikes. I got mine from a Toyota dealership, so I’m not super surprised at the mess up, but I mean damn. Curious what kind of damage this could cause, so I’m gonna search. I was a little alarmed and I’m babying until I can complete basic maintenance. The turbo felt suffocated and I think there might be some spikes happening. I drove a little tonight and the turbo feels lighter, but I’m still seeing a little spike and feeling one. Gotta look into that, too. My first turbo and all, I’m super paranoid until I’m familiar lol.

**edit**
Just searched and it is in third I’m seeing and feeling this and this is normal. I don’t have an access port, just watching my stock boost gauge for this. But it is indeed normal. Thank goodness! Still looking into that overfill issue.

**edit 2**
Might not have done anything. Wish I knew about checking the dip stick for foam on a warm engine with overfill. If anything, spark plugs need to changed. Can’t check cat and I don’t feel anything wrong with the engine. No shake, rattle, or roll. I think it will be fine. Phew!

My ms3 was misfiring in cylinder 1 (known because of my access port) and i was nervous as hell but I checked my coil pack for the cylinder and saw it wasn't super strong. replaced the coil pack and it was like new, maybe a little stronger even.

I have that exact lift system.

I got the 12V option and use my battery jumper to power it. So I can power it anywhere and it makes working on the car super easy.

Replaced the throttle body coolant lines and did a coolant flush. This of course, was after a pin-sized hole pissed coolant everywhere on the way to work yesterday...

So I repaired a huge curb rash on my xxrs and it came out good. Got a new Uniden R3 radar detector sent to me to replace my defective one. This radar is so damn good. If you are in the market for an undetectable radar with unmatched performance do yourself a favor and get one

Installed an ultimate racing catback to replace my magnaflow catback. Very impressed with UR customer service. I ran into some paypal issues with shipping and stuff, and they went above and beyond to help me out. Great company.

Nice. I just picked up a radar myself this weekend. Escort 9500i with ZR3 laser shifter kit. Trying to get into a Max360 or R3 myself. Maybe escort redline. In TX we don't need undetectable radars but range is a plus.
