My cars AC went out so I took it to a local shop, found out the evap core sensor is toast so I have to wait till Monday for a new one. Been over 95 every day this week.

Then on the way home my high coolant temp light starts blinking and I check the AP, coolant temp was at 240 and climbing...so I limped the car home and nothing in the reservoir. Added almost a gallon of Zerex Asian vehicle blend, burped it, things are back to normal now but there is definitely a leak yet nothing on the ground while the car idles....hope this isn’t a head gasket issue.

Default What did you do to your ride today?

Havenít been on here in a while due to work and being complacent with my car. With that being said, I finally found the wheels I want.

18x9. Only thing is they have a +26 off set. Yes I will roll my fenders.

I looked and found this one with a +30

So question is has anyone ran a +26 offset? Iíve read of +20 needing rolling and pulling but +26 seems an odd number. Any help would be appreciated. I have a slight drop on CS springs.

You would definitely need a roll and pull.

Sorry for the delayed response.

My 16ís donít clear the front caliper, before you get the wheel half on the caliper hits the wheel, may very well have to do with how the wheels are designed. Are you running a Speed3 or Speed6?

Customized OEM battery box and relocated ECU and EBCS to make room for new JBR 3.5Ē intake. Temporary fix until I get a permanent solution. The CS 51r battery box would be great, but Iím not paying $200 + $32 shipping + new battery. Thatíll be a $500 battery mod. F THAT.

Put some solid shifter bushings in. There is barely a difference, but then again i dont have all that many miles on my car. but while i was in there i saw a white plug in on the shifter without anything plugged into it. any idea what that is? obviously some option that my car doesnt have.

If the diameter is different than stock (I've not measured it in years), any change in velocity due to different tube size has been factored into Hypertech's MAF cal for that intake. You and I both have used that effectively for many years. In my case, over 10 years, now.

As long at that section of the intake system is the correct size, the MAF reading will probably be correct. Changing diameter in this section affects volume and thus mass air flow across the sensor. Larger volume means slower speed for the same air mass. Slower speed will adversely affect the accuracy of the voltage signal coming from the sensor.

Aftermarket TIP will not matter, again, as long as the air column back downstream, as it crosses the MAF sensor, is inside a tube section that is either stock size or the size of one of the approved intakes on Hypertech's list.

I have no way of knowing if any of the intake choices by Hypertech coincide with the diameter of the Aeros Full3. I suggest you check with Hypertech. I'm very doubtful that this will be the case, but hope that they can give you a choice that will work.

You are going to max out the K04 anyway with your other mods, so I doubt that intake, even if you can get an accurate, safe MAF cal, will make any more power for you on the stock K04 on pump gas.

I humbly suggest that you really need to do some careful logging if you plan to try this without confirmation from Hypertech that one of their MAF cal choices matches that intake.

So if you remember the hypertech thread where you recommended a compression test and hot oil flush, just had both and my numbers are up a tiny bit - 5psi +- across all four. So the downpipe was going on but no time before work and I'm leaving the intake as you were probably right.

So in other words, thanks again!

Is this ok for the engine? To have the intake filter up top and not somewhere else? I see most go to the wheel well area. Is that just a style or what are the pros and cons?

Air filters in your wheel wells are exponentially worse because of potential splashing from wet roads. They are only done for ďcold air intakes.Ē Mine is a 3.5Ē intake and my air is plenty cooled by my front mounted intercooler and a methanol spray.

Exponentially worse, or merely knocking a different choice to justify your own? Too much unsupported hyperbole methinks, sir!

The Mazdaspeed/AEM CAI was designed by Mazda engineers to fit in an area just in front of open vents in the left front wheel well. It is protected from the bottom by the undertray, front by the left headlight assembly and has a metal splash shield attached.

Ten years of experience running it in a rainy climate validates the low risk. It stays dry.

I posted photos many years ago showing a 30 degree improvement in ambient temps when sitting in traffic at idle for five minutes, compared to under hood temps at the typical SRI location.

There is a reason we dyno with the hood up.

Truth be told, once underway for about 30 seconds temps equalize with either intake. But, during that 30 seconds you are down on power with an SRI. An SRI is fine if you are not daily driving in heavy, slow traffic in the summer. Then, a properly designed CAI makes a lot of sense.

Just like many things in life, a CAI works perfectly fine until it doesnít. I know someone who almost hydro locked his MS3 because he drove through a pretty substantial puddle with his Mazdaspeed CAI during heavy rain. Is it common? Probably not. Does it happen? Yes. Thatís why I said itís risky.

With that said, lowering under hood temps is very possible by other means, such as ceramic coating/heat wrapping hot parts. Also, Iíve not seen a CAI big enough for my BNR S4 v2. Even a 3Ē SRI made it unhappy. Iím pretty sure it requires 3.5Ē or larger to function properly.

+1 for CAI, running the Mazda sanctioned one. No issues for three years, of course I am dubious of mud puddles and other highway reservoirs

Who is this eomeone "you know"? I'd like to talk to him about this "almost hydrolock" incident.

Uh oh, since weíre breaking out the air quotes I guess I should backpedal and clarify there is no such thing as ďalmost hydrolock.Ē There is only hydrolock or just sucking in water, which *might* cause you to hydrolock. But the person who I was referring to was, @emagdnimsrt, who *had* the AEM CAI and just told me about that experience while I was swapping his engine. We switched it out for a SRI during the swap.

Well, did he hydrolock or not? If he did, he had probably stopped and sat still in high water. That's about the only way water would have time to rise up to saturate the filter.

After a few rectal exams/hemroids removed/colonoscopy i seem to have lost the embarrassment that comes with these sort of things in life.
So what did i do to my ride today... I shampooed my seats after sharting mid shift. I have had diarrhea lately and this fart aka shart was so plentiful that it went thru my cotton underwear thru my jeans and straight into my seat. I hope the future owner of my car dosent get linked to this. FWIW woolite spray combined with water and a shop vac does wonders. Now only if i can explain to my neighbor why i was nose deep in my seat making sure the stink was gone. He caught me sniffing the seat like i just gave the hot girl a ride home. Other people do that right.... RIGHT!?!?!?

Took the recaro SPGs from my friends 944 racecar and put it into my 2012 MS3 using wedge brackets. I can't believe how big of a difference it made.

Ebay reflector lights. A lot easier then i thought it would be. Except for the bumper tab that wont hold anymore or the snapped rusted bolts or the need for led turns now that it looks wierd next to a slow bulb. All in all a success.

I broke the bumper tab jumping a curb racing. I jbwelded that shit and it's still holding. I thankfully don't have to remove my bumper.

Maintaining the intake today, I cleaned the MAF sensor and was going to change the air filter, but the computer at the parts store gave me the wrong filter number. It's the one for the regular 4 cyl. D'oh.

Soldered some smd leds to copper tape stuck to a carboard strip. Used plastidip to seal it and you get a 50 cent light strip.

Did led turns, license plate and braklights bulbs in. Screwed the load resistors to the frame and sheet metal with thermal grease. Highly reccomend sylvania led resistors.

Engine stopped the starter from cranking after a few revolutions. Didn't try it after knowing I'd fuck shit up for sure. She runs great now after purging the water and changing oil.
