Hitting 50k soon, since last post:
  • New Wheels\Tires (Konig Rennform 18x8 +45 with 235/40 Indy Firehawk 500 are ~5lbs lighter per corner
  • Installed Corksport TMM Insert + drain\fill with Redline MTL 75w80 & 2oz Motorcraft XL3 Friction Modifier
  • Installed Borla Axleback (easy install, good sound, but fit like crap, ended up having to go to a shop to heat up and bend the hangers into better position to even out tips)
  • Power steering drain\fill with Valvoline Syn ATF

Ran my E33 tune for about 600 miles (amazing) but am waiting to switch over to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 to run it long term since I have read mixed info on running Rotella with ethanol. Thoughts?

After almost a year of ownership I can say that an upgraded RSB and short shift plate are the biggest bang for buck daily driver mods. Thanks for all the knowledge guys, looking forward to another awesome year with the MS3.

More like what I can't do in my ride today.

Almost everyday .. at some point I need to go full boost .

Now I discovered that my fanbelt has some small pieces missing, needless to say I can't go into boost until a new replacement belt arrives.

It's been 4 long days of not boosting and the wait is surely killing me.

Not a happy camper.

That's the reason why I keep an old belt handy. Never know when you could need it.

I installed a new downstream o2 and replaced the rear sway bar bushings. Between a loose spoiler and those bushings it was driving me crazy.

Not sure but that would be the ultimate swap. The seats in the fk8 Type Rs are the most comfortable things to ever grace my booty cheeks

I have a type r FN2, Ill probably remove the seats on both car and see how much mods is involved, and if it is doable, I'll probably buy and fit them. Your right Bertospeed3 they are super comfy and they hold your booties so well on tight corners.

Not today, but recently (1/25/19), sold my beloved '08 Speed 3 to another younger forum member. Bought the car new in May, 2008 and have owned and enjoyed it greatly for 136,000 miles and more than ten years.

It was bittersweet to let it go, but I have a different daily driver, now, and don't have the time to maintain it going forward as it deserves.

I'll probably hang around for a bit.

I saw another thread where someone modified the OEM shroud to fit an ETS TMIC, I'm a big fan of the look. Might source a donor shroud to modify so I still have mine if the time to stock out ever comes.

Thanks, I looked and couldn't find a thread so I hoped it would look okay, i think it turned out okay and kinda sticks with my stock like appearance. Got a few other things to tidy up like hiding the methanol hose/painting the vc breather/move the ebcs to the battery box.
I normally use carguys plastic restorer, it's the best stuff I've ever used on plastic/rubber. In this photo I used original armor all, I am out of the carguys stuff.

  • Damond OCC (Stage1 VTA) - had to slice the factory hose to get it off the pcv!
  • Damond EGR delete
  • JBR throttle body TIG & coolant bypass (deleted the second hose instead of using the barb)
  • JBR boost tubes \ bpv hose
  • Corksport BPV
  • Homelink rear view mirror (found a used gntx-453 off ebay for $30, OEM install kit 0000-8C-L31A for $23)
  • Independent fog light mod (connect BCM grounds with t-taps)
  • 6k LED H11 bulb fogs \ 6k LED 194 bulb "Nagare" parking lights

Also assembled my front Bilstein B8 struts on Eibach Pro springs w\Ford mounts&bearings... BUT the rear shock backorder was pushed from March to May.

Last weekend I stocked out a friends gen 2. He gave me a 2k mile old set of BC racing coilovers (for my stock suspension) and a set of Evo X rims with some unknown tire.
I installed the coils yesterday and today I put in my tr1035 with cx piping today. It turned out pretty good, just got to finish up final fitment and adjust the centering.

Earlier in the week I got rid of the El Cheepo Goodride 225/40 18 tires .. Replaced all four with Falken Azenis FK510 235/40 18' .

Wow what a surprise , car feels much more stable in tight turns and at speed.

Even torque steer seems less.

Very pleased with how they perform.

I made a DIY Ethonal gauge and a custom gauge pod. I was always pissed off no one made a gauge pod setup on the center dash like the gen ones so after making the gauge i ordered a used ebay center dash piece for 25$( the part where the center channel speaker mounts to) and fabbed it up.

First i had a atmel 328p chip laying around so i got to some coding and bought my self a 30$ Flex Fuel sensor off of ebay

Next i made a circuit board on a round pcb to fit in a junk gauge i found. took some voltage regulators and used the gauge body as a heat sink. Then used a extra OLED screen i had from another project.

I made a faceplate out of oaktag and put a shift light in it. A good coat of plasti dip to finish it off.

Next i took the speaker grill for the center channel speaker and covered it with vinyl wrap and took 2 glow shift universal gauges and epoxied them in. Pretty simple im surprised no one else does this.

Then last but not least a ghetto install of the sensor.

The finished result. The other gauge pod has a junk prosport in it not hooked up. I just stuck it in there to make sure it is at a good angle. A oil pressure gauge will find its way in that one. The led is for a shift light because i was like why the fuck not. in the future i will hook it up to the meth pump as a activation lite.

today I found an interesting article about fixing the plugs, will try in few days. If someone is interested in details on how to repair spark plugs, you can also read the article.

No. You found an article on how to fix a car's spark plug WIRES. Since we have coil-on-plug coilpacks, that has absolutely no bearing on this platform.

Nice work!
Do you know if most of ethanol sensor use the same signal scaling on frequency and ''On'' time duration for temp ?

Do it request fuel flow or it could work just by being drop in a bucket of fuel to read the content ?

It probably already exist but just in case, what about using a 2 channel input device to read E content and MAF, Do some math to scale an output signal proportional to MAF + (E content factor) like one would do with doing a specific maf call for corn but constantly self adjusting to create a Flexfuel speed ?

I believe all of the flex fuel sensors out there use the same 50-150 hz output. The pulse length my be up to the manufacture but it should all be linear since it is digital. Measure the pulse length at 20 below to 180 and interpolate the data . With that you can generate a equation that can be put into your code.

It measures the conductivity of the fuel so it shouldn't require fuel flow just immersion in the fluid with no air bubbles.

I am not sure what you meant by the last comment. I can say that the ATMEL chips have analog and PWM inputs so you can read maf, map, o2 voltages ect and output anything you want. I believe what you are getting at is use the ATMEL to read maf voltage and increase the signal by the percent of the ETH value? As in if it reads E10 do nothing or if it reads E85 increase the maf voltage by a factor of 1.3? Yea it can be done but the atmel is to slow tbh at that point its sort of like a stand back.

Exactly that, having something to trickle the maf signal according to ethanol content and having the speed ecm to just pick the right amount of fuel needed would be nice for corn users....Instead of having different tunes for different content they could trickle the same tune externally...

Maybe your Atmel could read ethanol and output a voltage signal to be added to maf signal by an Op-Amp summer circuit. That may react fast enough regardless of your atmel speed....?
The only bad thing i could see is the loads will follow the maf increase calling for less timing with more corn ....Counter productive maybe....?

It is just an open mind thinking because i don't use corn.....We only get it blended to our low quality fuels around here. We never know how much, and when there is too much, it can affect our small carburetor engines jetted for E0. A device like yours could be a tool for users or small engines mechanic guy....

Personally, I use W/M and this could work also...i could cheat the maf signal according to how much meth i poor into the intake. In that case, i would be reducing signal the more i add meth. Reduced load would go in the same direction of the cooling effect of the W/M...

I'm more used to industrial plc than micro-electronic and i wonder if a scan rate of 3-4 miliseconds would be too slow ?

I have well over 1000 miles on it by now (commute daily) so I'd say its pretty broke in. It actually feels great, i was very surprised at the lack of pedal effort. Something about how the fingers of the PP are leveraged to increase clamping force without increasing pedal effort. Its.. dare i say, softer than stock.. to the point where I thought something was wrong. Bled the F out of the slave and got it as firm as it would get. Haven't had a single issue thus far. Very grabby but also very streetable. I will say it does suck in 4mph traffic though, especially with the AC on. I'm sure I've had quite a few people thinking it was my first time driving stick. Also logged a handful of pulls with it and it seems pretty solid. Between this and the 255 Nittos there's no slips or spins of any sort when logging.

It's an XClutch ceramic twin disk. WAY overkill for my current setup, but I wanted to take the future proofing route. It should hold up to anything I want to throw at it down the road. So far its great for being pretty much the cheapest twin disk available for our cars. The components of the kit itself seemed to be of good quality and well made. We'll see how it holds up over time.

dude thanks for your input on this clutch, i actually installed one too, but my car isnt running yet, and the pedal after bleeding it more than 200 pumps is SOFT like hella soft miata stock clutch soft???? , i thought something is wrong since i have new slave and master cylinder and bleed the hell out of it even putting long hose to reservoir from slave lol

and Xclutch isnt that popular so having to see someone have the same pedal feel and saying its working makes my mind at peace lol
