What makes the Mazdaspeed 3 Awesome?

ill have to echo everything said in this thread so far.. ive owned a 2010 genpu and now a 07 ms6.. the speeds are by far, the most bang you can get for the buck.. coupled with the best community, and also very tight knit relationships with several quality vendors, its hard not to go with the speed.. if you figure in the sleeperness of the speeds, you cant go wrong.. i would also look into low mileage ms6's and gen1 ms3's.. had i known about this forum and more about the platform, thats what i wouldve done the first time..

I've owned my 2010 since August 2009. There are a few reasons I bought it over the other comparable options:

-I'd wanted a Mazdaspeed3 since it was released in '07.
-Price - power ratio.
-Rarity (don't see nearly as many Speeds as I do WRX's, GTI's, SI's, etc.).
-Needed to haul stuff.
-Tech package (and Bluetooth) sold me when I looked at the '10, since I had originally wanted an '09 GT with nav.

Only thing that sucks is that the HID headlights and LED tails weren't available until this year. Oh, and the seats aren't nearly as nice as the gen 1's.

BTW, my friend bought a 2011 GTI with every option under the sun (leather, nav, premium sound, etc.) and it's awesome. The seats feel even better than the gen 1 MS3's. Plus, for a $600 chip reflash, it'll be comparable to the MS3 in power. He paid around 26K for it, which is what I paid for my car (yeah, I got screwed since it was the first 2010 on the lot, and the first one purchased in the Northern VA area).

I got this car after I crashed my old '04 Tiburon and it was time to get a car with a little bit more room. I was looking at new v6 mazda 6's and used MS6's. When I checked the Mazda site for my local dealer and I came across the '10 MS3 and was curious so went for a test drive. Never thought I'd get this style of car, but I love it. The aftermarket platform is better than my old car and it's a blast to drive (even though my friends who still own tiburons make fun of the Gen 2 smile, but I can actually smoke all of them so all they see is the back bumper anyways haha.) It's nice to have a car with some room and not feel cramped in it. I got the car with more room and still has some balls to back it up.

^^This is what made me get the MS3. I've had the car for over a year and a half and I still only see 2 other ones in my area (and neither one of them are black mica). Nice to have a car not everyone else has.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. Once I get back into town I think I'm gonna pull the trigger. The MS3 is just so much more exciting than the GTi, and honestly I don't mine the eternally grinning styling. It's an awesome car, what's not to smile about?

I got mine because I liked Mazdas so it made sense to get the best Mazda available.

Don't get me wrong, the smile sometimes gets on my nerves especially in direct sunlight and facing the car head on. But most of the time I actually like the way it looks. It's just so different in styling than other stuff out there, must have taken some balls for this design to be pushed through to production. At least it shows that Mazda wants to stand out...mission accomplished because everyone I talk to knows the smiley face car.

That said, imma get the insert painted to match the bumper one of these days.

People have done it on all 4 colors.
Black looks the best, but there isn't much difference in the colors anyway.

I can't decide if I like it or not. It is nice to have some contrast.

Worked at a Subaru dealership before my job in the Fire Service. We had the only AWD dyno in Florida, did tons of performance work to customers cars, etc.

I went to the MS3. WRXs are blah and STis cost way to fucking much. Plus the Subaru interior is just so cheap.

This forum I think is better too. I used to frequent NASIOC or I-Club or whatever it is this week. More ball busting here (which im used to from the Navy and the Fire Department) but once you weed through the shenanigans there is solid info here with people willing to walk you through any task.

I got the tech package and love it. The pushbutton start is cool as hell and the navi works fine for me. If you can't see the screen you need glasses. The blose stereao isn't the best but I figured if I want to upgrade having 10 speaker holes from the factory would make it easier to upgrade. The HID headlights attact more bugs then a bus load of whores but work well. After negotiations it only added about $1500 over non tech.

black on black looks good.. but i agree it doesnt look the best head on.. need some kind of angle.. OP, do you have to buy new? I still think a low miles CWP 08.5 or 09 would be tits.. gearing is shorter, which makes it funner to drive around town imo.. and we all know no one can stop the ms3 from a 40roll..

You are correct. While I've seen other Ms3's at the local car meet, out on the street I have seen maybe 1 other, but I see kids driving GTI's and Civic si's on every corner.

Honestly, in my area, all i see are STI's, EVO's, civic's, or mustang's. The only other 3's i see are regular 3's and its usually a hot chick driving them lol.

a 600 dollar reflash on a gti will not get u close to power wit a speed 3. U need a reflash/downpipe/intake/reflash (stage2) to be close in power. and actually from what i heard after 100, the speed will still pull since their stock k03 is a POS

Got mine- best bang for the buck out there at the time. I looked at GTI, Civic SI and BMW 1 series. BMW 1 series too expensive, GTI too expensive and expensive maintenance especially with the DSG. MS3 is plain faster than 2006-2011 SI. New 2012 SI is nice though the MS3 still beats it to 60 but only by a few tenths of a sec.- if you can get a good launch. I also had a 2010 WRX it guzzles gas, rev's high on the highway and tops out quick, fast as hell to 60 though and easy to launch. I got 18-21 MPG with it, I get 28-29 with my new MS3.
