Cool What MPG Do You Get?

so, I been driving my ms3 for 2 months with 38k.

Mods.
Cobb SI
CNT Catback
Autotech pump internals
Light weight flywheel
Turbosmart bov.

surprisingly I'm averaging 32.3 mpg when I'm driving around town with moderate stop and go. and 30mpg at highway @70mph. I thought the info center has some problem but I calculated each time and it was spot on.

anyone else?

About 19.5 mpg, 70% City driving. Rarely get into boost unless I'm cruising above 3k.

I get about 23-25mpg averaged out with about 90% of that being "city". I only get on the highway maybe once a week at best.

Make sure to calculate your MPG by hand and not go by the on-board computer display, since it usually reads about 3-5 mpg higher

I get about 27 mpg with 80% of that is highway around ~80mph

I also doubt that you're getting 32 MPG with city driving. LOL

I'm getting around 24-26 with mostly highway driving. I've been meaning to go for straight fuel economy on a full tank to see what I can get but my car is just too fun to beat on now that I'm rocking my Freektune. I want try not going above 65 on the interstate and no WOT pulls for a full tank of gas to see what I get for fuel economy. I usually drive like 80-85 on the interstate and go WOT multiple times a day.

24+ mpg city...but my city traffic is not hardcore rush-hour stand-still. I've seen as high as 26 city but that's rare. My average in year 1 was 24.2

Haven't had my car for over a month now (fucking body shop needs to hurry up!), I rarely drive on the highway (work<5 miles from home) and go WOT as often as possible with this shitty long island traffic and I usually get around 17-18... been as bad as 15.5. That being said, I didn't buy the car for the gas mileage and when I took it up to Buffalo(~450 miles) I was rocking around 35mpg

Or your calculations are off. And your "city driving," what does it consist of? Driving mostly 55 with no traffic signals?

Going by the on board display, I get about 23 city/30 highway. I'll have to get the fuelly app again and calculate it that way.

Nice. Looks like you've gone up since the Beginning of May. I get about 27-28 mpg for long road trips, wish I could hit that 29 though! Or higher....

Anyways, I average 25.3mpg with moderate city driving. I'll get 33mpg on the highway

Over 60k miles or so I've averaged 23-25 mpg with maybe a 40/60 mix of highway/city driving. I live in LA, so highway driving isn't really highway driving most of the time. Highways here are just surface streets without lights.

Of course, entering highways at WOT doesn't help, but that's about the only place you can get on it in the city without being interrupted by flashing lights in your rearview mirror.

Yep, it is switched from Winter to Summer blend = more MPG

When I get 22ish it is during my daily commute. If I add hwy driving into it, I can get it to 24+ easily.

Pretty cool program.

I've used Fuelly.com off and on. It's pretty cool for comparing to others.

On a sidenote.... I'm amazed that this "What's MPG" thread hasn't been shut down. Ha. Seems the last few times anyone started one it was pretty quick to get to the bashing and the thread dying... ... what is this Mazdas24/7 ? Jk.

Yeah I was using Fuelly but found I didn't update it as I should since it was too difficult to log in while at a station and what not. Found this app and it imported my Fuelly info and is simple to update right after filling up.

Just downloaded the free version, tried using fuelly too, but like you said it's too difficult logging in on the fly plus. Can't wait to have my car back so I can actually use the app lol...

Here is my fleet of cars.

As you can see my MS3 is averaging about 22 mpg and 75% of those miles were with a 33% blend of e85.

I have been using acar for tracking all my cars for a while. It is pretty robust and with pro it is easy to back up all your data and export for further analysis.

Yep, really easy to log the info right after you fuel up. Takes me about 10-15 seconds(and that's with opening the app - you can even have a widget on your screen to enter stuff in without opening the app)

I was wondering if there was a widget for it, just hadn't had time to look. Will definitely be using the widget for entry though because if the app isn't on the home screen it will take me forever to find it haha.

Plus just found out I'm getting my car back tomorrow so good timing with the app i guess

If you can't, then you're either going too fast, you're on a corn blend, or something is wrong. If I can average ~31-32mpg on road trips @ ~72mph, using 93, then you should be able to do better still in your MS3.

I average a pretty consistent 20-22mpg every tank. That's roughly 90% city/stop-and-go hwy and 10% open hwy. It also includes frequent WOT when I get a long ramp or open chunk of road.

Yep, on my pics above, my last MPG was this Saturday going from Denison, TX to Tulsa, OK to OKC, OK. From Denison to Tulsa was roughly 70-75mph and from Tulsa to OKC was more like 85+ and I even did some 4th and 5th gear pulls to redline in there.

Maybe I have too much fun.. Lol. I was rocking about 78-79 this weekend on the way home from Seattle and got 27.2 mpg. Did about 65 miles of it with a brand new Focus ST driven by some chick who was singing everytime I looked over. We played leapfrog the entire way.

Yeah, our fuel efficiency drops off pretty rapidly after 70mph or so. :-/ It sounds like a fun trip, all the same! Incidentally, for those of you who are interested, there's this whole thread on tuning for fuel economy AND performance: MPG Tooning with ATR

Hilariously enough on the road trip I just took, my gf filled my car up with 87 and I didn't find out until we got home.

Anyway, we averaged 31mpg at 70-75mph, and just for shits and giggles, I did a WOT pull (carefully watching KR) to see what the impact was. The results were somewhat surprising, and not-surprising at all. I lost a fair bit of power over my 93 tune (~230whp instead of ~285whp, and ~285wtq instead of ~335wtq), but there was no noticeable knock.

Well the manual says you can run 87 in emergency situations and the Focus ST(based of our motor) can run any octane fuel so aside from losing power and possibly KR there really is no problems running 87octane.

Well the manual says you can run 87 in emergency situations and the Focus ST(based of our motor) can run any octane fuel so aside from losing power and possibly KR there really is no problems running 87octane.
I'm aware. If you look in ATR, there's a low-octane set of parameters (I believe it pulls a bunch of timing, and some other things), if non-premium fuel is used. That said, I found it interesting that the KR was nonexistent, and it still made decent (but not great) power.

87 octane fouled my plugs pretty bad. But no knock... just sputtered here n there.

then again, could have been bad fuel AND 87.... which I thought was on in the same. lmao
