What part of my car did I bend :( ?

First attempt with jack... did not go so well. Decided to put it away after it slipped a little. :SI noticed that this part feels like it is bent slightly compared to the other side. Is this slight bend a big deal? Is the car compromised? What is this piece that is bent? http://i49.tinypic.com/vnm4hf.jpg

Monotonous ONE 07-27-2012 05:54 PM

HOLY FUCK NO NOT THAT

kritz 07-27-2012 05:57 PM

Throw it away and get a new one, don't worry about it dude!

dpolseno41 07-27-2012 06:00 PM

I've bent shit all over my chassis. I've done worse than that so you're alright!

fishin53 07-27-2012 06:11 PM

eh fuck it its just a car

rfinkle2 07-27-2012 06:11 PM

No sweat man. That isn't going to hurt a thing.

Check out the owners manual for proper jack points.

@ the risk of saying the obvious, NEVER get under a car without jack stands.

dantes5823 07-27-2012 06:16 PM

I will never ever ever get under a car without jack for no period of time.

cham87 07-27-2012 06:18 PM

Thanks... Phew. What piece of the car did I bend? Is it the frame? It is a mild dent in whatever I circled in green. Not sure what part of the car it is.. I feel awful about it

2k4_8 07-27-2012 06:27 PM

It's just the pinch weld and any standard jack will do it. Option 2 is to put a thinnish piece of wood on the jack plate (if you have one wither a circular plate). That GENERALLY prevents it from bending bit not always. As said always use stands. I don't even have to look at the pic to know what you did and its no big deal.

If that is the worst that ever happens to the car, you will be in great shape.

That is more of a protective piece of metal than anything structural.

I went under the car recently without jack stand supports.

It was on ramps :)

You bent the transverse dorsal counter balancing member support flange.

cham87 07-27-2012 07:47 PM

Once again. Thanks for the replies everyone. I am glad I did not fuck the car up. I am also sad that I cannot jack my car up that I was excpecting to be able to mod. I had all my tools ready for the RMM install but couldn't get it in the air so no install. How will I do my oil changes -_-.. Feeck. I must be an idiot.

Um...yep! :loser: (Welcome to the club.)

I shove my jack as far as it'll go straight back from the very front of the car, directly under the license plate, until it's under the front crossmember (behind the plastic undertray and clear of the oil pan). Jack it up until I can get jack stands under the cutouts of the pinch welds along both sides of the chassis behind the front wheels. Others do one side at a time, but I find that takes too long.

Seriously, though, make sure you have jack stands. They're like $20.

Too long? It takes like 30 seconds to get around the other side of the car and jacking it up takes another 20 or 30.... I guess some people would rather save 2 minutes and possibly have the car slide off or be damaged? :wtf:

cham87 07-27-2012 08:58 PM

Is there a video of someone jacking up their speed3 on youtube ^_^ or better yet -- could there be? :D

Fair enough, point taken. I find that it takes longer, how's that?

Roddiy 07-27-2012 09:04 PM

I just shove my jack as deep as I can, I lifted the car up with the jack on the Exhaust Midpipe once.

NOT.

But don't worry OP, you didnt bend anything important, but look for the proper jack points next time.

AND ALWAYS USE JACKSTANDS!!!

Guess that's pretty accurate lol. Only reason I pointed it out was that with all the n00bs we have been getting, some dumb fuck is gonna try that shit on the belly pan, oil pan, gas tank, etc...

Really? Another case of RTFM.

Step by step.

Go out to your car.

Open the door.

Open the glove box.

Open it to the index (It's in the back)

Look under T for tire

Find 'flat tire'

Go to that section and it GIVES the jacking point.

Or you could just look under the car for the slightly cutout section in the front or back and put the jack there....not trying to be a dick, but it's something you should know owning a car. What happens when you get a flat in an area without cell service or some shit?

cham87 07-27-2012 10:10 PM

How to: Find Floorjack and Jackstand points

Voltron 07-28-2012 10:21 AM

Wow. Did you really make a thread for this? Is this your first car?

CaptObvious75 07-28-2012 10:51 AM

I've never known anyone named Stand...but I did know a jack once, and he did kill someone (in self defense). :D

uncorked11 07-28-2012 05:04 PM

Just get ramps, and a chock block

I<3Groceries 07-28-2012 05:30 PM

The last time I went under the car without jack stands, I died.

Thanks man, ya I am for sure going to get ramps. They will be good for everything but tire rotation. Do I need the blocks? Cant I just use wood/e-brake/keep in gear while turned off and posted up on the ramp?

emag remrofni 07-28-2012 06:59 PM

God Pu owners are the stupidest people on the planet. What is it about the GenPu that attracts the biggest retards??

Its creepy smile matches my goofy smile as I watch cartoons and play with the bunnies.

A 2X4 is fine in lieu of a chock block.

Get you some ramps from advanced auto or pepboys. Like 30 dollars and work like a charm.

ms3rick 09-08-2012 08:30 AM

I would say Ifail2, but at least he owned up to it.

Domino81 09-08-2012 08:33 AM

I have a large 3-ton jack with a large jack mount and a jack pad to help spread out the load.

cbspd3flip 09-08-2012 08:49 AM

Fail is strong with this OP....

Why was there no anal raping in this thread? I'm disappointed lol....

Fermion 09-08-2012 09:12 AM

If he doesn't know how to use a jack, I wouldn't recommend ramps. Can't wait for the next thread where he drove off the front of them and fked something up

Stealth01 09-08-2012 09:12 AM

Old-ish thread gets revived-ish.

OP, don't play around with jacking the car up. Go buy a decent Jack ($40), some jack stands ($20), and use something as a chock behind the rear wheels. And jack using the proper points, per your owner's manual. Your car won't be much good to you sitting on your crushed skull and shattered rib cage.

I have a 3-ton jack and two stands with no issues, and my car's 400lbs heavier than yours.

Mclovin80 09-08-2012 10:05 AM

I put a hydraulic jack through the floorboard of my old CRX and filed the hole with two part epoxy putty. Based on your picture I don't think you did anything serious.

fortressofcomfort 09-08-2012 04:34 PM

That's a good point about chocking the rear wheels. I always do it when my car is on ramps but I guess not everyone does. Do it. Just use a brick or something.

Now, how many of us have tried to back down the ramps after an oil change and been like wtf? And then we remember the chocks. Duh I musta done that 5 times before it became habit.
