I'm replacing my 2004 3s hatch with a 2012 Speed3 this week and I just hit the 39 mark... I feel 25 though if that counts!

37. 2012 just bought.

I always thought I would be the greyhair here, but looks like I'm not. It's a fun and practical car, and priced very well.

44 when I bought my 2011. I do not consider it a midlife crisis since it has 4 doors and I'm not inconveniencing my kids. Now if it was a midlife crisis, I'd have bought a 2012 Camaro ss 6 speed convertible.

I'm 30 and I just picked mine up last month. First new car for me, traded in an IS300 for it, wanted something fun that I could load things up into.

I had been planning on getting a small SUV forever, one test drive in the speed and it was all instantly banished.

Got it a couple weeks after I turned 19. Had a 2005 mazda3 hatch that was my first car, that I got in 2007 right when the MS3 came out. Always drooled over it, traded in the mazda3 got 8k for it, put down cash, and picked up a 250$ a month car payment.

I got my 08speed3 in march of 2010 for $16,500 with 18k miles, and now I have a little over 92k miles. Yeah I like it that much.

Worked my ass off since I was 15, once I turned 16 made 10 an hour.. I had my mazda3 paid off before I graduated high school, wasn't a big socialite. When I turned 18 I was a personal care attendant making around 15$ an hour after taxes..worked 3 12 hour days while going to school for business. Then I dropped out of school, worked more..now I'm not working and just in school, however living at fucking home.

I did it all on my own thank you very much, I'm 21 now btw, 22 next Feb

EDIT I paid 16.5. My car payment is 250 which IMO is fairly low

When you're living at home, having a full time job with no bills can make it possible. Her may have paid for the car, but I'm sure parents helped him in some way.

I'd say in situations like this it's okay for parents to help out, as long as it's not a free ride.

I paid $16.9, mine is $220... with a lot down from my father leaving me some money from the sale of my grandfather's house after he passed. It's the only reason I can afford it. But I guess that's my own fault for continuing to tolerate a shitty job.

If my kids need to live at home for a little while after college or during the summers, I will have no problem helping them out.

That said, the thought of buying a new or "nice" car while getting free/discounted rent and bills had better not ever cross their mind. If they can afford a new car, they can afford to be out living on their own.

This whole "I worked hard to pay for this car" followed by "but I live at home" logic is comical. Grow up.

I dunno, I bought my rx8 at 20 by myself bit back then I had rent and 2 small credit cards.....its possible since that was 22k. Got my 2010 in early 11 for around the same, now I'm 26....so its doable but let's face it, most kids aren't responsible enough to be money smart and afford one let alone drive a car like it lol

^Lol @bvbull200 ..I moved home because of personal shit going on with my family that was taking a toll, not finances. And they're not buttheads like you, and let me..I offered to pay rent, and they wouldn't let me because there my parents, not the land lord. I buy just about all my own food/clothes. I've been responsible with my money, when I read rich dad poor dad when I was younger it made a lot click. My parents are fairly well off and wanted to make sure I was financially literate. I had a fatty savings account until lately, then my car broke and I ran into legal shennanigans and lawyers aint cheap. I don't feel the need to justify anything cuz haters gonna hate!

You probably won't be fond of when I BT the car by the time I'm 22 will ya

Would you rather your kids go into the real world with financial knowledge? Or would you rather them get a place/car on their own with no earthly idea what they're doing?

kids with parents that help them are helping them with knowledge (hopefully), not with a free ride. When I was at home I earned my "rent" doing chores around the house.

"grow up", yeah; that's what they're trying to do, sir.

I don't know if you are arguing for my point or against it.

Of course I'd want them to be financially responsible. That is the point.

If my kid falls on hard times and needs some help, I'll be the first to open my home. Buying a car that is in the "want" category, rather then "need" category isn't what I'd call "financially responsible", though. Need a car? Get something cheap, clean, and reliable, then save your pennies until you are back on your feet and able to move out. Afterwards, if you find yourself in a position to get what you really want, then go for it.

What does the cost of lawyers have to do with it? You said it had nothing to do with finances.

So your car payment "is" $250 but you're not working. Who is making your payment?

Kid, you may think you're doing it on your own but you're not even close. That 2005 MZ3 you had, you were 16 and driving a new car. You didn't get that because of hard work.

That car you later sold for the down payment on your MS3. Yeah, that was your parents.

Even if you were paying the note on the MZ3, I'm betting it wasn't in your name and you didn't come up with the down payment at 16.

You might want to get a little perspective.

44. Bought mine in March. This is my 3rd Mazda. This one was a gift to myself after my child support payments went down. Wife loved it when I first got it, but now she hates it because I spent $2500.00 in mods from March when I bought it 'til May. And I'm STILL modding it.

Don't mean shit. You drove it for all of....a year. Be careful. You sound like a statistic waiting to happen.

You might want to get a little perspective.
jeez a lot of hate going on here. My parents bought the car, and I PAID THEM back in monthly installments for the mz3, yeah I'm lucky for that. The car was a 2005 and I paid 200 a month for 5 years. I had a lot more money than that so I paid them back in 2 years, before I graduated high school in 09.

I've lived in shitty apartments, on the shitty of end of town and never have paid more than 450 for rent.

I moved home with a lot of money. I did not need to move home because of finances but did because of shit going on. Then about 2 months ago I got pulled over with bud, my parents were going to kick me out unless I got a lawyer, so between the lawyer and around 2 grand in car parts, I'm broke as fuck and I'm trying to find a job.

I've ultimately fronted the whole bill, and instead of being a jerk off in high school I did work and I prioritize.. instead of having a smart phone and eating out and all sorts of bull shit, I put my money into the speed3.
