Whats you mileage....ON E85 3/9, 50/50???

I am going the corn route so trying to get a feel for how many miles people been running it and what side effects if any come up.

08cosmic3 03-26-2013 08:05 PM

Large grin is my only side effect. If you're stock you'll need around $1500 worth of mods/tune to take advantage of the corn.

mr.speedy3 03-26-2013 08:08 PM

MPG average for me is ~25mpg for me on the freeway IF my foot isn't made out of lead every day.

Side effect: your foot is made out of lead everyday.

However... first and foremost, stop being stock and upgrade internals and get an AP before you run corn.

Corn alone won't really get you gains, especially with no AP.

And to add onto the guy above me, corn with no tune is a no-go. Is there even a point?

mrshoulders 03-26-2013 08:11 PM

Yeah i have to update my sig, Got sri/tip autotech internals, cs test pipe and ap. From all the reviews people give e85, i can not wait!

Mikey 03-26-2013 08:13 PM

um corn and gas millage don't go good together.. Moar Powar

mrshoulders 03-26-2013 08:16 PM

Damn i worded the thread wrong. What i meant was how many miles on your car with corn.

TheFlash 03-26-2013 08:18 PM

Already a thread in this bro. Go check the E85 section

My biggest issue if finding some where that sells corn, but I suggest getting with one of the e tuners first and get a good 93 tune going then once you get that dialed in then work on the e 85 tune.

jseams 03-26-2013 08:25 PM

I get about 18mpg mixed driving city and hwy on a 50/50 mix...

If I'm heavy on the foot though that can and does go to about 14mpg. lol

I got 175 miles out of my last tank.

However, I'm paranoid about the black death - so I run a tank or two of straight 91 on a pump gas freektune after every two tanks of E. (yes, I know that 50/50 and less mixes don't typically have this issue)

I'm going to pull my pump after 5K and see how clean it looks doing this.

edit: oh, another "side effect" many people eventually suffer from is a shorted fuel sensor in the tank. Ethanol is hygroscopic and miscible and attracts and absorbes water - so instead of floating on top of the gas in your tank, it's all throughout the fuel mix... and the contacts for our fuel sensor are steel and will eventually rust. Some folks drop the tank and put silicone over the connectors to prevent this... or just buy a new one once it fries.

There is corn right down the street from me so that would be no issue. I am going to go with the freektune since he gets really good praise and is somewhat local to me.

I picked up 60 whp and 75 lbs of TQ with 20% and a tune from Stratified Tunning. @Lex; Best bang for the buck you will ever get out of this car.

PUGENE 03-27-2013 04:40 AM

Not sure about exact MPG's, but 12 gallons of 93 gets me ~330 miles, 4/8*** mix and I get ~230.

Edited because I run 4/8 not 3/9...

865ms3 03-27-2013 05:20 AM

ive been on 50/50 for about a year now. no problems. it is VERY addictive.

~18mpg normal driving on 50/50 (ive seen 12-14)
~22mpg on my gas tune

TheRealDefman 03-27-2013 08:31 AM

I get about 19 mpg combined driving on 50/50 mix.

CWP_MS3 03-27-2013 08:36 AM

I get around 20mpg mixed driving. And by mixed I mean easy on the gas + asshole WOT moments.

As far as side effects, I have heard of a few people having their Fuel Level Senders go out on their fuel pump. So its not necessarily a bullet proof thing... @brandonf;

NICKELL666 03-27-2013 08:37 AM

I get about 230-260 on 50/50. 330-400 on 93. Just depends on my driving. I normally go pretty easy unless some soccer mom wants to try and pull on me

I get 21.8 MPG with a 25% mix.. 3/9.. That's 50+ miles a day on a hwy with tons of lights and a lot of WoT.

brandonf 03-27-2013 09:56 AM

220 - 250 miles per tank, ~17.5 - 18mpg is the average, but I need to maf cal.. will help the mpg a little bit.

My fuel level sensor bit the dust after ~9 months of 50/50, I've been on the juice for almost 15 months and almost 25k miles. I just bought a new sensor, was $46 from mazda, but definitely going to apply some silicone, also upgrading the ITFP to a dw65c while i'm at it.

mrshoulders 03-27-2013 10:10 AM

Damn the drop off in mpg is like 100 miles.....I guess it's worth it cause I can't wait myself

Well, here's how it goes: You get you a 93 tune and you're like "holy fuck this car is fast now."

When you see how much your car has grown in comparison to a stock tune, imagine starting all over again because E85 makes that much of a difference.

Then you'll be like 93 is fast, E85 is retarded.

burn813 03-27-2013 10:49 AM

225 almost every time on 50/50 e85/93

Dizzy Turbo 03-27-2013 10:58 AM

The only downside of corn for me is broken axles lol. I ran 50/50 for around 20k miles and now I'm at a 4-8 mix

minger 03-27-2013 11:05 AM

93 (winter) - ~26-28
anywhere from 3/9 or 50/50: 22 MPG in summer. I floor it a lot more then too.

Nice avatar. I lol'd.

sidekick 03-27-2013 12:16 PM

I'm running a 4.5 gallon blend and I got about 16MPG combined on my last tank. I drive mostly city though, so lots of stop lights and accelerating. I don't baby it either.

Postulio4joo 03-28-2013 12:05 AM

The negatives are....
1. 19 combined MPG with regular driving.
2. I don't even know what regular driving is anymore. Going WOT is always fun.
3. Always having to fill up at 220-240 miles to the tank.
4. Trying to figure out where I can pick up some E85.

That's about it.
