Where do you guys data log? Today I tried data logging and its hard as hell to find a flat runway 1. Highway cant because cant slow down enough for a 3rd gear pull without people flashing and honking and when i do i have to stop before i finish data logging 2. Country roads are shit huge pot holes everywhere and i dont want a bent rim |
If you're around Grand Rapids, then I know that there's a stretch of I-96 between Lansing and GR that would work perfectly. The only issue is that you'd have to wait until late at night to do the logging, and make sure that the roads are clear of other cars, Police, and beasts. |
1. Don't be a pussy. 2. Invest in an above average radar detector. 3. Do it late at night if your that scared. 4. Most minimums on highways are 40-45 so get in the right lane and wait for everyone to go around you, then slow down and then data log. 5. Never drive anywhere without a firearm, just in case. |
I do mine on a freeway on-ramp. |
highway, anytime before 2pm or after 9 pm. only takes a few seconds |

Yup I do most of my logs on on-ramps. Or wait until I pass the cop pulloffs between exits. |

I found a decent back road but there's not a lot of places turn around so I end up going way further than. I want to |
Behind my house is a very straight long 5 lane street :) |
You can start logging earlier and just edit out the un-needed cells if the slowing down part is what is getting you. I have a nice service road beside I-95 that I do mine on. |

Would have to be the same on ramp, as slight different elevations can ruin comparison logs. ;) |

i like industrial streets, like the ones that go parallel to the freeway, they usually have 50 mph ish speed limit, limited traffic and cops usually dont patrol them. |

Seriously though OP I always like to find a nice open piece of highway with no hills or overpasses so you have clear view of what is in front of you. This also pertains to radar detectors, it helps their range tremendously. For a third gear log you will go from 25 mph to say 75. It only takes a few seconds, just be smart about it. As far as on ramps, there are a few that I LOVE to hit on my bike. On these ramps I can max out second gear (115 mph) before I have to slow down and merge. I always slow down close to speed limit though, because you never know when a cop happens to be coming up behind you. |

Me three. I-95, on-ramp, 4th gear, late at night (midnightish). |
On ramps for me as well |
School zones. Oh, but bring a fire arm just in case |

I-95 or turnpike, start on ramp. |

Yeah school zones are the best and the most dangerous. Edit; Incidentally school zones are pretty dangerous these days with all the school shootings lol. My sarcasm fails the internet. |

Now...back on topic. On-Ramps are where I get most of my logging done as well, though there are some perfectly straight, flat, reasonably well-paved country roads around me that I use too. |
Only in america would that last rule apply... never drive anywhere without a firearm. If you were in canada, you can be in the fast lane, doing 30, and people would just move over to the other lane, and say "sorry" as they drove by. How far are you from the border again? |
There's a long straight highway road about 0.5 miles from my house. Traffic isn't too bad during the day either. I usually drive down the road going outbound, scouting for police in the area, then I U-turn at the next light, and I can usually do a 4th gear pull to redline here. Minimal damage to the road here too, so i don't pick up a ton of false KR |
I do mine on the entrance ramp/ 4th gear. Back roads work great too, you need to get away from GR, Byron Center farm land should be ok. How is you car doing with the new mods? I love mine so far. Just bought a TIP tonight on here :-) |
I lived in Ann Arbor, and didn't spend a TON of time out by Grand Rapids, but I seem to remember the back roads heading from GR in the direction of Hastings being pretty prime for some high-speed runs at the right time of the day (night), really anything east of you probably. Whole lot of nothing around GR until you get to Muskeegon or Lansing. |
I do mine on 95 on a nice 4 lane hw. Then theres like a weird off ramp that has 3 lanes and goes for 2 miles and is parallel to the hw i use that alot for 4th gear pulls. No one ever uses it... shit i do that at 530pm in traffic.... :cop: |
Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia. I hate this state.... or commonwealth.... or whatever the fuck it is. Next time I get pulled over by a trooper, I'm gonna tell him his car is labeled wrong.... "Shouldn't your car say 'Commonwealth of Virginia Trooper?'" I usually only datalog late at night on the same offramp every time. I still want to get a radar detector, though. I do a lot of traveling up and down the eastern shore of Maryland and through Delaware on route 113. There are plenty of prime places to datalog out there, but cops can be pretty sneaky in those areas. |
Any road that does not pass a donut shop. |
I do my logging in Africa. |
3rd gear logs are done on just about any on ramp. 4th gear logs are done on 295 in mid maine. After I pass an on ramp, I usually have 3-6 miles of no exits and only a turn about for cops every 2 miles or so. So when I go at night as long as there are no other cars out, I can play as much as I want. |

Its bullshit I tell you. MD was a southern state in the war! Now they went all fag on us... |
Steering wheel angle data sent to the ECU can effect your OBD 2 data. So, you guys logging on on-ramps have both the issue of grade not being flat and wheel angle to consider. I guess if you use the same ramp every time and start your WOT at the same point and rpm, the data would be usable for comparisons. Best logging accuracy will be in 4th gear on a level straight roadway with no bumps or dips. But redline will be about 107-108, so be careful. Always log the same place, same direction and go WOT at the same point. I will not disclose the location. Let's just say it is a long, straight, well-paved "private drive" (lol). |
To be clear, we do pulls on on ramps, AT THE END where it is straight. The I use is flat and yes it is best to use the same one every time. The moral of this story? If you value your life stay the fuck off I-95 lol. |
Pfft, the on ramp I use for logs is perfectly level with the highway i'm coming onto :p |
I live right around a bunch of highways. And i alsot have a reservation around here to that a has a nice stretch for maf logs and 3rd pulls. then i exit off that and do my 4th pulls as i merge. then i have I 78 that i can do my pulls on, double back on teh gardens state parkway and if people arnt mergin at 35mph i can get another pull before i exit and come back. |
I datalog on the way to your mom's house. Then I slip her my data log. |
Pssh...In my garage, I lift my car up Ferris Bueller style. |
^ Subbed for when it falls off the jack and crashes through the wall! lol. |
