(i.e. a shop or service provider cannot deactivate or render TPMS non-functioning)
If the TPMS is not working when a service provider receives the vehicle, then they provider has no legal obligations in that regard.
TireRack is a bit of a grey area since they're not directly servicing your car, but they force TPMS for applicable cars on the website just to be safe (according to the sales rep I talked to). If the tires are for offroad use, or if your TPMS is "broken" (wink wink) then they definitely have no obligation to sell wheels with TPMS sensors.
I called them kind of upset when the website was forcing sensors on me. I was ready for a fight with the salesman, but I told him what I wanted, and he just said "Sure, no problem. What address do you want them shipped to?" That was my first time shopping with TireRack, and I have to say that the helpful salesman made me a happy customer. |
