Well yeah if you tune specifically for that purpose, you can get good gas mileage. But i know as i've modded more and moved to more "agressive" tunes (going to be e-tuned when i get my car back from the dealership), my MPG has gone down due to more spirited driving and the want to mash the gas more often, and i'm sure the OTS maps have something to do with it as well.

If i get an MS3 i sure will take all your advise.. I always open my ears before my mouth but that being said if i get disrespected or talked to in a overly harsh manner for NO reason then game on! But i never talk smack especially being that i know nothing about these cars and im here to learn..

Only speculatation for now. There IS a Mazda 6 coming out later this year, sometime during the summer. A turbo-diesel engine. Not AWD and not badged Mazdaspeed.

The gas-engine variation (185hp, 185lbtq) is out, but not for sale yet. Only on display at dealerships until later this month.

It felt slow the interior sucked and it was mor than the tech package speed 3 so I just went with the speed nice interior and faster than the wrx

WRX guys say they are fster..LOL Im going to guess they are both in the same ball park as far as performance but i still would thing the rex is faster at least 0-60 being AWD and its not factory limited in 1 to 3rd gear? I saw a MS3 and a WRX parked in a parking lot where i live next to each other the rex was a sedan and i was surprised how good the MS3 looked! When i look at it in pics online i dont really like the front end but it actually looked alot better in person and the side of it looked alot better then the WRX! I was surprised that i liked the MS3 that much in person and it made me consider it as an option! Even my wife said "That car looks fast" She did not say that about the WRX!

Welcome. I was like you. I'm 35 and honestly used to despise the tuner scene until I learned more. The MS3 crowd is NOT what I was expecting. This site has it all for the taking and can be your best friend if you learn how to use it, or it can be your worst nightmare (go check out the troll of shame thread).

Anyway I came from a 03 Cobra and was always a muscle car guy myself. Obviously the MS3 is not the same type of animal but once you figure out how to drive these little bastards they are a blast and surprisingly quick!

Like others said, if you decide to go with the MS3 your first mod should be to donate here! It opens up a butt load of options for you including the for sale section. Then you want to look at fuel pump internals, Cobb Accesport, short ram intake and rear motor mount. Those are your first mods PERIOD!

I completely agree. I came from a 93 cobra and an 01 cobra.. Completely different. But the ms3 is surprisingly pretty quick.

Anyway I came from a 03 Cobra and was always a muscle car guy myself. Obviously the MS3 is not the same type of animal but once you figure out how to drive these little bastards they are a blast and surprisingly quick!

Like others said, if you decide to go with the MS3 your first mod should be to donate here! It opens up a butt load of options for you including the for sale section. Then you want to look at fuel pump internals, Cobb Accesport, short ram intake and rear motor mount. Those are your first mods PERIOD!

It's really a tough call. I was in the same predicament back in May '12. I'm 34, married, mortgage, no kids yet, etc. I got tired of buying a bunch of cars throughout the years and end up being disappointed/regretful all the time. I work in the mental health field, so I'm not exactly rolling in dough. I wanted to find something that was fun to drive, yet could work as a family car and also be fairly reliable. I narrowed my car purchase to the Focus ST (wasn't out yet at that time), MS3, and WRX. Test drove both, back to back. I honestly think there are pros and cons to both. The dealer even let me test drive the MS3 by myself. Haha. I'm a big car fan so I'm not biased toward one particular brand. Anyway, IMO -

WRX - felt more planted (AWD), but had more body roll. Quick off the line. Engine sounded great. Liked the looks ('11+ have Sti wide body), bland interior.

MS3 - quick, once rolling (did some pulls on my test drive), liked the looks, shifter felt better than the Rex, interior the same, exhaust wasn't anything remarkable.

Decided on a WRX - OTD was $26,100. Couple reasons I chose the Rex. My wife and I already have a 2010 Mazda 3s hatch. Didn't want another and wanted a sedan. Also, I always wanted an AWD car (I live in eastern PA - weather is hit or miss). I couldn't be happier with the car. The downsides to the car can be fixed with aftermarket (ie - thicker sways, SS/bushings, etc). The MS3 comes from the factory pretty stacked. The Rex needs some parts to make it better. Both cars should have no problem seeing high 12s. The Rex probably needs a downpipe, AP, tune and good launch. MS3 probably what everyone suggested above. The MS3 will probably be quicker and more fun from a "sushi roll," but the Rex won't be fighting as much for traction from a dig. Let me know if you have any questions about the Rex. Wish I had money for both. Haha.

If i get one the ones that are available to me are Black , Red, or White... What looks the best on this car? Obviously i will make the final decision when i see them in person but what do you guys think for the sake of conversation? I actually saw a red one in person and i think it looked sweet and i dont usually go for red!

LOL..I hear ya! I just thinking my MPG will be lower! So these cars get better then 25mpg what there rated for? That would be great! I heard the WRX's suck the gas!

Is this car really only 0-60 in 6 to 6.3?? All the reviews online say that thats what it is! WRX is like 4.7 to 5.1 in the reviews. Thats a huge huge difference. I drove cars like the new focus ST that are rated at 6 sec 0-60 and they felt really slow! But im coming off a 300 SRT8 that did like 4.5 to 4.7 0-60..LOL

I have had a daily driver in the mid 12s and mid 11s with NOS. When I started looking at cars I thought I wanted to go 12s again. I started with a 11 Stang because it would go 12s basically stock. I then drove a WRX and a MS3. What I quickly realized is that straight line is fun but not all there is to a fun daily commute. The interior of the WRX reminded me of my 84 Toyota truck. I settled on the MS3 and at almost 2 years of ownership and 28K miles still enjoy the fuck out of driving it. It has surprised many at 5:00 am on my way to work. Can't wait until the roads dry a bit so I can park my gas guzzling truck and break out happy ass car.

0-60 is a metric of traction more than power. 60-100 or even 40-60 is a better metric of power. How often did you launch your srt on the street?

Everybody knows that the best bang for your buck is to get the Mazda dealership to swap out the k04 turbo for the gtNOOB3000 upgrade. It's free and gives you a good smack in the head.

Not that i always perfectly launched my SRT8 and timed it or anything. But 4.6 0-60 is what it is rated at and you can just feel the raw power! When i buy cars i love to feel off the line acceleration im addicted to it!! And as i was saying when i test drive cars like the new Focus ST Thats rated at 6.0 0-60 it felt really slow! I dont like that slow feeling i love to feel hard core acceleration. Plus i love cars that are respected and people know they are fast so they dont really mess you type of car.

Well if you are looking for a launch you won't find it here. This is not a drag car. No Fwd car is.

Power can be interpreted in numerous ways. I particularly like the feeling of passing someone at will on the freeway. Some enjoy the torque steer feeling as well.

I also love how I can fit whatever I need in it, its respectable fuel economy and the innovation that is disi + turbo. Kinda like having the first fuel injected Chevys back in the day.

People don't know we that it is btw. Most don't realize its boosted. You won't be feared. This isn't a muscle car with heritage and recognition.

You need to drive one. Turn off the tcs when you do. Don't launch it. Get it up to 30 and punch it. You'll smile.

Ya i think that is the most important part is i need to test drive one! But the closest one is like 90 miles away. The ones im looking at for sale are 130 miles away cause they have the best deal right now!
