A friend bought a 2010 Mazda3 and the salesperson gave him this. I didn't get anything like this when I bought my 2013 Speed3.

Any ideas?

I think it's a magnet, dealers may use this to place temporary tags on cars that are being test driven

but that's just my assumption though, don't quote me on it.

looks like a wireless tracking tag. a lot of dealers use these to locate keys that get misplaced/pocketed by sales people/technicians/customers and so on.

that dumb bastard gave you the freaking key lock that the dealership uses to manage their keys. they can't possibly want to give away those things.

Hammer's right that's the key lock for the key storage locker. If you want to be nice drop that back off to the dealer. The sales man and (more so) the lot attendant would appreciate it. I used to be a lot attendant back in the day, sales would do this often. If you don't return it basically they'll have that key record suck in the system.

I don't care what you say and what proof there is. I'm going to go on believing it's what code monkey said it was. Or that it's at least both (why not?) That's more fun.
