WTF boost cut?!?!

Alright so today on my way home from the gym i decided to go wot in 3rd gear and looked at the shitty stock boost gauge that for some reason I couldnt hit full boost??! When I go WOt I look at my boost gauge and boost goes all the way up till the before last line. For some reason I cant hit the last boost line?? My engine mods is only a COBB sri which i had for a few months and had no problems hitting full boost before and I dont have a cel. Is it possible I have leak? Possibly maybe my sri loossen up?

G26 09-13-2011 07:04 PM

Well, first off thats not boost cut, boost cut would be an immediate power cut that feels like shit.

Also, keep in mind the stock tune is a load targeting tune, meaning it will adjust your boost to hit that load target. You could also have a boost leak post turbo, which could be one of your stock boost tubes. A pre-turbo leak should not really effect boost levels, it would affect afr.

Without the ap and data logs, it could be anything.

Its rly pissing me off lol ill try uninstalling my sri and putting it bk in tomorow

Check hot and cold pipe, as well as stock bpv. And get a real boost gauge, not that VTEK meter!

boosted_out 09-13-2011 07:29 PM

Alright, would the cold weather have anything to do with it?

captain slow 09-13-2011 07:29 PM

This happened to me once but then I realized I took my foot off the gas....

Seriously tho, are you feeling power loss or is the gauge just not making it to full boost?

boosted_out 09-13-2011 07:31 PM

Well I dont feel that my mazdaspeed is fast but that might have to do with getting used to it.

captain slow 09-13-2011 07:36 PM

Lol. Potential boost leak. Maybe its cuz its a factory gauge.

Also, my car could outrun a jetcar when I got it, but after a few weeks I feel as is if my old grand am could keep up. Every mod has its woah time then its like meh...

Guessing you didn't get the whole part where @G26 was trying to explain to you how the stock map is a torque targeting map vs boost based?

Yes the colder weather will cause lower boost.

boosted_out 09-13-2011 07:41 PM

But the thing is even tho its factory shit gauge, before it would show full boost

The problem is most likely you not understanding how the system works...

HIGH IAT+more boost=ECM HITS LOAD TARGET=less boost+LOW IAT

SLOWHATCH 09-13-2011 07:50 PM

might want to write out the abbreviations for the less informed. ^^^

Not much of an abbreviation to explain unless I am wrong...but IAT=Intake Air Temp

In short, the colder the air and the more dense equals the same torque level as hotter air that is less dense that has been boosted to a higher pressure in order to achieve said torque level. My gauge reads only 13-14 psi if the temps are less than 50 ambient, any other time it will peg out the stock gauge....not that I trust that for true boost level.

Alright thx guys, I was freaking out fir nothig and with no ap to check logs... Still funny how the day i got my speed i thought it was so fast and now its barely anything haha

Get an AP and learn to tune. You'll still get used to it after a while but at least as u adjust the little things you can gauge how fast you rock thru the gears and what each little thing u tweak does for performance.

Get an AP and or some form of a gauge. I'm getting the aeroforce for this kind of a reason. Stock boost gauge sucks.

mrmonk7663 09-13-2011 08:52 PM

Make sure your DSC button is turned OFF too. I had an instance the other day where this limited my boost even though I had no wheelspin...don't know how or why. My boost would spike to max with the DSC on, but 2500 log pull would result in 12-13psi all the way through. I reflashed my car, turned off DSC, and voila fixed.

Actually the stock gauge is pretty accurate.

I feel you, when I first test drove the car, the low end torque scared the shit outta me. Now it feels slooowww.

Paul 09-17-2011 09:39 AM

Stock it will have limited torque 1 2 3 gears?.... Im pretty sure I can't get the last bar in 2nd and 3rd on stock parts... I'll check later today.

AP will unlock the Torque available in the first 3 gears I believe.
