Wtf happened with John at hpfpupgrade.com

First, I would like to hello. I'm relatively new to this forum and my 2010 speed3. I'm coming from a VW GTI and don't really miss it! Lol.

For my GTI, choose to use hpfpupgrade.com's fuel pump when going stage 2. I understand that john also makes parts for mazdas and so i looked into it. to my surprise it appears that there isn't much support for his products on this forum. I've been reading and could not find why it is that John and his company is not highly regarded ( to the the least) on this forum.

Can anybody shed light on this topic?

MSFer87 10-12-2012 08:49 PM

He thinks he is gods gift to cars, lies to people, doesn't back his bullshit products. Any other questions?

SLOWHATCH 10-12-2012 08:55 PM

Some have no problem with him. Some do. Let it be.
FWIW I've been running the hpfp pump for a while now with no issues, so are others.

John has a long history with this forum.

Between selling faulty parts to members and blaming them for the failures and refusing to replace or warranty the work, making multiple businesses to continue performing his "shady" operations and even going as far as outright insulting members.

Some have had great success working with him while others have been less than thrilled.

I'm trying to remain impartial here though it may not look it.

in the OPs defense, i came on here after john was banned and also had no idea what the fuck happened. i think i finally found a few threads and asked some questions.. in the end, i didn't really give a fuck about any of it and promptly forgot all the drama i had discovered.

i don't think you should be groaned for asking questions where the answers aren't readily available..

Haltech 10-13-2012 02:14 AM

Plenty of answers available.. just search the forum for ptp or ptperformance

TiGraySpeed6 10-13-2012 07:48 AM

just google "PTP failure"

no lack of results, and then you can decide for yourself.

Personally, john will never see a penny of my money, and I'm amazed that others still buy from him.

Buy Autotech from Edge Autosport. /thread

I just googled "ptp" failure and holy shit. That sucks.. It is interesting that a lot of folks over at vw vortex kinda praise him. Maybe they should know about this because he seems to be concealing fairly well.

In retrospect, I did have some issues with fuel pressure after installing the hpfpupgrade pump. It was resolved after it was replaced. I supposed AT it is.

CamSpeed360 10-15-2012 06:26 AM

I'm not defending John or anything. His customer service is shit from my experience when I have attempted to work with him. But I bought his internals off another forum before I was aware of any of this and I've been running those internals for over 10k miles now without any issues. It's interesting that none of the VW guys have had any problems with his parts and that the Mazda failures are so frequent. I'm pretty indifferent about the whole thing. But my internals are just fine... For now.

This is what John said on some other forum with reference to his FP internals:

Debris and fuel pump internals don't go together!

If you question your ability to install these, buy an assembled fuel pump. If opt for fuel pump DIY kit, "CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN"... even the slightest amount of debris, lint, dust will cause fuel pump internals to fail. If you drop them... you have to start over and clean them.

We have warrantied 4 or 5 sets of fuel pump internals this year that have looked like this. I will be adding a stipulation in the warranty, that if any debris damage is found there will be a surcharge for replacement internals.

You wouldn't want dirt inside your engine, inside your fuel system... don't let it get inside your brand new $300 part when doing the install.

It has gotten so bad that we are thinking about pulling the fuel pump internals or DIY kit from the site. The only option will be a complete fuel pump.

What amazes me... we sell a DIY kit for the VW and Audi community... we have seen zero failures with that kit/install.

i did that when i was a learnin'.. there are thousands of threads that reference ptp when you search 'ptp failure' but say nothing about any problems. ptp is mentioned so many times, it's hard to get relevant info without wading through threads for hours..

again, i don't give a fuck either way. i just think we should esplain or link ptp failure threads when people ask about it, instead of being all 'stfu, buy autotech'

that is all.

TiGraySpeed6 10-15-2012 07:12 AM

Interesting that the whole "debris" thing comes up again, since just recently reported on MSF that John warranty rebuilt a Mazda HPFP for a customer. It lasted, oh, what, I think about a hundred miles....

crappy kit is crappy

Enki 10-15-2012 07:22 AM

For the record, I dry-rebuild my pump with autotech internals on a paper towel. No fucks given if there's some paper towel lint on the internals or in the pump either.

There will ALWAYS be random shit in the pumps; the fuel filter won't catch the gummed oil/fuel mix that develops inside the pump, plus there are o-rings and scrapers inside the nut as well.

Raider 10-15-2012 07:35 AM

Debating on even leaving this open. He is banned. His customer service skills suck, and very few have not had a problem with his internals.

Having replaced many fuel filters, it is paintfully obvious there can be shit in the gas tank under normal use.

TiGraySpeed6 10-15-2012 07:38 AM

close it
please!

same tired ass ol' debate is tired
