Thanks to one particularly impatient asshole of a driver, my poor car got quite a thrashing on Friday.

I was driving in the left lane on the LIE in rush hour, so traffic had slowed to ~20mph as there was tons of traffic and it had just started raining.

The asshole behind me decided he didn't like being stuck behind me in traffic, and he would much rather be stuck behind the vehicles 20 feet ahead of me in the center lane. Asshole decides to cut off a loaded tractor trailer in order to advance 20 feet, and in doing so, caused the truck driver to slam on his brakes and skid on the wet asphalt.

So the truck slides into me and rakes the whole passenger side of my car and pushes me into the HOV lane where another car hit my on the driver's side. Thankfully we were all okay due to the relatively low speed, but I am not sure what the outcome will be for my car. Adjuster is going to check it out tomorrow...

Fucking love impatient drivers who think cutting people off in rush hour traffic is doing anything but causing problems for everyone.

Jtaylor 05-28-2014 09:39 AM

Glad everyone was alright, the damage looks pretty extensive for sure

snwslasher27 05-28-2014 09:40 AM

Damn sorry to see that, be sure to report back in what the adjuster says. Glad everyone is okay

SnailSpeed3 05-28-2014 09:44 AM

Yeah, my power steering fluid was all over the expressway too, I have a feeling I will be looking for a new car very soon...

At least the last 5 months have been fun.

doctavus 05-28-2014 10:03 AM

Did the faggot stop and hang out at the scene?

Jtaylor 05-28-2014 10:06 AM

Probably not, typical

socaltouch13 05-28-2014 10:50 AM

No of course not. I bet even if he did he would have said it was the rain's fault for being wet and to contact his lawyer for any further information, these rich, douchey long island drivers are all the same.

There was a car carrier behind the truck that hit me, the two guys in the carrier stopped to help out with traffic and stuff. I know they spoke to the cops, but I don't think they knew anything specific about the car that caused all this, not that it would help anyway.

Yeah, unfortunately I was a little too shocked from a semi trying to hop in my passenger's seat to really check out the extent of the physical damage, but I know when I tried to move it the steering wheel didn't budge at all.

I'm so used to being on the outside looking in with accidents (volunteer firefighter/emt for 5+ years) and this is the first real major collision I've ever been involved in as a driver so it was difficult to keep myself calm and focused.

Edit: The car is sitting at the body shop now and my girlfriend's father has been friends with the owner forever so I'm sure they'll let me know exactly what's going on with the thing.
I'm just worried if they do try and fix it that it will never quite be right again...

azarashi 05-28-2014 11:21 AM

Know the feels I got TBoned last summer and actually bought my speed after it. I didn't get really nervous after that accident I know just have a habit of checking side streets when going through a light now.

Damn that sucks, but mazdaspeed ftw haha...

Yeah I was just kinda freaked because I didn't see it coming at all, and I am always checking my mirrors because when I am riding my motorcycle (which I do far less now that I am home from school in Buffalo where everyone drives like they have nowhere to be... ever) it seems like pretty much every other car on the road is trying to kill me so the awareness carries over. It was just "damn this traffic is gonna take forever and this rain suuuOHH FUCK THAT'S A BIG TRUCK!"

Unfortunately it wont, from my experience with having my car at the body shop

Yeah I am kind of hoping it gets totaled and I can just get a check and hop in something else, but I also have the feeling I will get fucked on that end of the deal by the insurance company so I guess I'll just sit and wait and feel bad for my car...

That's better than seeing it coming. I watched a semi truck pull out as I was going past it and could do nothing except let it hit me...Hit the brakes and I would t-bone him, hit the gas and I would rear end the car in front of me, turn and I would drive off road onto an interstate.

Wrecks always suck. If there's no frame or suspension damage you may be okay. If there is push for a total loss and move on

Yeah I guess you're pretty spot on there, I was totally trapped either way with traffic directly in front and the HOV lane full to the left.

As much as I do love my car, it was absolutely miserable in the snow this winter and I was really wanting AWD when I bought it, but couldn't quite afford it. So to answer your question, I will most likely not be getting another speed unless I find a smoking deal on a speed6 with LOW miles or something...

kby 05-28-2014 12:22 PM

:( Not another LSM from NY. Fuck, I feel like the color is cursed now.

Shit, you couldn't have informed me of the cursed theory before I bought the thing?!

ArmanRus 05-28-2014 01:14 PM

Did you at least switch to all seasons this winter? If not, then don't blame the car for poor winter performance.

I bought the car in december so used the stock all season tires, which I know are not great. I am not saying that with a proper set of snow tires the car would have been better, but unfortunately for me the only road access to my house is up a huge ass hill or up a smaller retardedly steep hiil, so FWD does not do well to get me home after work on a snow day. Plus like I said before, I wanted AWD to begin with as i knew snow would be a particular issue for me, just couldn't make it happen.

Edit: Also I mentioned before that I am a volunteer FF/EMT so I am expected to respond to alarms even when the road conditions aren't friendly so anything I can do to give myself a safer easier trip in inclement weather is well worth it to me and the residents of my district.

ArmanRus 05-28-2014 01:31 PM

Ms3's come stock with summer tires. That's why I asked if you switched.

I wouldn't rule out FWD. If you had good snow tires on your car, you'd have zero issues. I live in VT and had a WRX before this so I was nervous about how I'd feel only having FWD. I did buy awesome snow tires and I was really impressed with how this car handled this past winter. I'm a skier so I was going up to the mountain and bombing through snow covered ski lots and the car is a tank with good snow tires.

I did make the mistake of putting my summer tires back on a week early and got stuck in my driveway when we got the last 4 inches of snow of the year. LOL. I'll just make sure I put my summer tires on later next year.

Sounds like you're already set on AWD but I figured I'd just add my experience.

Yeah, the summer tires with FWD = bad fucking time in snow. That was your problem OP.

5doorsoffury 05-28-2014 01:41 PM

Glad your ok op! hope that guy gets terminal anal cancer after winning the lotto only to die shitting him self in a pool of blood the day before he gets the pay out. Fuck the lie and the bull shit ass holes who drive in the non stop traffic found everywhere on the island.
Hope the car is ok but it looks like~ 10k+ in damage.

Ahah!, I guess it's due to my own stupidity that I didn't switch then, I was told I had all seasons by the dealer and never bothered to verify.. Oh well, too late now.

Haha yeah it was not fun having to ask my neighbors if I could shovel out their driveway in exchange for parking, shoulda just gone with my gut and gotten snow tires, but my wallet wasn't as sure...

I hear you man. I can't imagine how you got through the winter with the stock tires on! LOL

I got so pissed that day I got stuck in my driveway when we got a couple inches of snow. I just couldn't move. I had to wake up my brother-in-law and have him drive while I pushed my car out of the driveway. We have a 1/4 mile long driveway and exiting is uphill so you can imagine how fun that was. Me pushing was all it took though. I never had any problems with my winter tires on, even in this crazy ass ice storm we got. The thing was a tank.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your Speed. :( So sad and from the looks of it, it seems like it is on the brink of being totaled. Good luck!

Haha yeah I don't envy your driveway at all!!

As far as it being totaled or not, I love the car and it's tons of fun and so sexy, but I am hoping it gets totaled because no matter how good the guys are at the body shop, it will never be factory again, plus the resale value just took a HUGE dump!

Yeah, that's a good point. Really sucks getting in an accident for so many reasons.

SnailSpeed3 05-28-2014 03:46 PM

Yeah it really does! This is the first real major collision I've been in as a driver. It's so frustrating to have gotten my first brand new car to be proud of only to have it smashed to shit within 6 months...

sent while living life a quarter mile at a time

thems3driver 05-28-2014 03:54 PM

Damn dude I'm sorry to see that damage. Glad you r ok. Hopefully it's not insane bad damage. I almost got rear ended by some douche that wanted me to go over a speed bump at 20mph on his shitty 1998 Altima sanded down to 40 colors. Impatient drivers should be nail gunned to the ground lol

MMApex 05-28-2014 07:17 PM

Yeah the damage sucks real bad... I just don't understand why people thinking that cutting back and forth across the lanes in stop and go traffic, is going to get them where they have to be any faster. It just fucks shit up worse for everyone else who now has to deal with your dumb ass.

Haha yeah I probably shouldn't have purchased the car in the middle of the winter so I could have had a little more throwing around money for snow tires...

Oh well, adjuster should be calling today so will report back what my course of action will be.

86AmishMs3 05-29-2014 07:26 AM

Doubt it's totaled, but could be. Looks to be around 9-12k worth of damage.

And next winter buy snow tires, you'll thank yourself. Snow tires on FWD > All seasons on AWD

Yeah I am curious to hear what the adjuster will have to say, as for snow tires, they're going on whatever vehicle I'm driving next winter haha. After this year I'm not playing any more games with the snow.

ABOSWORTH 05-29-2014 08:09 AM

OP, definitely let us know how it turns out.

This is 100% true. A lot of people seem to think otherwise but snow tires are what make the most difference. Even if you had good snow tires on a RWD car, I'd rather drive that than an AWD car with shitty all season tires.

jack_hammer 05-29-2014 08:12 AM

dallas doesn't get much in the way of snow. but when we have, my car has been great in it. surprisingly good, actually. first were some goodyear eagles (i think GT, maybe fs1. i had both). also on my current tires are general tire g-max as-03 tires.

also, if you get totaled, maybe you can sell your internals to that jackass in that other thread who thinks he doesn't need them.

Yeah I will for sure. I know snow tries are really the deciding factor in the snow, but for some reason all winter I kept convincing myself that we wouldn't get much more snow and then more snow would fall haha. Oh well, live and learn not to be so dumb.

Sad to see an LSM in that condition.

lol, I never swapped out the tires I have this past winter. Running Michellin Super Sports (what came with the car when I bought it). Didn't have any major issues really, just took things easy.

Yeah it's painful to see my sexy ass car all smashed up...

I think we just got a bit more snow than I was expecting this year because the winters had been kinda mild for the past couple years, plus I spent a winter in Buffao with a fuckin 6 speed Nissan Sentra so I figured I could handle winter on the island, but the sentra had shitty snow tires at least...

fuuuu

Based on my experience as an adjuster - new tail light, rear bumper, front bumper, right side rear 1/4 panel, RR door skin, RF door skin, R Mirror, RF fender, R Headlight(possibly left one too) LF fender, New hood and more than likely 3 new wheels

EASILY $10-$12K in damages in body damage alone, and being it is a '13 with a value of approximately $20-$21k(depending on your milage) you're looking at around 55% damage to value ratio on just that.

Most insurance ocmpanies won't total out until it reaches closer to the 80% mark.
