@El Beaner; completely agree, I don;t see it being totaled. Had my entire front end replaced, including crash bar, and still was not totalled.

EASILY $10-$12K in damages in body damage alone, and being it is a '13 with a value of approximately $20-$21k(depending on your milage) you're looking at around 55% damage to value ratio on just that.

Most insurance ocmpanies won't total out until it reaches closer to the 80% mark.
Well I wish you had been more generous as an insurance adjuster haha, maybe I'll see if I can sweet talk him into totaling it... Any suggestions?

Pretty much what MMApex is saying below - they use computer programs. All they do is enter items that need to be replaced, items that need to be repaired and the system uses shop manuals to calculate how many work hours each will be which would then tanslate to how long it will take to repair(and labor cost).

Sweet talking really wouldn't come into play unless it was around 75-78% damage really(and in that instance you get a body shop to start pointing out and be a nit picky as possible to drive the cost up.)

What insurance company was the other car(whom I am assuming is paying for everything) with?

That sucks, I just hate what a collision like this does for the future of the car...

Yeah I understand how they figure it out, obviously they aren't gonna pay full value for a car that only needs half its value in repairs...

Yeah I hear ya, it was more of a joke than a real question... I'm going through my insurance (Geico) so this can all get squared away quickly, but they'll ultimately be going after the truck who smashed me up's insurance company. The truck's company was some kind of umbrella plan, but I couldn't get in touch with them so I just went through Geico because I know they'll get shit done. Wish this guy would hurry up and call me though!

I never got a positive number or name of the company, Geico looked into it and told me it was an "umbrella policy" and gave me a couple numbers to try, none worked, so I decided I would rather pay my $500 deductible up front and let Geico handle it and go after the other company for the moeny's and eventually (hopefully) I should get my deductible back too... Least that's what they said...

I'm not sure of how they are handled in your state, but if not totalled... diminished value claim. It's a difficult argument to make, due to the fact you haven't suffered an actual loss, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah I saw that somewhere, I will definitely be looking into that option if they don't total it.

Ok, if not totalled I would HIGHLY recommend going through one of their Auto Repair Xpress lcoations(if they are available in your area). Reason is if you ever have a problem EVER while you own the car you go back to Geico and they handle it for you. It's rare that there are issues but when dealing with as much damage as you have, take any and all gurantees you can.

I was an adjuster for Geico acutally(they have thier midwest HQ here in Dallas)

As for your deductible, you'll be good and get that back. Ethically Geico will always reimburse you your deductibel first before keeping any money for themselves(and usually in other driver fault situations Geico is good about getting 100% of the money back anyway).

Diminished value claims are tricky, but with as extensive damage as you have you might have a good case for it even though the majority of your damage is cosmetic, if anyone runs a report they'll see you have a high dollar damage amount and assume a lot of mechanical issues. The best way to handle it, find comps for the car in your area(going as far as 100 miles. Then take your car to a reputable dealer and have them appraise it. If your car appraises for considerably less you can usually get the difference.

The car was already brought to a body shop where my girlfriend and her father (his cars are always kept IMMACULATE) have gotten a lot of their work done and since her dad has known the owner forever I figure there shouldn't be issues.

"The best way to handle it, find comps for the car in your area(going as far as 100 miles." - what do you mean by "comps" do you mean like a comparably valued undamaged car? And is this something that should be brought up when I speak to the adjuster later (whenever he calls) if they are going to go ahead and fix the car?

Actually if you could just spell out the whole last part a little more I would appreciate it... I just want to know exactly what I'm talking about...

For dimished value, you usually go after the other party in the situation(it would be a seperate settlement apart from your damage settlement). You can definitely discuss with the Geico adjuster, but since your insurance company is only handling repairs to expedite the process, the diminished value claim would most likely not be handled by Geico.

What you need to do is get ahold of the other insurance company and speak with their adjuster in the matter regarding the DV claim.

This sucks. Good luck with insurance. Too many drivers are only focused on the 11 seconds they will gain by cutting someone else off.

Ah, okay that clears things up for me, thanks for the advice.

Yeah thanks, I don't understand what they think they will really gain by waiting in the same traffic a whole car length ahead of where they just were...

Yeah, that really sucks man. I get pretty impatient driving but I don't drive like an asshole. In fact, it's usually stupid drivers that get me all worked up. LOL

You've got to change that avatar, man. LOL. That thing has got to go. You've donated but having that crappy avatar makes you look like a brownie.

Pretty much this.

I'm currently on Defferred Adjudication for a speeding ticket (I blame the Corksport Test Pipe ) and have been driving stirctly speed limit(which has increaded my MPG's quite a bit). I've had people going 10-15 mph faster weaving in/out only to end up next to them at a red light

Haha I end up in the same situation all the time (at the light, not with the ticket)... I like to call those drivers "Red light racers", they ALWAYS get to light first!

UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with the adjuster and the body shop.

As it stands now, the adjuster says what you all have been saying, the damage is cosmetic so far and totals about $11k in damages (nowhere near the $24k value he got for the car).

The body shop is going to start ordering parts and once they arrive they will tear into it and if anything pops up they'll of course let the adjuster know and get whatever parts they need.

They said it didn't look like there was frame damage or anything too serious so I guess I will be getting my car back in a few weeks.

Talking to the adjuster again on Monday, just to finalize everything and see if any more issues came up...

Looks like I will be hunting down that diminished value claim, then quickly spending it on go fast bits should I get any actual money.

Kind of have mixed feelings because I definitely love the car, but I really, really, REALLY don't want to end up chasing gremlins for the life of this thing!

Much better man!! I approve! LOL

I totally understand how you're feeling. Honestly though man, I don't think you'll be chasing gremlins with that damage. It's only body damage. If the damage was all front end, I might be worried but that is mostly side damage so as long as they get it looking good, I don't think you'll ever notice that it was in an accident.

I seriously doubt you'll have gremlins to deal with as long as the body shop does a good job prepping the body and painting it properly. I already know there is going to be a supplemental to that claim for at least another 2K for behind the scenes damage.

Hell while it's there talk to them about painting the rear valence black(looks sexy on LSM's) instead of the graphite color, since you'll need a new bumper too.

Also a suggestion, start looking on Car-Parts.com for some used LED tails and see what the adjuster is saying on the estimate new tail light will be and see if you can swing a swap with the body shop.

And make sure you RA flaps are on the estimate since they are aftermarket, it looks like you'll need a new set

Haha glad to hear it!

Yeah if it really is all cosmetics and they don't start finding busted shit when taking it apart I'm not too worried about the future. I know the power steering has some issues because the fluid was all over the LIE so I'm curious if that was just a busted reservoir or what...

Yeah I'll look into it, haven't checked into the black rear valence, but I'll give it a search and see if I'm into it, as for the taillights I'll check that out too, didn't even think to consider it as an option... Now if only I can get them to install a catless DP for me haha...

Edit: Good call on the mudflaps too, again didn't think of that!

When I had my accident I took it to a shop that was approved by my insurance so they would guarantee the work for life like @El Beaner; said, I also picked a shop that offered their own life time warranty on every part they touched for as long as I own the vehicle. I also got lucky that my brother in-law and a good friend both work at the shop so they could keep an eye on it as it was being taken apart, assessed and repaired. They both knew how anal/ocd I am and made sure everyone at the shop know I would be very picky.

Good luck with your car, hopefully they total it but if your states is like mine, it has to be 90 or 100% loss (can't remember what they told me) for them to count it as totaled. They also seem to have their own way of determining value as they valued it higher then what several online sources did.

Make sure you test drive it on multiple roads in both directions and at different speeds. When I got mine back I noticed that the steering was off a little and it didn't seem like it was wanting to return to center on it's own. I took it back for multiple re-alignments until they noticed a small leak in the power steering rack. They replaced it and my steering was back to being nice and tight and self centering.

Good luck with your car, hopefully they total it but if your states is like mine, it has to be 90 or 100% loss (can't remember what they told me) for them to count it as totaled. They also seem to have their own way of determining value as they valued it higher then what several online sources did.
Thanks, the adjuster said for NY its 75%, but Geico usually is closer to like 70% and its totaled, but I'll just have to see what pops up as they tear into it...

Definitely will do, thanks for the tip!

Cool to see such good advice. Sounds like it's unlikely to be totaled. Just make sure the work is good and the gremlins should be gone. Your biggest negative is resale value with the soon to be salvage title.

Lol. Admit it, worth it.

Yeah I doubt it'll get to the point where it's totaled and I'm hoping that I can figure out this diminished value claim if the resale really is hurt bad. Then I can just put it all towards going faster!!

Glad your still in the family. If it was totalled, I would have advised you to try another speed3 and put on winter tires next time. I've had no issues with my Blizzaks in Minnesota weather, and you should experience the speed in the warmer months to really appreciate it.

Yeah, from what everyone's said I am just a big dumb idiot and this winter wouldn't have been nearly as bad with snow tires haha...

Glad to be getting it back too, but now I just want them to finish it and give it back so I can go drive the shit out of it and get rid of this Homo Accord rent a cart...

Regardless if you know the shop or not, do not simply accept the keys to the car when it's time to pick it up. Request to look over the car with the manager/owner at pickup and check everything. In my experience, there is always something not quite right (panel gap, color-blend, poor sanding/buffing or wavy filler work). Go over the car with a keen eye and don't accept anything you aren't satisfied with.

Good luck!
