I'll have to look in my notes when I get home. I haven't posted sizes yet, as I won't know for sure if they work until I've done some testing.

Quick question for the e85 gurus. How long can e85 be stored in one of those red plastic gas cans before its no longer safe to use? I've searched and found mixed results as to how long it takes e85 to break down/condensate/absord condensation whatever but basically turn into shit.

Reason I ask is because I have a friend who has about 10 gallons in outside storage that has been there since september. I would like to pick up some cheap e85 thats not 90 miles away, but I don't want to pour trash in my tank...

I don't know the answer, but conventional wisdom says 3 months for gas....and ethanol is highly hygroscopic.....not sure if I would chance it, despite my love for the corn.

Finally had my first problem today and I can say I DIDN'T like it at all......I went back on 85 to have some funn this weekend.....but its been 20 degrees or so....but going to work this morning, the car felt funny, but then cruising on highway, everytime I gave it gas, my car would just like hesitate/studder....kinda felt like it was gonna die.....scariest shit ever, thought the car was gonna blow up.

But after work, I finally put stock irdium w.e ranged plugs in and cleaned the spill valve....and good as new!!!!!!!!! I can finally boost again! Car feels good till next time :/....but car rly doesn't like cold weather running 85.

Thankfully come Sunday, and throughout the next couple days, its suppose to be about 40s again.

I'm assuming it doesn't take THAT long for E85 & 93oct to separate, and I'm wondering if I should siphon out the gas that's in my tank. I'm worried about corrosion to the fuel lines (and everything) of the E85 separating and floating up (and just being in there stagnate in general). There's a big difference between letting your car sit for a week, and 3+ months.

Well actually this is the first problem I have had running 85....I think I drove with 85 ~2000 miles....this is the first time cleaning spill valve....I think the cold has something to do with my problem I had, happened after running through a half a tank.

Corn is def the devil.....can't get enough of it!!!!!! Blown turbo haha.

@phate when the spill valve got messed up and shit....it threw a code...like fuel pressure regulator something something low circuit....it was the valve getting gunked up right?? Car runs good now after cleaning it.

I've never thrown that code when the spill valve drops pressure, but I have caused the cel by unplugging the spill valve while the car is running. That's weird that you got it while driving.

If its totally airtight then it should be fine. but either way 10g aint much. Buy like 10 5g jugs and stock up at said 90 mile away gas station.

Well bad news again..........car wouldn't start this morning, it was at least 15 degrees if not colder overnight, and I stayed at the girls house, so car was out all night....went to start it, car started, and.kept dying...I seriously had to crank the car 20 times before the car would stay on, thanks to @phate letting me know about that.

Then, after I left her house, couldn't even get down the road, and well the Spill valve gave out this morning, cleaned it, all good....then drove down to the meet in dekalb boosting a lot with 2 other speeds, and about ~40 mins later right when we arrived, spill valve gave out again....cleaned it, back on 93 now....we'll see what happens now.

85 is very very shitty in cold weather....I have not had one problem before....and now, spill valve keeps getting gunked up I guess.

With my car it takes a little bit of letting it crank before it will start and if I let off the clutch right after it starts when its cold it will die.

@glorifiedbozo yeah, idk why I threw that code......and mine started the same way...it cranked, started, once clutch released it would die....but it would die still with clutch in for a couple seconds tho....seriously took 20 cranks till the car actually stayed on.

I just don't understand how my spill valve got gunked up/lost pressure twice in the same day....about 2 hrs later.

Sticky spring; have to clean between the coils on the button valve.

Of the spill valve? Or do I have to pull the pump?

Spill valve; use some needle nose pliers to remove the round piece that remains in the pump when you pull the spill valve. Be careful as to not dump the spring/button valve out into the pump or on the ground; that would be bad.

The only way to know for sure if the spring is clean or not is to let it dry then gently squeeze it until the coils compress all the way. If it feels sticky, get to scrubbin or replace the spring with an aftermarket one.

Ace Hardware for < $1 7/32 spring. Check the pink elephants and unicorns (my) build thread for more infos and photos.

EDIT:
Updated to reflect actual measured size; apparently this one was in the wrong bin.

Hard to say. I didn't have any spill valve sticking issues for eight days, after a couple months of having to clean it every five days or so. Then I was hooning about at a NATOR IL meet, activating my two-step to show the flames shooting out the back, and the spill valve stuck.

I went back to straight pump gas this week because it was very cold (highs in the teens), and I was planning on taking a trip and didn't want to mess with the valve.

Went back to 93, no traction. But will be bringing some down to DC for tuning with @phate on the dyno if it is load bearing. @superskaterxes

So would you say it would work fine without e85? I'm not on corn right now, but I need to replace that o-ring for peace of mind. Assume you were on pump gas you think it would be alright?

The spill valve and o-ring mod are two completely separate things.
You'll be fine up to 50/50 if my experience is any indication.

ABSpeed3 quoted Silva, whom was talking about his spill valve. The only o-ring related to the spill valve is the one that does the sealing, which, if needed replacing, would likely mean a car on fire.

The only o-ring to replace would be the one on the piston retaining nut, which has nothing to do with the spill valve (hence my comment).

hrm... i thought that silva's o-ring was for the piston...

in either case... i am interested to know if your spring mod fixes the sticking issue, or at least makes it less prevalent, on full e...

I am talking about the o ring around the piston retaining nut. Is that not what his picture was of a few pages back?

Yes. Why are you worried about this again, seeing as you aren't running ANY ethanol?

im looking to get an e85 tune with a 3 or 4 gallon blend of e85, 10 gallon 91. After my tune I was looking to run just 91 again because of availability of e85 and only use it when I crave more from my dd. Anyone think I would be seeing any specific problems when swapping out tunes and gas from e85 to 91 intermittently.
