Fuck.

I guess I should get off my lazy ass and pull my pump and inspect it.

Keep in mind I didn't put the round o-ring where you did; I couldn't get it stuffed in there for the life of me.

OK so in the midst of all the future testing and whatnot, I'm still having issues with my car. Currently, fuel pressure dips down on anything past 8 psi or so, kind of like I'm back on stock internals or something. Going to check to make sure I didn't tweak the hardline or something obvious like that when I rebuilt the pump this morning.

Also hoping I'm not dumping fuel into the top of the head (oil pressure still seems normal; will sniff the dipstick tomorrow morning as well to make sure it doesn't smell like corn and 91).

So kids, if you're cleaning out your pump and see a little black plastic deal, DON'T scratch it and DON'T cut it out. You will be proper fucked.

Also still waiting for @that1rowdyracer's buddy to ship the pump I paid him for 10 days ago so I can have a real working pump again.

that1rowdyracer 03-22-2012 07:26 PM

I have emailed and called him just an fyi

Enki 03-22-2012 07:45 PM

When? The pump showed up yesterday (still don't have tracking information, which doesn't really matter now).

that1rowdyracer 03-22-2012 11:35 PM

well as you know I check the forums everyday, but I called an, texted and fb'ed him on the 17th when you messaged me

Ah thanks bro.

So, I assume this CEL means my itfp couch is fucked:

P0091 MAZDA - Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid 1 Control Circit Low Voltage

DeatschWerks pump time maybe?

phate 03-24-2012 08:57 PM

I think that's the code thrown when I forget to hook up my spill valve solenoid....could be wrong though.

I have to admit Enki, you are remarkably resilient. If I had some of the troubles you have had with your car, I would've sold mine a long time ago.

Now that you mention it, I remember having that DTC come up when I forgot to hook my spill valve up as well.

That doesn't explain the other symptoms:

4 PSI rail pressure with key on before cold start, and pressure dip only under high loads; everything else is to target.

Enki 03-26-2012 03:26 PM

New DW pump ordered; probably be here next week. Looking around for local options for a filter and regulator right now.

WTF is that tool, I want one!!!

Enki 04-06-2012 05:27 PM

Air chisel panel cutter.

Enki 04-06-2012 06:00 PM

Yeah so I fought with various tools trying to get the damn retaining nut off, and no bueno.

Gonna have to break down and drop the $80 on tool rental unless someone has another idea.

Enki 04-12-2012 06:20 PM

New pump, regulator, and filter is in (thanks @djuosnteisn!), but sadly, it did not fix my issue.

Funny thing is when cold, the pump holds pretty good (might dip down to 1580 or so) but when the engine is hot is when it falls to shit. Wonder if there's some sort of tolerance issue I'm missing or something.

Enki 04-13-2012 07:34 PM

FML.

So went and got the car washed earlier, and my fueling issues got WORSE (yes, even with the DW pump in place). Right now, I'm on a low mix (3-4 gallon maximum) of E and the car is having a very hard time keeping up with the 750 psi idle target (holding about a 100 PSI lower). Also, it pretty much never hits the 1700 PSI topend targets and unlike normal, when I blip the throttle the pressure rises with rpm almost linearly; it does not spike like it normally did.

This leads me to believe that my relief valve is going or is stuck partially open; regardless of that fact though, my pump will be pulled tomorrow for inspection.

Sadface.

A while back, I broke down and bought a PTP 2150 RV. It ran fine until about a week ago, and now I have the same exact symptoms as noted above, but worse. Idle pressure now ~200 ish (750 commanded) when hot.

To make matters worse, I *HAVE* to go to phoenix tomorrow. FML.
