The black death I have gotten is far worse then anything I have seen in any picture on here. The reason I believe I (EDIT) haven't had the spill valve issue's is because ALL of my driving is around town with constant RPM changes. The only time I had an issue is when I went from home to @phates to St Louis and back. That is the only highway driving it has had on E85 other then last weekend when some of the IL guys came down and we went to Nashville (45ish miles), and let's just say that wasn't normal highway driving.

Anytime I would do high RPM at low load my spill valve would stick on E85. MAF cals, revving to show off my 2-step, etc.

This guy! Gonna swap back to the royal purple I was using before, and see what happens.

Shot in the dark, but why not.

I'm going to hold out hope for the scraper fix, as I have yet to see Royal Purple anywhere, but T6 is relatively plentiful.

It's just the opposite here, royle purple for days but little to no T6. Shit even the PX sells RP and it's tax free.

Well, let us know how it goes. A fix for the black death in any form is welcome at this point.

I can change my oil at any time really, but I'd rather perform this test with a whole pump rather than my currently modified pump (no scraper in it). Also, I'd kind of rather stay on the T6 and get it fixed via installation of new scraper, but that's just me.

Do you guys think that it would be the weight of the oil causing the problem, or the T6 itself? I always run 5-30 Penn Plat/Ultra because of tight valvetrain tolerances. I've never gone thicker than recommended on OHC, and 5-30 is actually the thickest that I've ever used on any vehicle with OHC. The lower visc oils would probably gunk it up more I'd think though.

If this turns out to be somewhat related to T6, I'm going to write them a nasty letter

I could see arguing either way; the lower weight could cause more to seep past the seals and cause the issue faster, or it could mean that the fuel is able to carry it away easier.

...Or both; it's entirely possible that it will act exactly the same.

This will be hilarious if the T6 is the issue It's supposed to be formulated for diesel engines, maybe it really doesn't like ethanol.

I've also done UOAs with Blackstone on the 5-30 PP and they've told me that it was still fine at 6000 and 7500 miles. I change at 7500 if it's all highway, and 6000 if I beat on it more. I've never used e85 except for one tank though, so I have no idea what they would say after running e.

Well I finally just sent off my oil sample of the royal purple that I couldn't find for the past couple of months, and am planning on changing my oil probably wednesday and will send in that sample.

Since I seem to have thread jacked @Enki's thread I think I will go ahead and start one for this. Sorry bro.

It's cool, this pertains to fixing black death, so progress/updates on changing the oil are definitely accepted here.

Yup, spill valve only took a shit cause it was like 20 degrees...never had any build up at all...only had slight flasks of black spots when I sea flamed my gas tank....other than that, nothing...I pulled my pump like 20 tires when I did the.switch.

Originally Posted by Enki View Post

I would say at least ~4000miles...not much, but I haven't had a problem....I need to get more miles on full 85 to see problems....if I start to get problems, could just be the t6 oil then.

Idk how many ppl are running full 85, but from the thread lubrication etc that phate made when we switched, a lot.of ppl had a lot of miles on their car....I started with like 27000 miles on my speed, and no build up of black shit...I also sea foamed the gas tank, which I think help..no way of telling...cause bozo did the dame thing, and kinda worked too....I think the lower miles you have making switch to 85, way less problems for now.

Glad I found this thread.
I have been running e45ish off and on over the past month. I think I am having this same issue. On straight 93 I had no issues, but anytime I go WOT on approx 50/50 mix it happens. I cannot find my deep socket for my HPFP to check out my spill valve.

Here is a WOT log from 30 min ago. Yellow is when it hits. Is this the same for you?

Fresh oil change (last week), Mobile1 5w30.

Ugh, you don't have pressure drop, you have fuel cut. Go make a thread or fix the tune.

Well that was a guess of mine from what I saw....like phate and bozo started at like 50,000+ miles....and had problems.....but I guess my hypothesis was wrong then if ur getting the black death at 22k.

My bad....just trying to help with this shit too....I would like to see someone take apart the fuel line and see what it looks like.....or, drop the gas tank, clean that bitch clean...and see what happens, if any of that is causing it.

If it was something from the tank or pre-HPFP, Phate would know as he had an inline filter that would catch it. Filter was clean upon removal/inspection though, so no dice there.

My bad....just trying to help with this shit too....I would like to see someone take apart the fuel line and see what it looks like.....or, drop the gas tank, clean that bitch clean...and see what happens, if any of that is causing it.
Actually I went the first 5k with no gunk at all, and no issues. I swapped over at 42k miles. After 5k I had tons black death but still minimal issues.

I just sent my spare fuel injectors and fuel rail to injector rx today for cleaning and flow testing, will have the line out and take a look when I swap them.

UPDATE:

JBR has the specifications for the new scraper, and will be having several cut for me in the (fairly near) future.

Thanks @jbarone!
