The 51R battery has more than enough cold cranking amps to get you started on the coldest days. This battery was a stock battery in Honda's.

We have also had the most trouble free performance from just your standard batteries available at your local part houses. We have a local battery vendor that sells these units in their own label for a great discount, so check your area for similar specialists. The dry cell batteries also work well but require more attention if the car is going to sit for any period of time. Once their dead they are hard to bring back. Regardless which vendor you go with we have tested all the variations for fitment with our tray and all fit just fine. More pictures and release info tomorrow.

Matt

The first one that comes to mind is the Optima yellow top. The 51 series is what we run in the Civics/Integras. It always seemed to hold up. I've never ran one but I've always seen the commercials for the Die Hard battery and it's ability to start in harsh conditions.

Default Battery Trays are Now Available!

Happy Friday the 13th! Our new battery tray is now available here!

This tray is designed for 51R batteries and comes with a complete hardware kit for the ECU and battery tray.

We've modified our original design to include several extra mounting holes on the side for mounting a boost controller or anything else you may have a need for (not shown in photos).

See the install guide here.

Shown with a standard 51R battery (not included)

Shown with an Optima D51R Yellow Top (not included)

After reading as much battery info as I could stand, it seems that anything made by Johnson Controls gets the best consumer ratings.
(also, if searching for group 51r batteries by vehicle, the 2006 acura rsx type s takes this model)

Per Advance Auto Parts q&a, Johnson Controls makes the following battery:

I decided to go with this battery (20% online coupon first link):

51r battery 2nd link:
Buy AutoCraft Gold Battery, Group Size 51R, 500 CCA 51R-2 at Advance Auto Parts

Any installed pics of this? In the process of mine and the ECU wiring harness is a mess. Removed the wiring support bracket and the wires still dont want to get into place cleanly. Even removed some of the electrical tape and its still messy. Just wondering what others did. If I need to remove more tape and take it all the way back (including removing the white plastic wire protector)???

I read here that people have removed the white plastic part and had more slack to move the ECU around. Let me look around to see if i find the post.

Found the thread. Post # 356 http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...ml#post1497393

Removing the white plastic protector and separating the power and ground battery wires and then re-taping with electrical tape is the cleanest way to do it. You can even put some extra wire loom where the white plastic piece goes to clean the look up even more.

Be sure to mount the tray with all 3 mounting points. Install instructions will be emailed and be available on our website.

All installed, and honestly its a great kit. Really well made and fitment is perfect. Had no issues with bolt holes not lining up or anything like that. Couple tips to help:

1) Install the tray and then the ECU. There is tons of room, thanks to the slimmer battery , to install and bolt up the ECU after the tray is installed. One of the tray bolts is under the ECU and installing it is only really possible with the ECU not there (learnt that the long way). Also you will see how the white washer should be installed without losing them, as you have to hold one of the washers as you push the bolt through. If you do this out of the car, and then ever remove the ECU, all washers get lost unless you put them in the correct way (as they would fall into the tray).

2) I would definitly do what HTP suggest and remove all the electrical tape, white plastic etc, and then re-tape it up. I have yet to do this (no tape) but I will this weekend. It will just make the fitment of the ECU connector cleaner as they are taped tight.

Are the white plastic washers necessary? If so, I will need some more When I removed the ECU to install 3rd tray bolt, washer fell somewhere.

End result looks great, loads more room, and ECU is sitting nicely. I did this all without instructions in about an hour.

Question... The 51r batteries arnt like the small Brails where if you dont start them every day they loose charge are they? Reason I ask is because I only drive my car on the weekends and want to make sure the car starts when I want it to.

A standard replacement 51R will function just like the OEM battery. The 51R battery is an OEM battery for some Hondas.

Definitely install the tray before the ECU. The white nylon washer and isolator are for those concerned with their ECU being grounded to the tray. We have had no issues with running the ECU without the isolators. We will send you out more nylon washers tomorrow.

Tip:
Snapping the flanged isolator on the outside of the tray is the easiest way to do it. They will stay put unless you have the polished tray in which it will be helpful to spray them with an adhesive or a tiny dab of silicone. Center the flat nylon washer on the inside and stick the allen bolt through and secure the ECU to the tray.

Matt

You can try unplugging the battery when not in use or getting a battery tender for it.

Just picked up an Optima yellow top to install in it.

Directions from HTP look pretty straight forward

I could be wrong, but you may need the room this kit provides to get a 3" intake to fit properly (@ the very least it is going to rub the ecu).

Yeah, thats kinda what I was getting at. I don't want to just have the ECU laying somewhere and thats the only drawback I can see on upgrading the intake to the JBR.

It will be worth it. HTP's customer service is on point, and their products are oem quality.

anyone have this with the JBR 3.5" intake? the intake is right up against one of the ecu connectors, afraid I'll have to move the ecu from the side of the batt tray. It looked so good
