Hey Philip,

Can you post a couple of pics of the JBR "wide path" intake to show what's hitting? Even at 3.5 inches, there should be no issues with anything rubbing. For intakes that may wandering off the "path" though, I think we've got a simple solution for you which will make relocating the ECU from the battery tray unnecessary. If you could post some pics that would be great. Thanks!

Katie

Sure I will post pics when I get a chance. My seup is slightly different than most though, a 3071 with the 2.75" inlet mounted in the stock location.

heres some pics gt3071 like @802MS3 but my inlet is the regular 4'' , I have the @jbarone 3.5 intake love it, I have the @HTP tray and love it. Using both in conjunction with one another I had to relocate my ecu since the farthest ecu connector ( the one that would end up on the bottom circled red) would not allow me to connect the harness to the ecu. In another picture circled in red you will notice black electrical tape (on intake). Thats when the ecu was mounted to the tray, it had a tight fit and was compressing both the battery tray and against intake but it was on (ecu wire harness still not on).

A possible fix or revision if htp so chooses to can be seen in this next picture. There is about .75-1 inch of room on the side away from the ecu ( depending on how much you can push the fuse box harness down/ out of the way). Doing this would just mean the bolt holes on the tray would need slight relocation, doesnt look like much else would need changing.

On the Gen 1 there is a wire harness that runs between the strut tower and the battery tray not allowing it to be moved over any further. The Gen 2's don't have that harness there so there is room to move the tray over but we opted for a part that fit both cars.

Can someone see if moving the ecu towards the brake booster to the rear holes on the tray will work? If so then ill start putting two extra holes for those that need to push the ECU back.

Thanks
Matt

from what I remember the ecu wiring harness would not extend but il check after work. I thought about making extra holes ( in a lower triangle fashion) and mounting the ecu diagonally, but got too lazy and went to town with zip ties and rubber grommets!

This is partial my fault. I was supposed to let him use my wife's car for spec. Some things fell though and I was no able to drop it off to him for the day. Hopefully I will be able to get over there soon to assist him.

sorry Will

This might be an option for a battery if you are looking for a AGM

D5100 | XS Power | Real Power, Unreal Performance

can be had for ~250 via the web.
says 750CA cant find a CCA rating for it. but i would think with a CA that high the CCA should be enough at least in my area

Just curious, any reason you didn't use the mounting on the battery tray for the ECU?

Thanks
Matt

I would have but I wanted to mount the ECU in front so I could have a large open surface to mount my meth tank. I already have the mount fabbed up to mount to the tank and then it will use your stock holes and hardware to mount it where the ECU should go. If it wasn't for that, it would have been super easy to use your supplied parts and mount location to bolt the ECU to the outside of the box.

I relocated my battery because couldnt fit my optima in the stock tray (too small in all dimensions and i didnt care to get a new one that fit. Fuck mazda for using odd sizes)
I don't particularly like having my battery relocated. I'd rather have it up front. I have just enough room for a tiny battery, and I dont need much else other than that since I don't have a big car stereo or anything...

Waiting to hear about MS6 trays!

Totally understand. Thanks for the quick reply!

BTW, we will be releasing direct bolt in MS3 Meth tanks within the next 2 weeks. Just in time for the cooler weather! lol

Update:

All battery trays produced/shipped after 8/14/12 have an extra set of holes to push the ECU back if needed for your setup. Very few people will need this but we wanted our product to be as compatible with other manufacturers products as possible.

Thanks
Matt

So just move all 4 bolt holes back towards firewall? What distance and I will just make the holes myself as I got an early one.

The rear bolt holes will now be the front bolt holes on the ECU. Simply bolt your ECU to the tray using those 2 holes then mark and drill the rear holes using a 5/16" drill bit. The 5/16" drill bit is slightly larger than the holes on the ECU to allow use of the isolators. I will have Katie post up some pics tomorrow.

Did your ECU have interference with anything?

Matt
