IIRC meth is WAY more corrosive than eth, so if you're running 100% meth and the pump can handle it, it *may* work with e85 as well. Probably best to contact the MFG.

Anyone know if there are similar issues with running 100% e85 in an aluminum tank as meth? Because that's what I'm doing when they release their 3 gallon tank. Maybe I'll just make my own at my uncles shop out of Stainless sheet metal...

E85 will be just fine in these tanks. There will be a limited number of these tanks available configured as a surge tank.

These tanks will be on sale the first of the year.

Thanks
Matt

If you just want to use the meth tank as a 5th/6th port tank that shouldn't be an issue.

I am going to do exactly what @r3al_gib; is doing, 91 in the main tank for DI and a separate tank for e85 for my 5th/6th port. I'm using the SS controller, FPR, a legit fuel pump, and two injectors.

Awesome, I'm definitely going with this tank then! It will be a separate tank, but that's cool you'll have some configured as a surge tank.

Consider mine preordered!

El_Diablo 12-06-2013 05:17 AM

Gotcha, sounds good. Marks setup works really well as evident by his numbers. You'll like that method.

Gettin' ready to have these remade in complete stainless. I have a company willing to do it. I need my car back to get it done tho. Will not be cheap. I measured around 7 quarts of total volume.

Looks good! Location and fill neck wise this is very close to our design. Ours is much larger volume and incorporates a pump mount. (make sure you keep anti-seize on those threads or you will find that lid impossible to remove)

Stainless isn't necessary. We were very gung-ho about releasing these tanks until we talked to every meth injection manufacturer and they were very adamant about corrosion. It will corrode over night they said. Well it doesn't.

I will go into more detail as we set to finally release these. We will have an initial number of these available and if the interest is there, we will do a nice group buy.

Matt

NCspecV81 11-30-2014 08:23 PM

What gauge aluminum are you using? No fear of the pump jolting around on hard launches screwing up the tank? That's the only reason a mount wasn't incorporated into this one. Did not want the that stress from hanging the pump off the side of it.

neganox 12-10-2014 04:52 PM

I'll take one. That tank looks aces man. I'm currently utilizing my WW reservoir as my meth tank. Is there truth to tanks having to be vented? Is that tank vented?

3 quarts is not going to be enough for me so I'm very interested in this. Glad I finally found the subsection Matt haha.

Matt@HTP 01-04-2015 10:57 AM

Just to add a little more info on our methanol testing and its corrosive effects.

It is true that 100% methanol is corrosive to aluminum, but for it to take effect, it takes a very, very long time. We have conducted a long term test because this face value claim pops up immediately when discussing it. We have tested this on cast alum, 3003 alum, 5352 alum (what we use for tanks), 6061 alum, & anodized alum (5352 & 6061). Due to the protective oxide layer that forms on the surface of alum when exposed to air, it is protected from corrosion for the most part.

Where we saw any type of corrosion was on cast, and over the length of 2 years, it was very minimal. All types of alum did surprisingly well over this period, the only spots that we saw signs of any type of etching is where we had put a scratch through the oxide layer and the HAZ area around a weld. Even this was very minimal and would have no effect on a methanol injection system. Anodized alum had zero effects.

This was all tested with 99.999% meth. Keep in mind that Methanol is hydrophilic, meaning that it attracts water and will absorb it, self diluting. So fresh methanol was constantly changed to keep the purity levels up. As I have studied these results and researched findings from corrosion engineers, I'm a little let down by this claim that everyone spouts so freely. Just as little as a couple percent of dilution of water, and the corrosive effects are gone.

What does this all mean? Maybe its time to finally release these tanks.

Got Meth?

WetzMS3 03-31-2015 08:47 AM

I cannot wait to get my hands on this and see what HTP has come up with. Sounds like the mad scientist will want my new meth setup active this week, so soon I'll need that extra capacity and sexy welds behind my bumper.

Putin 2.3T 03-31-2015 10:55 AM

@Matt@HTP; yup.. I'm back. This time I'm here to bug you until you release this meth tank. I have two options right now. I either run your tank or I run trunk-mount. Now since I own a MS3, that would put the methanol right in the cabin. Imagine if I were to get in a roll-over crash and I'm smoking. I'd be lit up in invisible flames and the firefighters wouldn't even know that i'm burning alive. Would you want that on your conscience?! WOULD YOU?!

I hope you can sleep at night knowing that there's the possibility that somebody out there could be risking their lives right now running a trunk-mount meth tank when they could be running your meth tank instead. Think of the children when they come home to find out that their parents died in a horrific crash that they could have survived had they not used an in-trunk meth tank. Then they'll look at you with tears in their eyes and ask "Why Matt, why didn't you release the meth tank soon enough? My mommy and daddy would still be alive." You heartless bastard..

After buying an HTP intake, I'm a belieber in HTP products, quality, fit and finish was excellent, the packaging alone (EVERYTHING bubble wrapped) was better than competitors that I've had intakes from.

I'll believe you this time Matt..

Recently having concerns about the quantity of meth I spray vs. capacity of my current tank and future tank, I spoke with a little birdy on the street corner. He said the capacity of @Matt@HTP;s newest creation will be 2.5+ gallons for sure when all is said and done.

I was relieved, until I realized I was talking to a bird.

youngwonder 04-26-2015 07:26 PM

@Matt@HTP; did you show the meth tank at ENM?

NCspecV81 04-26-2015 08:11 PM

I don't recall HTP being at ENM.

neganox 04-26-2015 09:41 PM

No HTP @ ENM. I AM DISAPPOINT. (unless the reason is you were busy making a fuck ton of meth tanks.)

adamizme 04-26-2015 10:35 PM

This thread is full of broken promises...

I've had to reduce nozzle size because Canadian/MZ5 washer fluid tank isn't big enough to make it through an entire session at the track. Let's see some love... finally!

The tank did not make it to ENM due to some time constraints (not related to the tank). I apologize to those that were looking forward to seeing it there, but here's a peek.

This makes me think about that song about jizzing in one's own pants.

adamizme 04-26-2015 10:46 PM

Talk about customer service. That's exactly the sort of love I was asking for, and quick as shit! (Just coincidence I'm sure)

So... Just need a link to click and buy.

Putin 2.3T 04-27-2015 02:08 PM

I don't know just how much @Matt@HTP; wants me to reveal but I want to let you guys that Matt's design for this meth-tank is INCREDIBLY versatile and expandable. At the moment Matt is working on a meth tank/fuel cell for me that will accommodate auxiliary pumps for my port-injection setup. This should slipstream the PI system and make it damn near plug-n-play. 8800ccs of methanol here I come!

This would be stellar if something would fit up front. Ive been looking at the Aeromotive Fuel Cells with built in pump.

Comes with the float switch installed, low level LED, integrated pump mounting. It really doesn't get any easier.
