Headlight damage from sun.

3 Attachment(s)
Went in today on my lunch break to get some answers about my headlights obviously being damaged from the sun. They DO look like scuffs/scratches, but there are no other such type scratches anywhere else on my car. It's from the sun. From the moment I walk in, I can tell it's gonna be a bad experience. David, their parts manager is some local hillbilly who took 20 minutes to help the customer he was on the phone with when I walked in. THEN he gets to me. I explain that I'm here for the damage and some touch up paint from the lovely TX highways and their rocks. Takes him about 10 minutes to look up that info, and go outside to retrieve my VIN. He looks at the headlights while he's out there. Tells me "Billy over there" can help me out while he goes to I guess figure out where this paint is. I wait for Billy over there. When he's done with his business, I approach and ask if he has one second for a quick question, because good old David said so. He rudely snaps "I will when I'm done with the customer I'm helping." Ok, my bad, he was alone and I didn't realize he was with a customer. I thought he just took forever to get a fucking VIN number as well. He had to sit down in the car to look at the sticker instead of looking at the windshield, but that's only an unfair assumption on my part. He might have just been tired. Off track. I suck it up, and try to pay for my paint. Which is an entire different pain in the ass. Meanwhile, Billy wraps up with the customer I GUESS he was with, I don't know. I look at him, and in walks in a new customer. "Hey, I'm Billy, what can I help ya with!". WTF? I wait it out and pay. Debit's a different receipt and they couldn't break a $100, decisions, decisions. THEN Billy goes outside. Comes back to me staring, and asks what he can do. I want it covered under warranty, not to be told to go to auto zone and fix it. 20k miles.

Go outside, show him what I showed old David, and he quickly snaps, "That's scuffed, not covered under warranty."

I don't think so, I'm the only person to wash it since I've purchased it, and that was 16k miles ago. Wasn't like that when I got it, or before Oklahoma turned into Death Valley. Either way, I want warranty to cover it and not have shitty headlights that everyone obviously thinks I scuffed.

Nope, that's definitely scratched and not covered under warranty. I have to go to Norman and see the mazdaspeed dealer there. All the while, he's being a dick, turning his back on me and trying to walk away as I look stunned. I didn't do this. There are NO OTHER SCRATCHES ON MY SHIT.

Next step, fucking guys. I swear.

The pictures are not great, but I tried with my phone. First one is just to show I'm not an asshole and I wash my car.

You might be able to cut that down with a drill and some compound.

If you get a headlight restoration kit (and be sure to mask off your paint), I'd bet you could clear that right up.

I'm sure I can fix it, but the point is I want them to do the work while I'm fully under warranty. Fuck them, worst dealership I've ever been to. Now I'll drive to Norman.

I hear you 100% about being under warranty, but I wouldn't trust douches like that to install a new headlight without jacking it up or scratching your paint anyway.

Where do you live Braxton?

Yeah, but I have my reasons for wanting them to fix this. They can ruin whatever they want at whichever dealership, but I'll take before and after pictures and the customer's always right.

Fort Sill, OK

Try another dealership. Sounds like you're dealing with a bunch of lazy fags.

Gasp! Headlights oxidize? Who knew?

Call the whaaammbulance!

Get some compound and polish that out. Throw some sealant on there and be done. Wax them every time you wax your car.

I don't care if you don't care about your shit. 20k miles and this crap? There are 07's and up rolling around perfectly clean still. Shut up with your redundant ass advice.:You_Rock_Emoticon:

Maybe the '07's with the 'perfectly clean' lights just knew how to take care of their cheap ass plastic lights?

I_Heart_Haters 07-22-2011 10:42 AM

I can't tell either. From my iPhone it seems to be oxidation which is pretty normal. Maybe a little bit early to start but it does happen.

If they're scratches, idk how OP could think Mazda would be responsible for them...

[Braxton] 07-22-2011 11:00 AM

Already said they do look like scratches but I expect more out of my 20 thousand dollar car than some cheap shit. Sorry you have low standards and obviously only expect garbage. This cars less than a year old. Go be a dick troll elsewhere.

Take a better pic.

My '09's headlights are in good shape few scratches, little oxidation. I seal and wax them every time I seal and wax the car. I also use correct wash methods to minimize marring and scratching.

triplejumper18 07-22-2011 11:25 AM

$20k ain't shit anymore.

I also doubt your warranty covers oxidized headlights. Just fix it yourself as it's cheap and easy.

Raider 07-22-2011 11:34 AM

Yeah, our 2007 CX-7 had that same shit, but not until this year. I used a headlight restore kit, got all but the cracks in plastic.

Fuck that dealer, you were fucked from the minute you walked in.

[Braxton] 07-22-2011 10:06 PM

See, I'm not being an unruly dick here, my car is NOT THAT OLD. Got her in September. Paid off already, I just want decent parts. No excuse for this shit.

alochsta 07-23-2011 07:11 AM

If you have it paid off already, use the extra money in your pocket to purchase some 2011 headlights to replace your jacked up ones. They're better anyway.

Bam, helpful shit. I'll let the dealer know they can get me some 11 headlights if they can't fix the 10's.

Again people, I'm fully capable of restoring the headlights, but would rather like new ones or their work to fix them for future problems. Come on. I paid for it, I want it to stay nice. They have some sort of obligation still while I'm under warranty.

NCZ13 07-23-2011 10:40 AM

Warranty pays for what parts are on the car per the vin, not what parts you want to upgrade to.

at 20k miles it should most definitely be covered, oxidation happens, but definitely not within the first year. My 08s still look pretty good albeit some normal road wear and tear.

Weve covered things for less at my work.

Take it to another dealer.

However you can see swipe marks in a couple of those pictures. Which is why the dealer you were at concluded they were scuffs.

The dealer isnt going to eat 2 grand in headlight parts when Mazda decides they want them back for inspection and determine they are unwarrantable.

Braxton, you know what will work? Posting more pics of your wife.

Won't do shit to make you feel better though, it'll just make us feel better.

[Braxton] 07-27-2011 06:31 AM

Went to the dealership in Norman where they actually work, said he saw a bulletin about it and will call me back
