Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer

Has anyone been using this? I wash my car about once a week. I dry it with a microfiber drying towel and then usually wipe it down with some microfibers and some Ultimate Quick Detailer, wheels and eberything (except windows I use rain-x) But I've started to notice some hazing in some areas. I don't know if I'm using the Detailer TOO often and it building up access is some places, or what's going on. You can only notice it in direct sunlight looking @ the correct angle. Any suggestions?

Mothers Shotwime is MUCH better. I recomeend it.

GINA 06-30-2011 08:09 AM

Are you using different cloths for the wheels and the body of the car? [please say yes]

16-driver 06-30-2011 08:20 AM

The answer for me would be yes. I have the same problem, and I'm not using it again. I actually used 3 different towels.

Or, I did something wrong.

GINA 06-30-2011 08:25 AM

I just popped on the Meguiar's forums real fast and apparently if the QD is applied in high humidity, it may leave a haze. Not sure where you're located OP, but god knows Baltimore has wicked high humidity right now.

I use the (meguires or mothers...dont remember which) Black detailer. Its made for black paint, doesn't leave residue, and help the paint look darker and glossier longer.

I used it after a waxing and washing. Never had a problem and don't apply in direct sunlight.

Yes, I go through 3-4 towels everytime, between car, wheels, windshield and then fenderwells and exhaust tips.

I'm in Richmond, humidity is average...

I might lay off for a while, and wash it without using it. and switch over to mothers showtime.

Yeah, I think the instructions call for this but here it goes. You don't want to apply it in direct sunlight, it's kinda like waxing your car. When applying, make sure you have a clean microfiber towel and immediately wipe it off after spraying.

I have been using it for a couple of years and it's been great for me.

Did mine in the garage, but it was humid for sure. I don't see how humidity plays a factor though. Tiny microscopic water vapors in the air causes hazing?

.

so.....you apply it direct sunlight, and then wonder why you have problems?

The only time i use that stuff is when i clay the car

NinjaT1985 06-30-2011 11:01 AM

Well unfortunately I don't have shade @ my apartment complex or a garage, so sometimes I have no choice unless I just don't apply it...

Like I said I'm going to switch over to Mothers and hopefully fix the hazing

Blackspeed 06-30-2011 11:10 AM

ummmm...I dont think applying a different brand of quick detailer is going to solve your problem.

If you had a choice between not washing your car, or washing it with sandpaper, what would you choose?

NinjaT1985 06-30-2011 11:18 AM

:paranoid: having YOU wash it...

Blackspeed 06-30-2011 11:22 AM

Dude i feel your pain, as I live in the city in an apt bldg as well, but I also know enough to at least find a coin operated car wash to use as cover if I really wanted to "quick detail" my car

NinjaT1985 06-30-2011 11:41 AM

Most of the time I do (wipe it off in the shade, trees and such or go to parents house to clean lol), I'm just saying a few times when I've gotten bird shit, or a few water spots from a sprinkler I'll just wipe it off with some quick detailer in the sun, not the "whole car". I get compliments everywhere about how clean I keep my car, so I must be doing somthing right... but I just started to notice haze a few days ago. Maybe its just the black and the way the sun is hitting it... I duno.

By the way, this stuff works great on wheels, keeps brake dust to a minimum...

i'm about finished with my first bottle of the meguiars, i liked it much more than the mothers quick detailer, but as others mentioned humidity and direct sunlight are no-nos. black cars are the worst for this kind of thing, my father-in-law used the meguiars product on his copper red miata the other night and it looked awesome.

bertrand_CX_7 07-01-2011 08:43 AM

Using this since 2007. One of the great product I found here in the US.

We use it on all our car, Grey silver, red mica and white. No problem at all. We wash earlier in the morning and late in the afternoon. No problem.

No problem so far and all the 3 cars looks like new. No scratches visible (even with some light in the darness, that where you'll see invisible scratches that are not noticable under the day light).

FYI: We always do hand wash. But we have basic rules that we always follow: We never wash without going on the car with a high pressurized water && soap. Just to get rid of the sand and dust seating on the paint that will potentially scrub it. before starting the wash manual process. Always start from the top to the buttom

We got a Karcher high pressure washer at sams last year, saving us the trip to the car wash place. Taping it to the water softener line and it's doing the work just great.

So this is a great stuff out there. Just make sou

I use Optimum No Rinse wash diluted to quick detailer strength. I didn't like ONR as a wash but as a QD its good. Never had any issues with hazing or anything.

I like Optimum's products as well. I actually love their NRW. Works well, and saves tons of time. Not to mention it gets me by my city's water restrictions. I prefer their quick detailer to Meguire's as well.

Why don't you like the NRW for washing?

It seems like ONR is only good to "wash" an already clean car....

I live in a house with a hose and basically unlimited water so I don't need to worry about restrictions so I'd just as soon do a full on Meg's Gold Class bucket wash than use the ONR. It's good for QD though.

How and what do you use to wash your micro fiber towels? Could be the way you wash your micro fiber towels..

JNR5005 07-08-2011 03:01 AM

Yup, with the humidity it can be next to impossible. Also to add, even thow you can use megs ultimate in direct sun, the surface still has to be cool or it will absolutely streak bad.

vrspeed10 07-18-2011 06:58 AM

It's the humidity and Also wax build up. You need a wax cleaner if the haze is happening a lot. Make sure the towel you are using is clean and only us it for the quick detail and when your done go back over with another clean towel to help pickup any buildup or place you missed. I always try and wash when the sun is setting. And never wax unless you clay your car first. Ok I am done..
