Is it still powered by the obd2 port? I didn't think that there was much power available on the port. It's why I was wondering about the screen.

Yup, and hence it has a power on/off button.

Just to add, they are not going to discontinue the V2 AP. It will still tune the car, log, etc. just fine. What you are getting here is the bigger screen and multiple parameter viewing.

Sigh....Guess Cobb got me for another 6 hunid.

I have the number 13 AP ever...and I've been hanging onto it as long as possible...but for this... for this, I may have to give it up. This V3 looks amazing.

The new one had better have an auto-off feature, if they expect you to turn the thing off manually every time then that's just sad...

God damn Cobb, in the last 2 weeks I bought the Torque App for my phone, plus the mazda PIDS, plus a splitter cable and OBD2 bluetooth dongle. Not to mention a mount for the ap. Now its all usless.

Shit if cobb does a buyback or upgrade I am sure they will give you atleast $400 maybe more towards the V3.

From the PDF I just download it says u can use ur v2 tunes with no proble and transfers 40% faster

I think the 2 versions have a different customer in mind. Some people want to flash and forget while others love to monitor constantly. For those that don't care for looking or installing this in their car, the V2 and the V3 can coexist for different customers with different needs/wants.

I think there will be a buyback cause it makes sense for them. I bet thier incremental cost for these is low compared to the cost they sink in to developing the software and cracking the ECUs. For every used one that sells, they lose $$ compared to someone buying a new one, since the real value is in the license, not the hardware.

Simpler, if they sell you a $650 one with their incremental cost of $200, they make $450 today, but lost $450 tomorrow cause someone bought yours used instead of buying new.

If they sell you a $200 V3 if you trade in your V2, they make no money today, but make $450 tomorrow cause that someone bought new because used wasn't available.

If they sell you a $300 V3 if you trade in your V2, they make $100 today and $450 tomorrow.

It's a sliding scale, at $450 credit, everyone upgrading probably trades in. At $250 credit to upgrade, nobody does, electing instead to resale. Obviously they are better off with a buyback at some credit, over $250 per AP.

And let's face it, they have the mazda market pretty well cornered everyone needs tuned, and you can still be tuned with a V2. Every used AP that hits the used market is a new sale that doesn't happen cause there is not really a competing solution in terms of marketshare.

If you did something like a $450 credit, I'd highly consider it, especially if you couple that with a group buy price. In fact, I'd probably be in. And I just spent time in a different post stating why I didn't think most people needed this upgrade.

The "used" marketplace is an issue for any company and product when the product does not lose value quickly due to either wear/tear or functionality. Electronics rarely suffer from physical wear and tear and vehicle ECU pass-through flashing retains the same protocols over many years.

Imagine where the computer market would be without software that always "pushes" the need for higher hardware requirements.

However while the main functionality of the AP remains the same in terms of flashing, the added display functionality is worth a certain price. Without removing used/old APs from the marketplace their price will drop to the point that they will still exchange hands.

I just don't see them offering a trade in program. Maybe a lower price point on the V2 to compete with the used market better is all. New one is nice, but I'll be sticking with my DashHawk and V2 for awhile I guess.

@Lex; I received some information from a pretty reliable source that deals with cobb heavily on the subaru side, was wondering if you can confirm this.


The release date was adjusted to tomorrow, but I was told that is for PRE ORDERS only and they still will not be shipping until Aug 1st.

If I had the V3 I definitly wouldn't leave it mounted when I leave the car. Some Stanced Subaru meth addict will probably see it try to make some money, or not realize we don't have the same ECU.

Opposed to my somewhat ancient looking DH that I just leave there 24/7 and people think it has the same display as indiglo watches.

My wife's car was broken into because some meth head thought that the remote to her car stereo was an MP3 player. They'd probably think that the new ap was a fancy phone or something, and when they realized that it wasn't, it'd probably just get tossed in the trash.

Then again, I live in the ghetto.

I'm down to upgrade just for the faster flash. Rest is icing.

Once these get out more, it would be cool if someone could confirm if they will work with a splitter in tandem with an Aeroforce Interceptor. I know that people said an OBDII splitter did not work with the v2 and interceptor. I would really like to be able to have multiple parameters monitored with a min/max value which is a feature the interceptor does not have. Of course, I would have a hard time spending the extra money unless some sort of rebate was offered on the v2's. Good job Cobb, this thing looks sweet.

This. For those of us that pay for dyno time, paying for time while its flashing sucks. I usually go with several maps pre-prepared but I still spend more time flashing than testing. I am sure cobb's in house tuners will be able to work faster too.

I haven't seen any specs on how much faster, but I'm hoping for at least half the current flash time.

according to the dealer training pdf it "can flash up to 44% faster"

Meh personally i think that is a terrible idea.
I work in networking and wireless is not stable enough for me to want it to be writing data to my ECU, one bit gets mixed up or whatnot bricked ecu. There are ways you could make there that doesnt happen but i would imagine it would be slower reflashing than just plugging in and doing it that way. I like cables lol

Flashing time and logging rates are also tied to the ecu itself. Even with v2b a gen2 flashes and logs at a higher rate than a gen1.

This is something I'm interested in finding out. I had assumed that the 44% number was for Mazdas, but it's possible, since that was quoted from the dealer guidebook for all v3s, that we'll flash slower than, say, the Subaru. It's all speculation until someone with a stopwatch tests it out.

For 250$ I can trade in.... for more, no way. mazda AP have a very high resale value here.

As with any product, the used-market value will change when a newer iteration is released.

True, it'd be hard to beat just reselling here and getting a new AP, even with the convenience that trading in would offer.
Looks way sexy though Cobb can't wait to get my hands on one next year.
