Nano hope you get a turbo under warranty. Worst case they go pretty cheap used with low miles. I wanna know what deni is getting with that sleeper.

Anyone have any idea why Nano's turbo blew? I don't know if I should be excited or worried for tomorrow. Last thing I need is a blown turbo.

It's tough to be certain, but I would guess some form of mechanical defect. Past shut downs when the turbo was really hot can contribute to oil coaking or something along those lines to initially weaken it. I don't think a dyno loading issue could cause a boost spike large enough to split the shaft...assuming a split shaft is what happened. I gave Alex over 40 logs and my stock turbo is fine.

The last turbo I lost was a variable geometry design with 74K. The seals leaked some oil and after doing a lot of city driving with idling the blades binned up in the quick spooling position. I then got on it hard and the blades couldn't open up to increase flow and lower boost pressure and it popped.

When I worked at Ford, the ECM's were coded with the VIN, initial factory tune number, updated tune number and/or similar things which identified the vehicle/ECM join. I would assume other manufacturers have a similar strategy, but I could be wrong.

While bribery is wrong, I have seen/heard of my fellow techs taking bribes to overlook things...especially with diesel powered trucks. You can always walk out to the stall where your car is and ask to speak to the technician. Some manufacturers want freeze frame data or the like for warranty work, but again I don't know about Mazda.

As one guy said...you could always have a shorted section of the ECM...but that might raise questions.

I have to admit, my butthole did tighten up a bit when i was straping down my car after seeing that turblew incident, but the end result has been well worth it. Don't worry @Nano91; we got your back.

Glad to meet you all. We had a full day full of ups and some downs. Nanos situation is definitely very unfortunate. It looks like it was a defective turbo having failed with so few miles. Boost was in check on the oem 2 port solenoid and the turbo let go at 6k RPM and 15psi. I hope warranty take care of it and if not I can help locate a turbo to get the car back on the road.

The dyno is reading "low" so the numbers to compare are the ones from the beginning and end of the session. I hope for a smooth session tomorrow and looking forward to seeing you guys!
