Well I finished up my tune yesterday with the one and only @Lex; and let me say, I am very satisfied. Getting tuned was definitely an adventure and I learned some stuff along the way.
I am completely in love with my car now, and this was definitely the best mod I've done to it. Lex was able to pull 54 extra horsies out of the car. Before the tune, I was barely able to break traction in 1st. Now, I'm breaking traction in 3rd. What was great is that Lex spent some extra time with me to make sure I had a safe tune. I was not expecting that and was very pleased that he did that for me.We started to see some kr near the end and had to dial back a little bit. I was able to get to 294/349 before Lex dialed back timing a little bit in the 5k rpm range to reduce knock. My final revision gave me 292/343, my goal had been 285. I'll get on a dyno either next week or the week after to see what numbers are really being put down.
I'll definitely be coming back to Lex when I'm ready for E85 in the Spring or Summer.

Here's some VD graphs for your viewing pleasure. 1st graph is the last revision. 2nd is the first, second, and last. The 3rd is all graphs throughout the tune. The last graph is a datalog taken for the base logs.

EDIT: Dug in my computer and found base logs to begin the tune.
Lex likes this.

A little over 2 months after Lex had spent some extra time giving me a safe tune. But keep in mind after the 1 month of actual tuning time ended, the 2 day maximum for receiving a new revision ended. So I wasn't getting revisions as often. A total of 11 revisions

Can't wait for my tune. These numbers look promising. I have the CNT catless dp awaiting install and I'm going to do a fmic with tr6 core and possible a wide path intake. I wanna break 300whp I think it should be easy. Now I just need more money lol

That's a really good pickup there, especially given your mods. You guys must have some decent fuel out there and I'm sure the lower temps helped. What was the outside air temp for that run?

My buddy has a few more mods than that and is sitting around 265-270WHP on a modded OTS which is pretty normal numbers for the gas out here.

Near 300 on pump gas alone is pretty badass!

The pleasure was mine. Sometimes tunes take a little longer than expected either because we get bogged down or issues come up; but the Stratified philosophy is that we never have a car leave without being properly sorted out and the owner at ease and hopefully happy.

I would be excited if I was you. Why fmic tho? You have a good possibility of breaking 300. That was my original goal then I started adding things up and realized I probably wouldn't get there. I got closer than I thought tho.

Lex did say he it seemed like I have good fuel in my area. I've been fueling up at the same pump for over 3 months now. The outside temp when I took my final log was 57*F.

Thanks so much Lex, it was all greatly appreciated. I'm deeply in love with my car since we started the tune.

@CrawlingMS3; fmic because I live in Texas and it's hot year round. Car is always heat soaked and I just like fmic more lol. And e85 is no option for me because there's e85 stations near me. But meth is still on the table

A TMIC helps in two ways:

1. In terms of flow and pressure drop across the IC. Flow is increased due to the lower pressure drop across a bigger core

2. In terms of cooling. An FMIC is obviously better since it doesn't get heatsoaked but a larger core does cool better once air is moving across it.

As for "how much" it will help, it is hard to speculate because there are lots of variables to consider and they are related and each car reacts differently. I would venture to say that if all was kept constant and just a TMIC changed on his car he should be over the 300 mark.

Thanks. Just curious what you were thinking specifically in relation to his setup. Seems like he might be limiting himself a little by not running a TMIC, the FMIC obviously has more power potential but has some drawbacks such as install time, cost and the larger piping means it isn't a as direct passage for moving the cool air.

wouldn't the tmic limit him more? Especially when shooting for bigger who goals?

A TMIC definitely allows for faster response but on the K04 it's minimal. A TMIC would help - any flow and cooling will help of course. But to really get you a number of how much, that is just bench racing until we put it on the car and go through the tuning process with the new part. Could be between 5-15whp from my experience.

The main reason I'm going for a TMIC is cost. A FMIC is just not anywhere in my budget. I'm thinking either ETS or Corksport

I wouldn't recommend a TMIC for that high of numbers, but if you are shooting for sub 350 you are probably good with a TMIC.

IIRC the freek was running an ETS TMIC on is BNR S3 and broke the 400hp mark

I'm only shooting for about 315-320 so a TMIC is good with me. I was just comparing the CS and the ETS TMICs. The ETS seems to be favored here on the forum and seem to have better power outputs, but is $600. The CS TMIC is $400 and doesn't seem to be as good of an option as the ETS but is more in my budget.
I'll just have to make a decision this Summer once it warms up

The fmic set up I am doing is about 600. Will support over 400whp. Just FYI. You can do it too.

I can't wait to get more parts and start working on getting a tune made for me. I am going FMIC since I am in Texas and the heat is a bitch during the summer.

@Lex; since I thought of this. Would it be better to do a tune say when the temps are starting to go up? Like around the 70s-80s? To have a tune that would work well for both Texas summers and winters? I would like to be over 300whp once I am fully bolted as that is my goal on my ko4...

Yeah I'm going to be doing the cxracing piping kit for 320 shipped and a treadstone tr6 core for like 250 plus new t-bolts because cxracing's tbolts suck. Don't have to modify the crash bar or replace it and will cover anything the little k04 can cough up.

Thought I would chime in here since I was going to do the same thing. On a stock k04 your gains will be minimal and a lot of money for a few horsepower. I would spend that money on a bigger intake. Also having a fmic will increase your coolant temps in the summer. you can stay out of boost with high BATs but having hot coolant temps in no bueno. If your end goal is 300 range stick with a tmic. If they are more then go with a fmic but also consider getting a better radiator at some point. Just my opinion

Already ahead of you, I am picking up an HTP 3" intake after Christmas and will be selling the CorkSport one. I plan on going BT in the next couple of years or so, so I am thinking FMIC for that anyways.

Also going with an htp 3" intake. I'm hoping the tr6 core won't block as much air as the tr8.

Actually, a FMIC or any other upgraded IC plays a vital role in additional HP.
When I was running the OEM top mount heatsoak was always an issue.
Once I added a FMIC, BATs stay low and they drop very quickly.

Haven't seen many guys upgrade their radiators unless they are up in the 500+ HP range.

Get with Edge on that HTP, that is where I am getting mine from for a great price.

To keep this topic going, the FMIC I am looking at is the CPE DeltaCore, since that is the case, guess I would need to look into improving coolant temps as well...
