Stratified Logo Design Contest
 

We're looking for a new logo and I know there are some very talented people on this forum so decided to make a contest out of it. The rules, prizes, and some hints are below:

Submission Rules:

- The design must be original
- Submissions must be made by April 11, 2013 midnight.
- Multiple submissions from the same individual are allowed as are improvements to submissions so don't leave this to the last minute!
- Only 1 design will be chosen by me :).
- The winner will be announced April 13, 2013 by midnight.
- Submissions are to be made to this thread in jpg/png format and I will move them to the OP. If you don't want to show your submission publicly, simply PM me. I will put all submitted work in the OP of this site by April 11, 2013.
- The final product must be in an editable, vector Adobe format.
- The rights to the chosen artwork will fully belong to Stratified.
- The logo must be static - no animations!
- As submissions come in, I will drop hints on what I like and don't like and make further suggestions.


Some Further Guidelines and Hints

- If you are going to use a font, use the BATTLEFIELD font. This is what we have been using all over our site and here (See Stratified Tuned in my signature)
- Colors: Keep the number of colors low. Blue is our main color, red, and white are nice and complimentary.
- Complexity: This logo should be instantly and easily recognizable as Stratified. You can use text and any other art but simpler is better. This will go on shirts, lanyards, decals, etc and these generally are not complex.
- Themes to work with:

-Turbocharging/Forced Induction
-Performance
-Tuning
-Boost, boost control
-Direct Injection
-NOT car or model brand specific

- Check out the logo on the Guardian Angel


PRIZES

The winner will have his/her artwork represent Stratified!!

@Lex; Are you set on that particular Font? Any specific things you are looking for?

Thanks for the firs submission it looks great. That is the font we have been using but I am also open to creative suggestions.

I like the gauge and progression from red to white. I feel the design is a little dark though. I also like the first of the 3 the most.

Something quick hard to do from the sandbox I am limited on what I can reference while deployed. An updated pic from the Guardian Angel I have some more ideas in the works.

Wouldn't let me go back and edit last post to add my last pic. I drew it "the first pic" in pen so I can' erase the wings. Remove the wings to get a full vision of the drawing.

Very nice drawing skills. I do like the turbo in the background more than the wings. If you can blend the text into the turbo somehow that would be sweet.

@Lex; I like to keep things simple and easy to read. Here is a quick mock up I did on my phone. Gives it kind of a "stamped" or "approved by" appearance. Obviously you could do it in what ever color you like...

Thanks Matt - I like simple as well. I was hoping to have some sort of graphic as well added to the text.

I was toying with the idea of adding a graphic to the background but then I felt like I lost my "stamped" look. Ill keep playing with it.

I have to call em like I see em. The "member" on the unicorn was a nice touch though. Maybe if you turned it into a tach needle or something?

Noone will ever forget a pu smile. Maybe your logo in the front grille of the specific vehicles you work with? It would look cool in black on a white t-shirt or in reverse colors on a black t-shirt.

I am not an arts guy, but maybe just see if this inspires others. I like the idea of a simple design, so no matter the media (t-shirt, decal), it's easy to print and sticks out without a ton of detail that washes out.

dont have PS but reversing the unicorn and applying the tach motif would be somewhat of an improvement.

Dan, that tach is off on the unicorn because something tells me he's redlining.

On a serious note, I think this is enough for the well endowed unicorn lovers.

Yup yup. With a mirror image of the unicorn he'd be at 8k. For sure.

I couldn't come up with anything better for the turbo lol I just found that on google and cut it out.

EDIT: I found another turbo vector, but I don't think it is available for free use.

I think take the first one and keep the inner shadow but ditch the black background and the bevel look to everything. This design could also be easily transferred to a two color only design for decals, embroidery, etc. I'm just not a fan of the bevel look for a professional logo. I always take a look at other big time company logos to get ideas and you never really see that much bevel. The only concern about the tach is that every other performance company uses a tach in their logo but it works so I don't know.

So far this is my favorite. The outside the box attempts are cool but they are hard to duplicate/too complicated and not easy to recognize.

This is quite nice. I would like a little bit more detail by the gauge ... it is a little empty but I really like how the first letters come together.

I prefer to stick to the same font but I am open to seeing what you have in mind. As for the name, I wanted to leave this open ended. Possibilities are:

Stratified
Stratified Auto
Stratified Automotive Controls

etc.

I really like the top 2. If only there was a design logo or element that would flow well with these. Tach, turbo ... something performance inspired.

What about a gradient from blue up to red (like on an OG tach,) both in the arc and in the S-----D graphic?

I like this one the most. I'm going to make some suggestions:

- Let's go from blue to red instead of red to blue. Red near redline so on the right.
- The tach, I'm thinking about making the line go from thin to thick like an old school volume control.

I also like the automotive controls at the bottom but without the turbo in there.

To all you putting Tachs on the designs you may want to have a redline section in there at the top of the tach and maybe the needle in the redline looking all powerful n shit. Cause who wants to run at 3000RPM when you can be at redline. Boom!

Hopefully I understood you correctly... even if I didn't it did turn out quite badass looking.

Hmm... I could, but I'd need Lex's permission first as these are official submissions for this contest and if either of my designs win the rights belong to Lex & Stratified. Even if they don't win I'd still like to get Lex's blessing before doing something like that but it wouldn't be a problem at all to create one.

Something bugs me about the purple and pink in the middle of Stratified. Perhaps a solid color is best.

Maybe the S and the D can be red and "tratifie" Blue

I was also thinking make the entire Stratified in blue and the tach in blue up to the point it becomes vertical lines and just have those as red (like a redline marker) on the one below. Just some things to try.

I really like the stretched, artistic representation of the tach in these...doesn't look like a copy of a perfectly round tack like so many other automotive companies use. This one is win in my book so far with the alterations lex has mentioned.

+1 on the gradient only being in the tach.

Here is what I have so far. I tried to go with the tach scheme since that seems to be the general likings.

I like these a lot. I think I am definitely leaning to not have gradients on the text itself and just have the gradients (if any) on just the art.

Im not a huge fan on gradients on main logos but figured I would throw out options. Let me know if there are any main elements that you are not to excited about. On a side note, I changed up some of the gradients to solid colors or different gradients. Here are the results.

I may be getting carried away with options. LOL

As these are getting better and better and as we are getting close to the contest deadline, I will withdraw more and more from making comments as these are very much on the right track and I will let you refine it as you see fit. You're the artists!

I really like this one, but having the "St" in red makes it look like you are trying to cater to ST's, as in Ford ST's. If I was to vote on any, it would be this one though (minus having the first two letters a different color haha).

Any reason you're shying away from gradients in the text? Cost of printing? IMO, gradients just add a nicer look to the overall logo than solid colors, but of course cost has to come into play for printed items.

About to hit the sack and will clean this up tomorrow. This is not meant to belittle anyone. It's meant to be fun and no one is forced to participate. I am grateful to be part of a community where people are talented and share their talents if they wish. I do the same every day. The main prize here is not a free product or a little cash and I can see how if that's your only objective $50 is belittling. If that's the case you're missing the point.

@GenpuAxela; I'm going to be very clear with you here. No one is forcing you to do anything. You either participate or you don't. If you do, you're not above it or anyone else participating. You're also not going to criticize anyone's work or make snotty remarks. Period.

I've cleaned up a lot of this, thanks for all the submissions everyone, they are looking better and better! It's making it very hard to choose one design over another.

In regards to gradients - the logo will be printed on things like vinyl, shirts, etc. Gradients are a lot harder to get right and this is why I recommended keeping them out of the text.

One color option... there are tons of options but here's one. Also, what it looks like on a black background.
