Their kit comes with their own BPV and a wonky flange if I remember correctly. I prefer to have a brand name unit managing my pppppPPPPSSHHHH. Haha

That's a good idea. I think I'm going to throw in the towel on the L2A though. It was cool, it was fun but I have a feeling it'll fail hard on a road course during 20 minute stints.

I should have gone with a FMIC to begin with but I was stubborn and wanted something cool. I got it but it won't shine where I'll need it to.

I'm already in talks to make arrangements for a FMIC. Might be able to pull it off for Jersey. I'm gonna be stressed prepping this thing for 4 days from now. If I manage it, I'm gonna drink until I go blind on Saturday.

You with me Tokay444!? Haha

Not a total loss. Maybe a write up on its advantages vs. disadvantages for sticky.... If people never break new ground we will never get ahead!

If you're asking me to drink myself blind with you Dave, then that's something I can do, and have done.

In before doubleflusher-esque TR10 monster FMIC. At least I think it was TR10, I just remember that it is fucking huge.

Is there a writeup anywhere for your lta setup? It would be sweet to put a firm horsepower limit to your core. Sucks to see you moving on from the lta but keep pushing on with the good work.

Unfortunately I didn't do a write up on it. Its a very simple setup and most of it can be deduced from looking at the bumper and engine bay pictures I posted.

Are you looking to go L2A? I'll be selling mine and will be coming down to the NATOR meet this weekend

I see! But their piping are made for stock flange and for greddy-like flange, both. And flange is not wonky and quality is good and smooth. They even survived after Skoda hit me at the driver front part, broke my CAI and hit driver-side to-intercooler pipe, some dents - but no holes

Not too shabby!

BTW, Eugene. Any timelines on your BT build? Seems like you're just waiting for the final piece

With the help of friends, I sourced an intercooler setup for the NATOR meet this weekend. Its going in tonight. Fingers crossed that I can get the car tuned in time.

The fight is strong to get the car in peak performance. I'm gunning hard!

Standing around while you take your IM off doesn't count.

I would love to buy your intercooler but I doubt you have layaway. Plus I am extra lame and won't be at the meet this weekend even though it is in my backyard. Stupid family stuff in Ohio.......

Yes, I should update my thread soon.

Actually it took too damn long to find a proper turbo for my set-up. I was waiting for that EFR because I thought like it's a miracle. Damn, I decided 2 weeks ago that it is not a miracle but pain in the ass, simply cause no turbo anywhere available.

Since that we have bought VersaTuner and played with that and found we could do proper self-tunes as you guys do. Now it's fine with tune at least.

Then, On March 15th I was hit by another car (it was my bad) right when my insurance finished, and I had a plane in an hour... Like in funny story, but not so funny as it was me the hero of the story LOL So I had to pay that guy who hit me and to pay for my parts. Bumber, headlight, a lot of plastic, bumper brace, hood, ... Damn. It made me to wait and not to pay for the turbo.

Now the car is full of new parts like bumper, plastics, old bumper, a lot of screws, new flywheel bolts, new VVT, idle bearing, belt, new back and front crank seals, ......
And this one for the new turbo...

Yes it is too damn slow... But I switched the job in february also, so I had some furious weeks and had no time even to drive myc ar sometimes LOL

But I am with my car, it is with me, so i believe it will be finished before summer time

Cheers!

I haven't. It's on the stupid long list of things to do. Right now, I have it recircing back into the intake as opposed to venting like it was a few weeks back.

I may end up leaving it like this in the long run, I don't know yet. Generally, the only reason why the engine would suck so much oil through the VC breather is if the engine is hurt. My intake tract is squeaky clean but I do expect a light coating on the pipes over time.

Ah, so you're going with a GTX series or something a little more exotic? Celestspeed3 opted for a GTX3076 with a TiAL turbine side and the CPe mani like yours.

Glad your car didn't get any more damaged than it did. It would suck to see it bite the dust. I drive everyday with the slightest hint of fear that the party could be over because of a stupid accident.

Is that your daughter? She's cute

No, I don't offer layaway unfortunately. I will sell it for quite a bit under $500 though. I moved out of my parents house and into an apartment so space is scarce. We can discuss over PM if you'd like. Maybe a friend could bring it to you if hes at the NATOR meet.

Yes, GTX3071 with .63 a/r. Would be really interesting to see how such a small Tial will flow up top.
Thank for the heads up, I really understand your point on party is over, but no way any metal damage could get me away from deeping my dirty fingers under its hood I really like the process and like what it gets to even more than the process itself.
Yes, that's my daughter, she verifies every package I get that pistons do have right bore, rods do have right pin size, and manifold does have correct flanges LOL

Epic ressurection!

My job has been kicking my ass as of late so updates have fallen by the way side.

At any rate. The car is scheduled to be dyno tuned on Thursday May 24th. Stay tuned for win/fail.

Ugh. So much fail at the dyno, its not even funny. I'll gather my thoughts, sift through a myriad of datalogs and will post about it likely tomorrow sometime. I have tons of work to do at the moment.

Just set a proper MAF calibration and fire it up. After that, you tune it just like any other setup. It's that easy.

On my way to seeing off the NATOR NY guys in Burlington, I decided to give the car a nice rip on the QEW. Hopped on the onramp, 3rd gear WOT, shift to 4th and the car is pulling like a mother father. I had a massive smile on my face.

Popped it in 6th and cruised for about 5 mins at 120km/h. Got antsy for round 2 WOT pull so I dropped it to 3rd again and floored the throttle.... no go. The car was NA slow and made a grinding noise as the turbo tried spooling. Look at the AP, couldn't even boost 1PSI. Look out the rearview... smoke screen like something out of a movie.

Got off at Hurontario and pulled over on the onramp. At idle, the smoke screen was fucking massive. The amount that was coming out of the exhaust would be better than any smoke machine at a wedding.

Limped the car to a nearby daycare parking lot and let the engine idle for a bit. Vacuum was perfect and the engine purred like nothing was amiss. Looked under the car; perfectly clean. Checked oil; clean and full.

At this point, I decided to deal with the issue after getting some breakfast so I went to a nearby mom and pop restaurant and ate by myself contemplating what happened. Upon my return, I pulled off the intake and wiggled the turbo shaft. It had about 3-5mm of play in every direction. The compressor wheel also hit the housing and is pretty damaged.

My GT3071R died.

I'll start a new thread with pictures of the turbo once I get it out and source a replacement. Chances are it'll be another GT3071R or GTX3071.

kritz. This is why I didn't make it yesterday morning. I asked the guys to keep it on the down low until I figured out what's wrong. My apologies for bailing.

Can't forget the flatbed shot! Ha.

Damn it! Sorry to hear, well it was great to see you at the meet on Sunday anyway. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us! How many km on the turbo? I wonder if that exhaust leak had anything to do with the fail.

Yeah. I wonder that as well though I wouldn't know how to explain it.

The turbo had about 30K KMs on it.

Hay Dave, sad to hear that!
Did you just use oil lines from the BB kit? Did you use any kind of oild restrictors?

That's why I was saying here in Russia Garretts go bad very fast - 10-15K km - and bye-bye. Every (really every) garrett here died in that way - huge shaft play, massive oil leak and burnt ball bearing inside. We either get another cartridge (for about 1000$, f@ck) or convert it to journal bearing for nearly the same price (600-700$) so it lasts works much longer and become repairable, though spool is not so nasty.

I hope you figure it out and do all the tricks to avoid the same fail in the future!

Shitty on the turbo.

Are you single scroll hot side? Did you ever get any wot surge? Or throttle lift surge?

That's why I was saying here in Russia Garretts go bad very fast - 10-15K km - and bye-bye. Every (really every) garrett here died in that way - huge shaft play, massive oil leak and burnt ball bearing inside. We either get another cartridge (for about 1000$, f@ck) or convert it to journal bearing for nearly the same price (600-700$) so it lasts works much longer and become repairable, though spool is not so nasty.

I hope you figure it out and do all the tricks to avoid the same fail in the future!
Jackis, the oil OEM oil line made to work with the ATP turbos does not need a restrictor. If you're using your own custom lines, the ball bearing garretts absolutely need a restrictor, something like .055 IIRC. I have well more than 20k on my gtx right now with no issues.

I used the ATP kit which reused the OEM oil lines. Really want to go with a journal bearing turbo in case this happens again but it's too much $$$ at the moment to change directions.

Shit. At first I thought it was the motor but as soon as I had some time to gather myself, I realized it couldn't be since the motor idled like it was brand new. Vacuum was also up to snuff.

I'm trying to source a mildly used GT3071R locally. It has under 3K KMs use on it and is at a good price. If it doesn't pan out, I'll grab me a brand new GTX3071.

Single scroll ATP. I did notice some WOT surge a while back to the point that the turbo didn't want to boost to 20PSI before 4K without complaining (mild "ch ch ch" on spoolup). Telltale sign of future fail?

Part number 1 has arrived.
