(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score This walkthrough is designed to provide you with full understanding of what each and every table in ATR does. This is not a tuning guide. It is simply a detailed explanation on how the various tables in ATR work. It is intended for people who need better help understanding the ATR program and how the mazdaspeed ECU works. I hope this walkthrough can help you noobz understand what really happens when you edit the numerous tables before you find out you messed up! The ATR help file should still be read first. This is my way of giving back to the community. If i made any mistakes, errors, etc... Please let me know and i will update the documents. You can see when i have made updates by the "Updated Last:" date in the document. I will also make note of what those updates are in this thread. I hope this helps some people. Please download the document for your appropriate model/year. The documents are generally the same with the exception of adjustments made for your specifc model/years changes.

Definitely. I was reading over one of them and it is really well written and thought out. It must've taken ms3blackmica a ton of time to write those up and is really appreciated. I'll put links to all of them in the first section of the compilation thread. Thanks very much for taking the time to do this ms3blackmica.

| Not Ranked : 0 score ms3blackmica Thank for the walktrough. One question, now that I understand what the boost comp tables are use for. I recently started to make my own map using a stage 1 HKS OTS map as a baselin, I noticed that for Boost Comp: 5th-6th gear table the value is .95 from 2000 rpm up to 7000 rpm. My question will be is there a reason it should be this way or should I make them 1's as every other comp table. Please forgive my noob question, I hope you can shed some light upon me. thank

It is best practice to tune your ignition timing tables using data recorded from 4th gear pulls. 4th (in a 6 speed car) is the most practical gear to use as it will see high calculated load and give you great boosting characteristics, not to mention 5th gear pulls are very unreasonable and puts way too much load on the engine. 4th gear pulls give you the best balance tuning for WOT. It gives you the best perspective for timing as well WGDC's. When you go WOT in 5th or 6th, you will see much higher calculated load. Since 5th and 6th gears are slower accelerating gears, the turbo can keep up much better with slower acceleration of engine speed. Higher calculated loads generally will require you to have to run less timing. So in other words, the timing values that you have tuned in from 4th gear logs, may actually cause some knock, even though no knock was seen in 4th gear. Since there is technically no timing compensations per gear basis, the boost compensation tables can combat this. With this being said, you can take an example...Lets say your boost targets are 20 PSI. if 5th and 6th gear have a boost compensation of 0.95 (95%) then the ECU will target 19 PSI which is the result of multiplying 20 X 0.95. This effectively will reduce the calculated load seen in 5th gear to a value closer to the values seen in 4th. As you already know, OTS maps are designed to operate safely so that any average user can flash it, and be on his way..safely. This 5th-6th gear compensation is essentially a safety factor. Now to "really" answer you question. I personally have 5th-6th gear compensations set to 1.00. I have no issues with my car knocking in 5th or 6th. So whats my answer? Test it out! Thats what ATR is for!

Just updated the documents. Realized that i forgot two descriptions in one of the knock tables and one of the load tables. All better now |
